The marketing team are really keen to portray this as a heroic return and not United shelling out a world record fee to resign a player they let walk because they preferred a RB in CM.
Can't imagine why.

Yes, I can imagine this sort of utter sp*nkbubble d!cktw*ttery for a returning Ronaldo but for a kid they didn't want?GSC wrote:The marketing team are really keen to portray this as a heroic return and not United shelling out a world record fee to resign a player they let walk because they preferred a RB in CM.

Do me, yourselves and the world a favour by shutting up about the fact you've paid over 100 times what you let him go for.

Speaking of utter sp*nkbubble d!cktw*ttery, Stones has been registered in City's CL squad apparently.

Good for England, probably, but it doesn't scream of solving City's problems.
It's best for Everton. Get it done, get a shake on with their own work

All I know is he left uni without ever having had a job, got his first one at Man United. He's 6"5, handsome as hell and gets to play at Old Trafford yearly, whilst meeting all the players regularly.
But he's a Spurs fan, so he doesn't have everything

Obviously, seeing as he's been omitted from the CL squad, along with Bony & Nasri. Kompany is injury prone though, Demichelis has been released, so they only have Kompany, Stones, Otamendi & the awful Denayer

Everton have agreed a £12 million fee for Ashley Williams.
That's the Stones replacement sorted then. At least he's more no nonsense.
I can't help but feel Koeman isn't really working with much more than he already was at Southampton...

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
Stones has potential to be world class so in that sense disappointed to see him go, but £47.5m just too good to turn down.
Williams for £12m is a good replacement. Gives us a better defender now, rather than one who will develop further, which is what we need.
I think Koeman is struggling to attract the players he is targeting. Whilst the resources are there, and he seems to be looking at higher quality players (Witsel, Koulibaly to name 2) it must be hard to sell the club to players of that level. We need to accept it needs to be done is smaller steps and maybe target players at a level down. Although it would be lovely to see one marquee signing come in.

Not selling your big name players would be a way to sell the club to other big names.

Its not a summer where having a slightly richer owner really matters. Williams is fine, but he isnt someone they couldnt have signed last year before the takeover.

I don't think Ashley Williams for 12m is a good signing at all. 32, overhyped coming off a tournament where he was probably the weakest of the 3 CBs in reality.
Palace back for Benteke.

If Liverpool manage to get £30 million for Benteke, whilst not playing him once in preseason and being quite open they don't want him, that'd be great. Basically paid £2 million to have him for a season, which isn't too bad, particularly after that spectacular goal against United.

I have a special place reserved in my heart for Tekkers because of that goal. Shame that wherever he goes, he's always going to look like an infinitely better player than he did for us.Crimey wrote:GSC wrote:Palace back for Benteke.

Liverpool got him on a release clause I guess. Think he'll be a very good signing for Palace, if they can keep Bolasie.

No actual contractual clause and a £30 million one wouldn't make any sense considering last year he was bought for £32.5 million and he hasn't signed a new contract.
Just sticking to their guns and not selling until the price is met. We're under very little pressure to sell. He's on big wages, but the major transfers of the summer are already done and if we have to sit on Benteke so be it.

Very hard to keep your best players when they want to leave, a CL club comes in and they offer you £47.5m for them.
I'm happy with Williams as a replacement. Koulibaly would have been great but out of our league TBH.
We struggled with the basics of defending and he brings that. We were also too soft. He brings that. And we lacked leadership and he brings that. That he is 31 isn't great but compared to some of the prices being paid, he is "only" costing £12m.
Also Lamine Kone having a medical according to Sky.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
Bolasie sure he's decent not 30m decent but Kone for £18m is a waste surely better CB's available for less can't imagine Van Dijk would cost much more.
Eliaquim Mangala heading to Valencia apparently to free up Mustafi to leave.

Not sure about Bolasie though. Not consistent enough for the supposed price tag.

They did, still too much! If can recoup most of that money, think we've done well. He's a decent striker, he's not £30 million worth.

The biggest difference to your defence will be Koeman; Martinez could get a team playing decent football but he couldn't organise a defence to save his life.

Not surprised there's no major uproar regarding Palace potentially signing a player for £30m which in perspective to their turnover would amount to the same as Man Utd spending £180m on Pogba.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
They are selling a player for 25m on the same day.
They also aren't spending 30m on a player they let walk a few years ago.
Aside from that it's disgrace.

Because this 'percentage of turnover' has only started being brought up this season by United fans trying to justify spending so much on Pogba.

This cost/turnover correlation is a load of old crap, we overspent on buying back Pogba but if he performs nobody will remember or care.
