The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Munsty - yeah it's fine. I'll be moving offices permanently before long anyway (fingers crossed) which means I probably won't get in here at all weekdays when I do, but that's OK cause the rugby's not on during the week days
Thomond - you're not even 21?! I always thought Staggy was the pub baby....??

Thomond,
Even if he is traded, that is as good a pairing as we've had in the Reid era. I've been a fan of AF for about 7 years now. It was hard to keep track last year to be honest but I'm hoping I might keep in touch a little more now if not as much as I used to.
Oh yeah, I knew about that. It's on down in Turner's Cross isn't it? Any chance of an away win?

Big chance Limerick are one of the best teams in the 1st division and have signed the Behanator and Joe Gamble, 2 ex city players one of whom is very good the other is a Paddy Wallace type of person.

Have we a discussion topic for tomorrow. Maybe assessing how Argentina or France will do. I agree the Ireland team topics are running a little bland.
Or maybe which will be most improved club team (provincial, regional too for you pedants) of 2011-2012.
I dunno lets put our heads together and come up with a good topic for tomorrow.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag, why don't we talk about how Paddy Wallace is a decent tackler as he made the same as McFadden, but wait they didn't have the same impact,so of course he isn't as effective, then we should take it into a different direction and talk abou how O'Leary can't do anything right nor can Leamy
Munsty, think the winners of this game get home venue for the final too.

Really? That would be awesome. I'm hoping we get promoted though more than win this.
Stag,
I like the idea of trying to get a discussion going about France or Argentina. It's trying to lure some of those Irish posters to it as they don't exactly stray far from Irish rugby.
Also, are you home?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yea Munsty home all evening.
The difficulty with discussing the French is that people simply dismiss them as inconsistent. I think it is vital to hammer home the fact that France have picked a 31 man squad.
The big problem though (and I've seen it before) is that you back France to beat England and the English suggest that we (Irish) put the French on a pedestal due to a bad record against them. This leads back to Irish fans defending Irish performances in 6 Nations.
I'm gonna try sound out what people think of their team and where they will win and lose.

Croydon ablaze. Mindless thugs apparently, but enough intelligence about them to organise a co-ordinated uprising against the Met via social networks.

It's kind of nice in a funny way, seeing this happening somewhere else in the UK or Ireland. Or not nice, but a real relief. It's not so inherently bad in Belfast, other places have riots too!
Like when you have an embarrassing rash, you're kind of glad when you find out someone else has it too because you're not uniquely troubled.

An embarrassing rash is a sign something is wrong Notch. The phone tapping scandal is central to this. How can you respect authority if it is corrupt?

Hi all. The Kaiser Chiefs were right then.
It's not good seeing part of your city being destroyed. Places being torched with no regard to families living above the destruction is distressing.
Notch - being 'relieved' at this shoite happening somewhere other than where you live, isn't sitting well with me. It shouldn't be happening at all. Anywhere.

You know what he means Hound. At least he's being honest. You can't condone this, but unless the Police try to empathise with these kids they will never get back on top.

But Glas the problem is that one way which the Police could empathise and 'engage' with the young people is through youth services such as youth offenders trust, communities 1st, many many local projects. And who are being hit by the cuts and money being taken from them??!!

Whilst I am sure you meant no offence, please be careful about how you phrase things mate and I am saying this as a mate not a mod. There is nothing nice about it. My eldest daughter is due to be in a production of jungle book at a theatre in Croydon and was at rehearsals this evening, which had to be cut short because it was not safe. It is frightening and upsetting, and I have friends from my force who have been sent up to help, and are faced with petrol bombs amongst other things being thrown at them.
I understand your relief that it is not near you,but please don't say that it is funny on any level at all.

It's not funny in any way. My cousin and her friends were just out for some drinks and police came and warned everyone on the street she was on to get the hell out of there because the rioters were on their way. One of my best mates from uni has people rioting just 2 streets away from her. This is completely horrible.

Yea I'd just like to clarify my above was intended as humour, though given the circumstances it may be in poor taste.
Got to be honest I'm not 100% clear on the rules in here anymore after all the recent scirmishes so I apologise for any offence caused.

That can't help in the long term Prop, no I agree with you. But, those projects haven't prevented this and there has not been enough time for the results of the cuts to trickle through. However kids are not thick. They do talk and they will now that the Met is rotten. One of their own was killed and due to social networks the resulting anarchy has snowballed. However, this is not Syria and they won't be shot. The riots are a symptom of social malaise, we need to address the cause and not get carried away with the symptoms.

Comiserations to Munsty.
Hope all those who have friends and families near the attack zones are safe. The police have some interesting questions to answer from this incident.

Willy, none taken mate, I'm just a little over sensitive as it's all been a bit raw this evening for the reasons stated above, along with my mum not living a million miles from Croydon.

Yeah fine. But when they are barbecuing beefeaters in the quadrant at Buckingham Palace don't say I didn't warn you.
Pete, no Met Commissioner had to resign since the nineteenth century until the last two who have both gone. You can say not everybody in the Met is corrupt just because there is a rotten core and that is correct, however the corruption at the Met has fed into this. Unfortunately there are fatal Police shootings from time to time, but the difference here is that people who have nothing to do with that are rioting. It boils down to this, you have to earn respect. Selling information to tabloids doesn't do that.

Problem is glas: how do we get to them then? If groups don't work, education seems to be failing them and 'role model" sports stars can't behave themselves? I would go down gibbo's route as mentioned above but surely that'll just anger more. What's worrying for me is if more jump onto the bandwagon as appears to have happened in b'ham.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Glas, sorry mate, but that is the biggest load of shoite I've ever heard you come up.
Are you seriously suggesting that it is ok to riot and cause damage and injury to innocent people because you believe that a police force is corrupt, or that some bloke you have never even heard of before has been shot. That is utter bollix mate.
There is no excuse for this. The people who are doing it are scum, and half of them probably couldn't even give you an answer if you asked them the simple question of why.

I've just tried to book a cab home. Apparently most of the drivers have gone off shift because it's kicked off in Harrow. Not the last place I would have expected trouble, but I'm not surprised.

Glas, are you serious man? These louts have no idea and no clue what is happening in the World. They get their dole, do a few numbers and get on with their miserable lives. Yes, the Tabloids and certain police officers are culpable for the credibility of the Met being at an all-time low. ... but burning streets down and looting is hardly the answer. They dont give a sheet. They are morons. Surely you must deal with them in the Courts? People like Pete have to take them on at the front-line. In History, it has always been the police who bear the brunt of soft-centered Courts and weak government. No offence M'Lord.

I'm not condoning their actions, far from it, but you have to try and understand why this is happening. Just blaming scum (that is what most are of course) and refusing to look to the root cause won't solve anything. Strong arming will stop the disorder in the short term but will cause long term problems. I am not, as you should know, some wishy washy liberal or lefty.
