First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence

So pull up a chair....what'll it be? appletini

Phhoking Priests, Vicars, Judges, Rabbis and Mullahs.
Who are they to decide what we do with our lives?

Sorry, but they drive me mental.

Back to work tomorrow, been a weird day today. Can't remember the last time I was home on my own and must confess that it was a bit crabby and I didn't like it much, the house was far to quiet, not like normal at all.

Yeah but Pete... You just love the "madness" that comes with having 4 x girlies in yer house. Very few men could handle that. You do - with aplombe. And no end of care, attention and love. I think it's what's called being a REAL man. Everybody, who has had the pleasure to meet you and know you on here - knows that about you. Hug Ale

Howya Gibbo

I do love the madness, they drive me mental sometimes the kids, but make me cry with laughter more. I learn so much from them too, they keep me sane in what is an increasingly mad old world.

Connected again. I kinda misread Cymro's post about euthenasia (what happened next) in the wrong way initially; thinking it was a piece of dark humour.

But it made me recall a pub conversation from a few years back. A guy who used to frequent the local pubs was a 'born again Christian'. He was a big intimidating lump, and would often berate people for their lifestyles and that his religion was the answer to all ills. And this from guy who would only get going on this topic after at least 4 pints of Stella and a similar number of large JD & Coke chasers.

Prone, as he was to telling us how long we had to live under our 'hedonistic' lifestyles (he gave me 6 months about 5 years ago) he also implored us to read chapters of the bible to help us in our misguided ways. Stuff like..

"Ezekiel chapter 6!" and "Isaiah chapter 8!" "Read your Bible!"

My mate had had enough...

"I've read the Bible mate, and I hate to spoil the story, but he dies in the end."

Apologies to anyone who takes any religion seriously, but the guy deserved that. He was a complete pain, and barred from just about every local pub.

Hound, laughing

Evening all, I got home in time for the 2nd half of the Pratchett doco, powerful stuff whatever your opinion on the subject.

Reading back, is anyone here NOT job hunting at the minute? I had a nice wee chat with one of the managers at work this arvo. I'm in the slightly tricky position that she has enough budget and headcount to offer me half a full-time roll, but they haven't got sign off for the other half! So they're extending my current contract by 3 months (as the current one expires Friday) & she's covering the difference out of savings from the 3 senior analysts who resigned last week. So interesting times. I really enjoy my current role, but it might be worth looking at one of the other senior in-house vacancies ...

Actually now that I really think about it, I'm a massive fan of Youthanasia, probably the last decent album Megadeath realised, still had Marty Freedman on lead giving it loads, if anyone here has a taste for heavier music its worth gettin.

Morning all, feeling slightly delicate today. Was at a gig in town last night, my mates were playing, they were class, it was a top night all round but i wish it didn't happen on a Monday!

Still, it's another short week for me, off down to Cork again on Friday morning - another long weekend, can't beat it!

Anyone think Murray might win wimbledon this year? He looks in good form alright but my money would be on Nadal, Djocovic or the Fed Express.

“right lads, here’s the plan – I’ll meet you’s at the airport, we’ll get the train back to hammertown, get some cans, back to mine, then we watch Djokovic v Nadal from the Spanish open on the sky+”

Rodders, someone made the point that Andy Murray is comfortably the fourth best player in the world - in both directions. He's capable of beating the three above him, but not if they're playing at their best.

Yeah I think the bottom line is that he is the 4th best so if all goes to form then a semi final is the best he can hope for. The chances of all the 3 above him underperforming are pretty slim and I don't think he can beat any of these guys over 5 sets in a GS final.

Nadal to beat Djocovic in an all time classic final.

Federer v Roddick was such a heartbreaking final for me.

I absolutely love Roddick, he's been one of my favourite players since I was about 14, and I really, really wanted him to win. Gutted when Fed won it Sad

He's Scottish.....ergo a choker. Most people know Murray defenitly has the ability to win a Slam, but something happens to him on the big stage and he chokes.

It's a common factor for Scottish sportsmen. In fact the only ones I can think of that have not been chokers are Snooker Players!

I disagree. When has he choked? He's won numerous titles on the circuit and he's only lost GS finals to Federer and Djocovic. He simply hasn't been good enough to win a GS yet but he's up against two of the best players of all time in every tournament.

Rodders - I hate to say it but this years Australian Open final; he choked, big style.

Also there's the added point he's yet to have won a set in a grand slam final. He definitely doesn't play as well in them as he does in all the other matches. Nerves I guess. I know he's up against great players, but he's beaten them in semi-finals before, why not a final?

I would love, love him to do it though!

Murray had the ability to beat Djocovic in Australia, he just didn't. He has beaten Fedderer countless times on the other circuits but can't seem to beat him in the final of a grand slam.

Murray's problems are Psychological. A bit like Monty at Golf.

Untill he realizes just how good he is, he won't win. Don't get me wrong I would love for him to win a GS and I think he will, but he has the skill, determination and ability to have won one by now. What he lacks is the beleif.

Ok i concede too, Chris Hoy can join Stephen Hendry and John Higgins in the non Scottish choker camp, but following sport as long as I have it gets a little annoying when sportsmen, particularly Scots seem to buckle under preassure.

Also there's the added point he's yet to have won a set in a grand slam final. He definitely doesn't play as well in them as he does in all the other matches. Nerves I guess. I know he's up against great players, but he's beaten them in semi-finals before, why not a final?

Thats what it looked like at the time dreamer. He was slight favourite in the Australian open. However Djocovic really raised his game and then went on one of the greatest runs of form the game has ever seen.

I think the very top players go up a level in the finals. Murray doesn't seem to be able to do this. I don't think he's a choker, in fact I think he's got a winners mentality and an "arrogance" that very few british sportsmen have. He's just been found wanting at the very, very top of the game. I think he really needs a top coach to help him make the next step.

Seriously mate you might not want to find anything concrete.

This abomination was drummed up when a fellow 606v2er went digging.

Oh dear, it looks like the unicorn spooge that was sprayed on the last Leinster jersey has found a new home. Unfortunate!

The new Leinster kit is also horrible. Just horrible.

I really wish they’d just make a simple, nice jersey. Like the European one this year, pure class.

European one for Leinster was a lovely shirt. Their nicest one since 2006. I'd hoping for a nice new Munster kit with white or navy shorts and simple design.

Kia ora, mauri ora all. Lovely day in London today.

Quote of the day... "We're one-eyed Cantabrians, mate. Our city may be in a bit of a mess, but our rugby team's good." (from here)
