Big deal. But whilst the fee is inflated, they've probably got the best Young British talent and will likely have him for 10 years. The fee is inflated, but the tv money next year will add more inflation to the fees in this league. To be honest, I think City are missing a Sterling like player.
Now, where are they gonna spend that money? Benteke time? Centre back? Keeper?

Hopefully Sterling can do well at City, he's English and decent all the best to him. He's also joined a big team.

Oh what could have been. Have you signed anyone good since?
Downing is getting a 5 year deal at Boro on the same wages he's on at our place with no subsidising from us. He's 31 in 10 days and on at least 60k, probably more.

Holt is pretty much the only one who did well over a long period of time
Mirror reporting we're interested in Dwight Gayle. Now that's one I'd be a fan of, think he's a lovely player

Seeing a fair few reports that Schneiderlin had his medical tonight at Carrington straight after Schweinsteiger and will be on the plane tomorrow to the U.S. as a Utd player.

I do not believe Schneiderlin could possibly have turned up for a medical without getting snapped, would be happy if it's true but can't see it, without Schweinsteiger I wouldn't have been overly happy with him to be fair.

Well they did create the medical centre within Carrington so that they could do them without the press interfering.
Though I have seen leaked pics of the samples taken from Schneiderlin, literally taking the pîss.

Utd have made a very strong start to the window - a striker to replace RVP/Falcao is desperately needed and should be next on the shopping list.
Also need a resolution to the De Gea saga - whether that be him staying or going.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Looks like being a good week for United fans - Depay begins training, Darmian confirmed, Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin signing today/tomorrow, Ramos still in the pipeline and RVP leaving. If they keep de Gea, regardless of Ramos, I think it's a 3-way race for the title.
Conversely, what a poor week for City fans. All major transfer links gone quiet apart from the atrocious £49m signing of the World's Most Spoilt FootballerTM. No defence, shoddy midfield, astonishing attack. They've been done a kipper by Arsenal and United this summer.

So who plays in the midfield and attacking trios for Utd now?
Assuming its like this, who would you guys pick?
3 of Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Carrick, Herrera, Fellaini
3 of Rooney, Depay, Mata, Di Maria, Young

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Actually looking at the deal, Liverpool haven't done that great. Basically it's 20% of £44m, so Liverpool are getting about £35m up front & then will no doubt just put £30m of it on benteke, who isn't world class at all. Although sterling isn't that great yet, he has the potential & they've got him for the next 10 years so, I'm actually siding with City having got the better side of the draw.
United have done well, think they know bastian is still a ? in terms of playing week in week out & the no winter break will be a shock for him, so having Morgan signed is very good long term option. Still not convinced on the defence, even if Ramos is signed. Also, if Rooney gets injured, still don't see the goal threat on a regular basis, they need another striker. Plus, it's inevitable de gea is leaving now iker has left.

Hererra and schneiderlin with carrick and schweinsteiger being rotated to keep both fresh
Not really fussed about Fellaini tbh, he proved last season he was best further up behind the striker and i hated watching United play that brand of football of hoofing up to him

That my ? The deal is £44m + adds on over the next few years, so surely it's 20% of £44m. If that's the case, Liverpool would only get £35m up front now, as QPR would take about £8m+ or so.

Raheem Sterling is expected to have his Manchester City medical today after a £49m fee was agreed
Whereas
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11669/9893697/liverpool-sign-roberto-firmino-from-hoffenheim
Liverpool will pay £21.3m now, but the fee could eventually rise to £28m
In the article, they would have said £44mill raising to £49mill

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
How much cash do you think Liverpool still have to spend this summer?
Were the purchases already made eating into the Sterling sale, pre-empting the inevitable? Or will they have another £50 now to spend?
For me in Firmino they've already got a better replacement for half the price.

I couldn't put a figure on their budget but I would guess the Firmino money almost definitely came out of the potential Sterling pot.

Manchester City will pay Liverpool a fee of £44m, plus up to £5m in add-ons over the course of the deal, but these are not guaranteed.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
£10m means nothing to United. If anything they haven't actually signed a long term replacement for Carrick. Bastian is probably a two/three season man, who might not even succeed & Schneiderlin is more of a break up play protector, rather than a creative offensive passer like Carrick.
I'd stay well clear of Gervinho, proven he's incapable in this league, he needs space & ageing defenders to make him look good, like Serie A provided him with. Destro is a talent, but again, question marks over his desire & attitude.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
United don't need a replacement for Carrick. Schneiderlin sits ahead of the defence and breaks up play, Schweinsteiger creates opportunities, and Herrera is the box to box man. With Mata and Depay joining Schweinsteiger, they have no need for Carrick to be sat 90 yards from goal passing sideways to Darmian and Rojo.

so you'd sell carrick, who's the best passer at the club & instead play schneiderlin (who let's not forget has come from soton & might not make the step up, like the liverpool signings) & schweinsteiger, who has no experience in this league & has just come off quite a injury hampered season & who will find the no winter break quite a shock to the system. madness.

