The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub - Page 6 Empty The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub

Post by Guest Mon 13 Jun 2011, 1:32 pm

First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence

So pull up a chair....what'll it be? appletini

Hobo, if I was any more than 50% alive today I’d ask how to use that spoiler thing. But I’m a shell of a man, think this “mild hangover” can be upgraded to card carrying man flu, so I’ll just figure it out for myself another time…

Hughie - it's cat. Maybe it will look better in the flesh but that picture is (as Cari would say) GOPPIN'!

Every time I see that Leinster logo it looks like a stylised kiwi that's had its beak tied to its feet by some cruel sod ...

Mick, Spoilers are available under the "Others" drop down box just to the right of the fancy coloured text box.

Murray's problems are Psychological. A bit like Monty at Golf.

Untill he realizes just how good he is, he won't win. Don't get me wrong I would love for him to win a GS and I think he will, but he has the skill, determination and ability to have won one by now. What he lacks is the beleif.

Ok i concede too, Chris Hoy can join Stephen Hendry and John Higgins in the non Scottish choker camp, but following sport as long as I have it gets a little annoying when sportsmen, particularly Scots seem to buckle under preassure.

Very, very harsh indictment on Scottish sportsmen (and women) - let me chuck a few more examples at you to debunk your theory:
Peter Nicol - squash world champion and no.1 for umpty-tump years
Graham Obree - smashed one hour distance cycling record on a home-made bike
Alex Ferguson - whether you like the roundball game or not, his achievements speak for themselves
Ken Buchanan and Jim Watt from Boxing
Jackie Stewart - 3 times world champion
Willie Carson - champion jockey

And that's without googling Very Happy

Dreamer, do you know what happens to nice girls like you in Hughie's web, er, flat?

Depends how much you want to see Wimbledon I suppose.

Tennis is definitely one of those sports I can take or leave. Give them all loose stringed wooden bats say I and let's see something more subtle than just power from the base line being enough to win.

For those of you planning on going to Wimbledon - I'm very jealous! One year soon I'm going to go, tis like a mission for me.

I went in 1999 and watched Jelena Dokic randy thrash Martina Hingis randy 6-1 6-0 I really wanted tickets for the other show court as wanted to see Boris Becker play in his last ever Wimbledon tournament. I also got to the finals day that year when the womens singles was also played on the Sunday.

We are looking to change the rules regarding images - we have drafter notes on how to do it within the spoiler tag which is the only way we will allow it (We still want to keep v2 on the low visibility radar for work users).

We feel that by embedding the image in the spoiler tag, it allows people to make the choice as to whether the image is displayed or not.

Will post details later.

Grills. The man has a ridiculous name and is only a part timer, but you know the helicopter to pick you up is only a phone call away.

Mears is so anally retentive about it all, the first thing he would do is smash up your sat phone in the hope of creating a spark to light a fire. He would also bore you to death before you starved.

Perhaps I have thrown you off a bit her Asbo, I'm not saying we don't have good sportsmen. Just saying we have talented guys who tend to choke. Andy Murray, Colin Montgomery and Gavin Hastings.

I think Gavin Hastings missing that Kick in the 1991 semi final against England Scarred me for life.

Morning all

Them Leinster jerseys are particularly Poopie aren't they. I am so glad London Irish have gone with a plain, more traditional design for next season. Was only discussing it this morning with the wife on the way to work. All we need at the Madejski now is a few quality forwards to fill the fecking jerseys and I'll be a happy man!!! Erm

I did, It was a rude photo (not that rude don't worry) which I then deleted having thought better of it before I was modded. I thought the reaction would have been swifter.

Anyhoo, in other news, I have it on good authority that a Welsh team member (I cant tell you who it is, but the whisper is that he will be a bayonet shortly) has apparently just been in to Carluccios in Cardiff to ask for the number of a waitress who was working yesterday, only to be turned down. When your chips are down they are Flip down aren't they?

Finally managed to get on! So much for working from home, had to shoot to newport and now looks like I'm out the office all day! Oh well app form tonight should do the trick with some rugby to watch too!! So glad I hit the gym early this morning now, although I don't think my legs are.

For those who are asking who to be stuck in a jungle with I'd go either Annika Rice because you could follow her to the helicopter Wink or Indiana Jones so you could run with that theme tune going!!

Depends if they win the 3rd/4th play off. That was seen as a partial success by us in '87, especially as we beat the Aussies in the SH to get there.

Gatland will be in post for a year or two extra if they get to the semis.

Of course they do. How do you know they will be in turmoil then though? Do you think they will behave as the footballers did? I don't think so. They may lose a game they should otherwise win, but I cant see them throwing it all away. Who do they play after the All Blacks in the group? If they beat the AB's then next up have a fantastic chance against them.

Ray Mears, no question. Once you'd sourced food and built a fire, Ray Mears would tell you all sorts of genuinely useful and interesting stuff; Bear Brylls would be bouncing up and down and wanting to go bungee jumping or something. He'd be hard work.

Also, retro jerseys are the future, if that makes sense. How many years is it since, for example, the Wallabies played in gold jerseys without splodges of green all over them?

And as to the survival question - I'd rather be stuck with Ray Mears. Can't stand the other guy.

Is that on the assumption that NZ or France top the group? I can see France beating NZ in the group to top it, only to lose to them in the final (if it can work out that way)

In which case:

NZ v Aus

Aus win?

Doesn't matter either way. Its too close to the competition to allow hubris to spoil our chances. Don't want to tempt fate and all that (as you have have done).

do you not remember Fiji from the last RWC Stag? of course we'll be talking them up! I'm absolutely petrified about playing them. I don't even want to really contemplate Samoa, I don't think I could cope.

Some Welsh posters on the old 606 thought we should assume we'd lose to the Springboks and concentrate on the other games. Idiocy. We have three loseable games in our group, we can't afford to 'throw' any of them!

I do but that was the last World Cup dreamer. They won't have guys like Ratuvou, Delasau, Rauluni, Bai who were instrumental last time. They are leaving a back 3 of Caucau, Nalaga, Nacewa at home. They have a poor front row and the union were talking about pulling out of it.

Samoa are the challenge.

Afternoon all, One for the Wall.

Some downunder rugby news for the day:
*Graham Henry has hinted he may not retire post RWC (though if the ABs don't win it, the NZRU will have to make a change to placate the public)
*SBW will miss the match against the 'Canes due to injury. So no SBW vs Nonu match up this year Sad.
*The Crusaders will play any home playoff matches at Nelson's Trafalgar Park (upgraded capacity 18,000) unless they draw the Blues, in which cas they'll play in Wellington. In the unlikely event of a "home" final they'll play at Eden Park.

Just to note, Wales play Samoa in their second game, Fiji last. Samoa will be fresher for the Wales game.
