The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Dragons
That can't be right. The fourth-placed Welsh region would have gone in to the Amlin even if Leinster hadn't won the Heineken.
I could be - and probably am - wrong, though.
Notch, it's an easy mistake to make. We do type the same words.

As - somehow that doesn't surprise me! Got some cracking stories out of them on the Scarlets fans message boards from their trip there, really made me want to make an away trip next season.

I'm thinking of it more from the point of view that this year Connacht and Dragons have swapped competitions. Then again, so have Montpellier and Perpignan, so I admit my logic isn't clear.

I think if I go on an away trip, it would be too Aironi. I've heard their fans are a cracking bunch and let's face it, a weekend in North Italy sounds pretty good doesn't it?
Apparently Treviso was voted the best destination of last seasons away trips by most of the traveling Ulster fans. I just worry I might be too broke and busy for all that stuff.

Afternoon All.
Notch, I would really love to take in a rugby ground in Italy some day. would love that to be a HC game over a 6N's game for some reason.
Ideally would love to get to Bath and Montpellier next season, but can't see that being realistic.

Radge, read all about it - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rugby_union/12941136.stm
Smart move IMO. Increased capacity, closer to their fan base and lower costs apparently.

Love sacks. I knew the rumours about Lyons leaving us but as time went on I was hoping they turned out be untrue. Big thanks to Dai Llewod (David Lyons) though, he's been immense for us over the last 3 years.

Erm, not really As. I was hoping Lyons would stay another year to continue to help Morgan in developing his game, he's still got a lot to learn and Lyons is one of the best he could learn from. Still guess more starts for Morgan, I just worry about who we've got as a no 8 back up now!

Cheers lads - very kind of you - 2 of those on a hot day after 18 holes usually does it. Craic is good and looking forward to the RWC with the usual anticipation (blind of course)

Ah that probably makes you Welsh
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Afternoon Guby.
Dreamer, I am surprisingly relaxed about Lyons. He had a distinctly lukewarm season.
6 McCusker/Welch/Turnbull
8 Morgan/McCusker/Welch
7 Turbull/Edwards/Pugh
That's plenty with Shingler and Cudd as backup (and other rising Scarlet starlets).

What's the odds of getting compensation regarding the battering my credit rating has taken?!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
There are 44 European Rugby places. 22 (out of 24) Heineken Cup places are allocated to Unions, while 20 (out of 20) Amlin Cup places are allocated to Unions. However, 2 Amlin Cup clubs get promoted to the Heineken Cup (based on who won the Heineken Cup and the Amlin Cup in the previous season), which opens up 2 spots in the Amlin Cup. This year, they went to Bucharest Wolves and Valencia.

Cheers for the clarification Robbo
Surely this will happen every year from now on, unless a Scottish or Italian side wins the HC?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Only Steve Shingler has signed for LI as far as I'm aware, Aaron is staying put.
Glas - aye that's good cover but what about if/when Turnbull, McCusker and Morgan are away? We're stuck with Pugh and Edwards as our only proper back row players with Shingler as back up. Welch does not normally play in the back row. Add to that Pugh is often away with the 7's. So we could be facing the possibility of starting with Shingler, Edwards and Cudd, with Welch as back up. That's not good.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I assume if a Scottish team wins the Heineken Cup (or indeed the Amlin) the highest ranked ERC team not yet qualified for the Heineken Cup would qualify, and the invitational place would be available as normal.
If an Italian team won a European Trophy, I think they would give a Heineken Cup place to the winners of the Italian Super 10, unless there was a good reason not to (licences or facilities).
There will be 2 Invitational teams in the Amlin Cup every year until an Invitational team ends up winning it. The year after that, the team that won the Amlin will be in the Heineken Cup and there will be 1 Invitational team in the Amlin.

From the Scarlets site:
"Early bird discounts will now run for an extra week with the renewal period now extended until close of play 30th June.
In addition, as a warm welcome to new season ticket holders early bird discounts will be available for new-comers until July 13th."
I won't have to pay full price!

McCusker wont be in NZ Dreamer and neither will Morgan. As for the 6n, all three could be away, but we will have blooded some newby's by then. Look at Newton, Scott Williams, Laurence and Gardiner this year. Nobody had heard of them this time last year, yet they had a big role in our HC campaign. It'll be fine. To echo the old timer:
Creder/Believe.