I rated Gervinho at Arsenal, thought he was underutilised and scapegoated due to looks and style. I remember him absolutely tearing up West Brom towards the end of his spell.
Also, Carrick is probably still a better player than both those new signings

United also need a quality squad. He's a better centre back than some of theirs when its a game against a bottom 10 side as well. If only the 5 in midfield vogue had come in earlier we'd never have had the Gerrard/Lampard conundrum cos Carrick would have made that midfield tick

Schneiderlin is the natural Makelele in that side, with Schwein ticking the game over and Herrera doing the leg work. It's been well documented that Schwein's style doesn't fit alongside Alonso at Bayern, and Carrick is a destitute man's Alonso. Schneiderlin-Schwein-Herrera is what we'll see next season for most games. And it's why United should sell Carrick, while he has some value and teams are desperate to sign him. £10m might not be much, but when you've shelled out £80, FFP needs to be considered.

Yes, I do rate players that other teams sign, Cech & Wijnaldum for example are great buys. I just don't get carried away or cream my pants over signings, whereby there are clear ?, especially the fact Schneiderlin is hardly world class & might struggle to make the step up from Southampton, like many others have done so since leaving the south coast.
Dolphin Ziggler wrote:Also, Carrick is probably still a better player than both those new signings
Thankyou, DZ. Carrick is a better & proven player in this league, over these two new signings. I think Bastian will struggle & that's my opinion, I'm allowed it & judging that on the fact he is in decline & is now stepping up to a more demanding & more physical league.
@Azzy, you're saying Carrick was not the best passer at the club?

These deals look to me like they are worried about Carricks fitness.

@LiamB
You think Schweinsteiger will struggle as he has no experience in this league even though he's been playing in the German league which is most likened to the PL and has proved himself time and again at international level aswell? Yet you think Wijnaldum will do well even though he is coming from the dutch league?
@Azzy why would United want to sell Carrick? Even if they play the 3 newer signings they need strength in depth. They will be selling other less needed players anyway as well as van Persie for starters.

I don't really understand where this Schweinstiger will struggle to adapt to the prem. The guy is a machine, the German captain and was named in the team of the year at the world cup. The guy is only 30, which is nothing really. It'll be a god send for Carrick as he can finally be used as Scholes was towards the end of his career, as someone to come on in the last 20-25 mins and sit deep and keep possession.
It'll be:
Schneiderlin
Herrera Schweinstiger
I'm over the moon with the signings so far. Would prefer otamendi over ramos who is cheaper and I think just as good, whilst being more of a vidic type defender which is what we lack. As for a striker, its a tough one. Whoever we sign will no doubt be a no.2, and with depay also being able to play st and rumblings januzaj is being converted into forward, im not sure whether we'll fork out 30m for someone to be no.2. I think personally we should go for someone who offers more of a physical presence, so possibly benteke but his price is ridiculous.

1) Carrick was hands down the best passer at the club. He was an integral part to our side because of his passing. Look at our win % when he played and when he didn't. Rooney (not a great passer contrary to belief) and Mata are different players to Carrick. Every successful team has someone in midfield who can dicatate possession which in without, would not give Mata and others as much opportunity to provide assists.
2) Why sell arguably our best player last year aside from De Gea? He's still an integral part of the team but the burden on his can be eased with the signings we've made and he can now be used as Scholes and Giggs were at the back end of their careers.
3) Man Utd don't need money. We still have over 150m to spend still this transfer window, make the most money out of all PL sides and rank often top of all world clubs for money made, as evidenced in the low fee's RVP and Nani have gone for.

Exactly Liam - Carrick is the best passer at the club as I said, it's been in his DNA his whole life. Rooney just come deep & does that long cross field pass, that works 2 out of 5 times & people cream their pants for some reason. I'm also sure Ent has been on here stating Mata's passing over the top last season was just awful, reason he was switched from the 10 role, to playing out wide on the right of a three.
Guest- Guest
Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Herrera is a much better passed also than Mata and Rooney. Rooney needs to be played now where he had his best season, around 09/10 and play almost as a poacher. With the midfield we now have, he should be the leading man and hopefully he can get back to scoring 15+.
