The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Cari wrote:Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

What about electrolysis then luckless? Huh, never thought of that did ya? Or water that’s produced as waste product from fuel cell batteries.
I am aware that would account for about 1 billionth of a percent of the total water in the world but still, this is an internet discussion forum, pedantry is our lifeblood…

Morning all
Coincidence or what?
After yesterday's convo I have just looked at my uni email and received this
PLEASE TAKE CARE
WHEN WALKING HOME
FROM A NIGHT OUT
Police are warning women to take extra care when walking
home from nights out following a number of assaults in
East XXX.
Police are advising women to:
§ WALK HOME WITH FRIENDS AFTER A NIGHT OUT
§ TAKE LICENSED TAXIS RATHER THAN WALK HOME
§ TELL HOUSEMATES WHAT TIME YOU WILL BE HOME
Assaults took place in ... Road on 29 May and 2 June,
and ... Crescent, ..., on 6 June.
Police are carrying out high visibility patrols in both areas and
are asking for information about the incidents.

That's not true, Mickado. I've thought of face electrolysis. I hate having to shave but I can't grow decent facial hair. Face electrolysis would be quite good.

From RTÉ news
Australia may cull camels to reduce emissions
Australia is considering awarding carbon credits for killing feral camels as a way to tackle climate change.
...
Considered a pest due to the damage they do to vegetation, a camel produces, on average, a methane equivalent to one tonne of carbon dioxide a year. That makes them collectively one of Australia's major emitters of greenhouse gases [there are 1.2million of them].
...
'We're a nation of innovators and we find innovative solutions to our challenges - this is just a classic example,' Northwest Carbon managing director Tim Moore told Australian Associated Press.

I heard years ago that Cattle is the biggest producer of threatening gas to the Ozone layer.
And also, the Rain forests arent the biggest producers of Oxygen - its Algae.

Methane is a more potent greenhouse gas than CO2 alright. I heard there is a scientific initiative to isolate the gene in kangaroos which causes them not to produce methane and somehow engineer it into the DNA of cattle. It's a pretty clever plan! And who knew a kangaroos fart doesnt stink!

Kangaroos can't walk (or hop) backwards, apparently. Nor can emus. I remember Adam Gilchrist making a point about that and Australians never taking a backward step.

Kangaroos are good barbecued, emu is good casseroled (it's pretty similar to ostrich, quelle surprise). And crocodile tastes like chicken.

I've heard that there's loads more protein in a locust than there is in a steak. They're meant to be quite nice when cooked, if you can get over the fact you're eating an insect.

What about this from the BBC weather man last night:

Thank you, why not give us five more minutes of sport on the next half hour BBC!

Puma - to answer your question in my view, slut is just a derogatory/insulting term given specifically to women. Its meaning doesn't matter anymore. It's still insulting/abusive.
Glas - I'm no longer the barmaid/landlady on here.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It used to describe a certain sort (or even class) of woman - 'no better than she should be' - but I worry that to young (and some not so young) women, it has come to be the default dress code for a night out. Sure, anyone of either gender should be able to dress as they please, but it seems to me that, in this case, common sense has been left behind. And self respect. Or am I stuck in a time warp? different times, different attitudes?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Thank you Puma. I thought that feminist did a lot of harm to the feminist cause by seeking to shoe horn society into a feminist utopia.
You can wear what you want
Men can get drunk and not be raped, why not women
Women have the right to behave as they like but not get raped
All of this still ignores the major issue, the vast majority of allegations arise when the protagonists know each other and are drunk. You are not going to improve matters if you ignore this simple fact.
You can wear what you want
fine, don't get drunk
Men can get drunk and not be raped, why not women
fine, get drunk, but take sensible precautions
Women have the right to behave as they like but not get raped
since when did a right ever absolve you from applying basic common sense?
All of this still ignores the major issue, the vast majority of allegations arise when the protagonists know each other and are drunk. You are not going to improve matters if you ignore this simple fact.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Puma, I have three sisters and none of them ever dressed sluttishly. They might have done strange things with their hair and worn fake tan - which all men can spot but women must think they can't - but that's it. Then again, they're in their late twenties and early thirties now, so maybe it's just the done thing for younger women now to go out wearing very little.

It's true. We've got to move beyond this stupid prejudice. 9 times out of 10, the perpetrator is already known to the victim and most victims are wearing jeans. This is just societies way of passing judgement on young women. They have a right to wear whatever the hell they want and avoid all harassment.

It's not a necessity anymore. On old 606 someone needed to open a thread and that person also moderated it (along with any reported posts). Now, you (or anyone else) can just open it and it's moderated by Kiwi/Dreamer. I'll just be popping in now and again.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Looked up the term slut on urban dictionary (better than the real dictionary!) and the first definition that came up was: "a woman with the morals of a man".I won't link it because there is some rather colourful language on that page, but I think that's a very interesting and amusing definition of a slut.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I always thought a "bike" slept with everyone in town, while a "slut" slept with everyone in town, except you. :run2:

But whatever the theory, and however much men need educating, it is irresponsible to say to women do what you like, you have a right not to be raped. The responsible thing is to say, do whatever you like but be aware, whatever your rights, of the risks that you face. You will never take that risk away.
The statement she made was akin to the "marriage is Cuddle and all men are rapists" brand of feminism.
