rooney is a terrible passer, the only pass he has at all is the long cross field ball. he does do that well though

I'm saying United should sell Carrick while he still has some value. Rather than let him age, spend all his time on the treatment table and fade into obscurity. Let another team take the risk and use the money on a new striker.
What a terrible idea, selling who is still our best midfielder and best passer of a ball by far for no reason other than his age.

If Michael Carrick had to play with any CM that was even average he'd be shown up for the mediocre player he is.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
2014/15 season, as per OPTA
Pass completion % = Carrick 89.6%, Mata 89.5%, Herrera 89.2%, Rooney 84.7%
Long balls played per game = Carrick 5.9, Mata 3.2, Herrera 3.0, Rooney 5.2
Assists = Carrick 2, Mata 4, Herrera 4, Rooney 5
MOTM = Carrick 0, Mata 2, Herrera 4, Rooney 1
We could debate Carrick's merits all day, but he had a poor season last season and has just been usurped by Germany's captain and the best DM bar Matic in Europe.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
you do realise carrick missed large parts of the season through injury? and even then when he played he was our best player.
not to mention that the assist stat has nothing to do with him, all those players mentioned play much further up than him. im guessing none of you have been really watching carrick in recent seasons. he's been superb for us, without ever really doing the eye catching stuff. you really get to appreciate carrick when you go the games, you see a lot more than on the tv cameras

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
The standard i'll stats to back up a frivolous and factually incorrect statement, those numbers mean absolutely nothing as you are comparing a deep lying midfielder with two attacking midfielders and a striker so yes they would get more assists and MOTM awards. We came fourth last season for one simple reason and that is because Carrick played less than half of our games, when he was in the side we waltzed it against Tottenham, Liverpool and City, that is how important a player he is to us.
He also has not be usurped by Schweinsteiger at all and how can such an opinion be formed before the season has even been started.

Well, that's a new tactic. Highlighting that Carrick has the highest pass completion ratio to prove that he cannot in fact, pass?

If people don't rate Carrick, they don't deserve to watch football.
Harrier has hit the nail on the head really. Just look at the 3 games he mentioned, he controlled the game.

United had a 72% win ratio when Carrick was in the side last season.
Impressive, but no where near the 81.5% win ratio that was mustered when Welbeck was in the side in 2012/2013!

Getting back to actual transfers, reports of City now turning their attention towards Kevin De Bruyne for around £40m.

Only people who dont watch the ball can appreciate Welbeck.
That group includes Welbeck oddly enough.

Oh good its done. Chuffed with that. He'll get sick of not being Wenger's choice soon and leave, think Arsenal are being pretty dirty to him really. They know hes a gooner so knew he wouldnt turn down a contract. But equally they are just trying to get more money for him and in case he suddenly gets worth their time they will keep him.

I think it's more for when Debuchy gets turfed out considering he's approaching 30 this month so then still have Jenks & Bellerin. Honestly was hoping Debuchy would go off to Palace to join his mate Cabaye.

I've heard it all nowHammersmith harrier wrote:We came fourth last season for one simple reason and that is because Carrick played less than half of our games
- Woeful defence requiring Blackett and McNair to play actual first team games
- Strikers who didn't score nearly enough goals
- A £60m signing who played like he cost £8m
- A manager who persisted with a formation and system that neither suited the players at his disposal nor in fact worked
- Three other teams being significantly better than you
Yet Carrick being injured is the one simple reason for finished fourth?

Not that fussed with cavani.
Think we could get a lout out of di Maria if played centrally.
On a long deal and still a good age of he doesn't perform this season we could still get a good fee for him.

I've heard a lot of people saying not to go for Cavani. Looking at his goal stats though, he scores a goal every 1.5 games (based on the last 5 years). Seems pretty good to me.

One of those things I guess. Everyone always said Ribery was great but I never saw him actually do anything in a big game. Obviously its one opinion but Cavanis always seemed sluggish when I've seen him. Id rather spend that cash on Benteke to be honest.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
In fairness, I've only watched him in CL games for PSG where Zlatan is obviously the main man.. but just never been that impressed for someone who cost 50 odd million
Are those stats skewed from his time in Serie A though?

I took the stats from the last five years so it includes 3 years at Napoli and 2 at PSG and I also included internationals.
Broken down -
Napoli - Games 138 Goals 104 = Goal every 1.3 games
PSG - Games 96 Goals 56 = Goal every 1.7 games
Uruguay - Games 60 Goals 26 = Goal every 2.3 games
Average actually rounds up to 1.6 but anyway.

Whilst he was at Napoli there was only Ronaldo and Messi that was getting a better goal per game average in the main European leagues.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
He's not world class, but a good option, in terms of what's available. Playing second fiddle to Suarez internationally & Zlatan at club level, shows he's just below that elite level. Definitely better than Benteke though.

If I were a PL side, Id rather spend 30m on a guy who's 1 in 2 in the PL rather than 50m on a guy who's never played in the PL and is 1 in 1.6 in weaker leagues for far stronger teams.
That's just me though.

Sounds like Roma aren't getting Dzeko any time soon and as such means a deal for Destro has a big delay. As such reports suggest we're after Chicharito.

Now Roma have pulled out of the Dzeko deal, Mitrovic is now delaying signing for us, because his first choice is Roma & playing Champions League football. Fair enough he wants to play at that level, I guess we will just fall back to Charlie Austin, if the Serbian ends up in Italy.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Cavani would be an awful signing, our strikers last season lacked pace the pace to make an impact and he would not resolve that problem, would be a signing for the sake of signing a big name.
Rafael's agent seems to be whoring him out to any Italian team that will take notice, Roma being the preference but Fiortentina also being a dream.

this pardew/palace thing is working great, obviously they worked well with each other at NUFC + palace also taking advantage of the fact these two are desperate for first team action before the euro's. i think in the short term things will look rosy, but after euro 2016, im sure cabaye & remy (if he goes) will want out of palace. also, im sure the owners have thrown ridiculous money at cabaye and will have to for remy, might cause disruption in the dressing room.
fair play to pardew though, you can't argue he's not taking palace to the next level

Remy and Cabaye would be great for Palace. You're right though, I'd assume the money might be problematic. Would probably change their whole wage structure. That said, Palace generally seems pretty well run. Does Pardew have a rep for spending big on wages? You'd think if he can work with Ashley he would understand the need to work within financial constraints.
As for Remy and Cabaye moving straight after the Euro's - maybe, though both have been at bigger clubs and not played, so if playing at Palace can get them back into the France squad, they may be happy to stay. I don't think clubs can plan for that anyway.
