The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Mickado, no, fortunately I'm not talking about humanity, just the few of us here at the company. We're an offshoot of the mother ship up north and the rumour is that they're going to be finishing down here. But it's only a rumour at this stage, it's a beautiful morning and I'm going to a pub quiz later so I'm not worrying about it!

Thats muck pal. But as you say it's all a rumour at this stage. Could be nothing at all. It is a cracking day today innit. Supposed to be up to the tropical heights of 25 degrees in Dublin this weekend. That's beer garden weather if you ask me!

Blues lead 13-8 at HT
The Tahs need to hold on to posession more in the second half and take more advantage of those sorties off the ruck. Straight line out throws would help too. Who wants to be a NSW fan? It's hard work I'm telling you.

They’re dreadful. And to make it worse, they’re name suggests they only started a band so they could get chicks, and to make it worser (it’s a word) again they probably get it on tap.
I’d love to hear someone do a cover of their stuff with a speech impediment.

luckless,
I'm not sure why an award for being the best player in the worst team means he surely has to go.

Ha, that made me laugh Munsty! But Gareth delve has been quality for Gloucester for several seasons in the past too, and to have played in the Super 15 and held his own is no mean feat.

Luckless,
I agree he should go but I don't think that award really holds too much kudos when it comes to international selection.

Kiwi Qs for Jamie (you can paraphrase):
- Online interaction between players and fans is was a talking point during the 6 Nations. Are you conscious of over exposure when online.
- Is captaincy ever something you would like to achieve
- Do you feel that you Rock Elsom or Jono Gibbes has had a great influence on Leinsters new generation of forwards
- You were a U21 RWC Finalist and got nominee for U21 World Player of Year. Do you agree with IRFU decision to pull out of U20 RWC?
- Was it a bad Leisnter start or a good Saints start in the HEC Final?

Yeah Kiwi, which makes this game interesting to watch to see how we might have to play our games. That is the one drawback about night games.

Stag, answers trickling back:
3) - obviously everyone who works with us on a regular basis has an influence be a player or a coach
5) - a bit of both

Other questions - do you think that Leinster will be able to give gametime to all their current backrows or do you think players will be looking to move.

Another question for Heaslip - do pro rugby players receive any media or interview training. Or is it all just off the cuff?

Why he feels that so many of the Irish players, in particular Leinster one's have struggled to reproduce their provincial form for Ireland this season and whether he feels that provincial success is detrimental or benificial to the National side?
To what does he attribute the massive improvement in performance Ireland produced against England vs the other 6N teams?
Why does he feel Ireland have been relatively more successful against some sides like England, SA, Wales etc. than others like France, NZ etc.?
Has Ireland disappointing display in the 2007 WC altered the way the Ireland are appproaching this years WC?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I'm not going to mention specific names to him but there were a number of players who entered the 6N in red hot form but had a prettypoor tournament. D'arcy is an obvious one but Sexton too. BOD was very poor against Italy. Fitzgerald too.
I mean more from a general point of view, I only mention Leinster because they were playing so well leading up to the tournament.

Gordon Darcy (1 missed tackle aside) has been equally as good for Ireland and Leinster this season.

He's mostly answering the simple light Qs, 140 character limit and all that.
So far - Ronan O'Gara has lousy taste in music, as does Rob Kearney (esp. since RK criticised JH)
BOD's the most talented player he's ever seen
His favourite SXV team is the Stormers (as he likes Cape Town)
He likes HP sauce, doesn't like chocolate cereals, and fave dessert is cheesecake

How about the Q that has everyone jumping up and down on Stags thread? HC or 6N? Which is better? Or to put it another way, if he could only win one, which would it be?

I would have said Darcy and Fitz weren't in great form for Lenister either.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
He was poor in the 6nations, but he was poor for Leinster too. Same goes for Luke Fitzgerald. The only other player I can think of that hasn’t impressed at international level as much as provincial for Leinster is SOB, and we need to give him a bit more time in the green jersey before he’s comfortable at that level.

Did ok against England.
Here's a talking point - Will O'Leary win the #9 shirt back at Munster/Ireland before the 2012 Six Nations?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Everyone did ok against England. That's beside the point.
And, no I can’t see O’Leary winning the SH shirt back. He would be a good player to have in an Isaac Boss/horses for courses mould, but he won’t be the number 1 scrummie.

I've asked. When he was asked "Ireland RWC win or Lions series win" he said "both"
Other interesting one, he doesn't have a clue what life after rugby will hold, scarey prospect. Though he does have that Med Eng degree to fall back on.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Why would he stag Murray and Reddan are better scrum halves?
I'll go a step further and say that I don't belive Ireland can either play an expansive game or be a successful side under the new law variations with Thomas O'Leary at scrum half.
He is only suited to playing a conservative, defensive game plan and we cannot succeed with this type of rugby, with our pack and the new laws.

Rodders - thats fair enough. I don't think he should but its a question worth asking.
Murray is the best young option. Reddan is a better experienced option.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
If we are considering starting with O'Leary and Rob Kearney in the WC then we should just cancel the flights and withdraw from the tournament. In fact we should just forfeit our participation in international rugby.
And yes I'm being serious.
