The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

My missus says "Yay!" "Back in the day" and "Closure" - a lot these days. She should know better. I beat her Black and Blue because of it. She knows she fully deserves it and respects me more for it.

Morning Glas/everyone when they come in.
My uncle is coming today along with my aunt and her husband. I can't remember how long ago it was I last saw him. He's a priest over in Japan. It's weird really as I'm very close to the rest of my family and can talk to all of them but I don't know what I can talk about with him.

Bore da pawb / good morning all, Thursday already!
I really enjoyed watching Wales v England from 2003 last night. Some of Wales's handling was brilliant, especially in the build-up for the third try. Penalties cost us, though - Robin McBryde conceded as many penalties as the whole of the England side by himself.
Another thing: we were trying backline moves off first-phase ball! How novel! I'm glad we don't do that any more!

Munsty, talk about your family. You have that in common. Also, ask him about Japan - let him talk and you'll probably find something of interest you can discuss from what he says.
Failing that, you could play charades.

Bore da pawb/Good morning all.
Miserable day in the 'Diff but it's so close to Friday I don't care! Also a new farmers market is starting up on High Street today to looking forward to popping along to that later if the weather clears a bit. Then cake baking in the evening. A good day sorted

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I've been on a bit of a long journey with baking things Lucky. I remember when me and my sister were little, we made choc chip cup cakes with my mam....and they exploded in the oven although I think that was more to do with my mam!
Then again I tried making the pastry for mince pies from scratch at Nadolig last year....that was definitely a disaster!
Just learn by trial by error I guess

Aye Hughie, true that, especially with cakes, the measurements always have to be pretty spot on, can't experiment so much with them.
I don't know whether I'm looking forward to the team announcements later or not, could be carnage on the threads outside!

It's a shame Kiwi had to post that article warning people on their behaviour here, but hopefully it'll do the trick. There do seem to be people who set out to wind others up.

Maybe this isn't my place to say but I think this is a very silly stereotype to make especially if the person is your uncle.
Anyway, talk to him about Japan, what you want to do with your life, about from when he and your parents were younger, about anything really. You don't really know him, get to know him and find a common ground. I would have thought that religion would have been a very good and interesting thing for you both to discuss. I wouldn't automatically assume he'll belittle you.

I am looking forward to the teams today have to say. I think 6 Nations is dull as dishwater but I love the World Cup

There does seem to be that element alright. We should give them a name, like "wind up vendors". Or something.

You know how Dreamer and Kiwi have moderator/admin badges. We could get "KNOWN WIND UP MERCHANT" badges under their username, sends a warning to all others
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Fingers crossed it does Lucky, coz maybe I shouldn't say it, but this site has been a pain in the a rse to moderate this week so far.

Lucky, it seems to be the same half-dozen culprits every time - unfortunately some of them do have senses of humour and can be v funny at time, while others not

First of all it's a joke but it does have some truth in it.

Dreamer - not once yesterday did the red marker have to come out when I was posting. When things looked to get a bit heated with posters I respect like Asbo and Biltongbek I sent a PM to let them know I was taking the mick.

Ah yeah I know Stag, it was pretty obvious you weren't being serious. And good idea on sending of the PM's to warn others, stops it turning nasty. Got a lot of laughs out of that thread yesterday (well for the most part anyway!)

Case and point proven, Stag did it so its only a bit of a laugh, other posters do it and they get labelled a WUM and threatened to be banned, how is that fair??

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
There is the point of wumming just to irritate other posters/start fights etc and just to generally urine others off.
Then there's the wumming of yesterday by the likes of Stag that was firmly tongue in cheek and which I would label more as banter.
It's just a fine line I guess, but that's how I see it.

Several things really :
1 - I would stop immediately if asked by any moderator or administrator
2 - I sent PMs to anyone I thought may have been getting overly annoyed to keep things mellow
3 - It generated banter without any swearing, threatening behaviour or calling people vulgar names
4 - Nobody reported any of my posting to a moderator
