First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Ale

The mother and father of double whammies: Anarchy whist teetering on the abyss of economic collapse.

On the rioting front, it's gone past the time to do anything liberal. Martial law, army, baton rounds, water canon and shut down of mobile networks and instruct ISPs to shut down social networks.

And that's from a wishy-washy liberal. The police, courts and prisons couldn't cope with what they've got on their plates as it is.

And the effect of insurance claims on pensions funds etc. is unimaginable.

Anyone going away to the RWC should also consider taking the hit by taking the spendos in Swiss Francs or the Yuan.

Morning all.

Not really following the riots as such due to lack of tv etc. Absolute madness though.

So had a great sleep last night. Makes such a difference to my day when I start it with a shower too. No wonder I felt so grotty all day (on top of guilty for my little lie in)

Hopefully get a Welsh team soon, but I guess it'll be Thursday again.

Morning Rev. The team for Saturday's going to be announced on Thursday.

I saw a photo of the Bisley stand on Saturday - only a few seats had been put in, but it looks really impressive.

morning all, hope everyone's well.

I had an awful night's sleep last night, got pretty wound up by watching newsnight so took me ages to drift off. Still last day at work for me this week and then I'm away until Sunday.

So glad to be getting out of Cardiff but a bit gutted I'm going to be missing Wales v England and all the build up for it.

Apparently they didn't look too bad Lucky aye. Certainly not as bad as that picture we saw suggested. Never mind, I'll get a good look a week today at the Russia game.

Dreamer, it's probably a good thing I can't see coverage of it all or I'd probably be getting annoyed and worried for people I know too.

Lucky - I'm off to Fairports 'Cropredy' Convention in Banbury in Oxfordshire, tis a music festival that lasts over 3 days. Went there last year and it was amazing, 3 days of perfect chill out time.

Seasick Steve is playing there this year, can't wait to see him play!

Rev - yeah probs, and tis just the people they had on the show were all just talking such rubbish. Drove me nuts.

Yeah they headline on the Saturday night. They were incredible last year, playing in the middle of this massive thunder and lightning storm, the atmosphere was incredible! I heart Cropredy (apart from all the wasps that are there!)

Portnoy - seems a couple of football matches have been postponed already, so maybe all sporting events in London will be called off.

It will be three days of complete chill out which is just what I need Smile

Mindless violence for violence sake. Absolutely ludicrous. And we tell ourselves we live in a civilised society. Not while scum like these guys can walk the streets. I wish to god the police would crack down a bit harder. The cue the Sun headline 'Police use rubber bullets and battons on innocent looter wielding a knife'.

Without wanting to sound pompous there seems to be a complete lack of a moral compass with this class of people. For younger teenagers I suspect they are following the example of older brothers/friends. They must know the difference between right and wrong. And if not they must learn it, even if I have to volunteer to go over there and beat it into each and every one of them. One I've finished with the scum in Belfast that is.

We're a work in progress. London's the fecking capital city for dear sake.

Breathes very deeply. OK – I’m no Conservative but this is NOT down to the Conservatives. This is down to the weak willed lilly–livered touchy-feely, “Now this is your last (after 58 others) chance” brigade. Seems that nobody has responsibilities anymore just “rights”

Forget ‘No taxation without representation’ The new clarion call should be “NO RIGHTS WITHOUT RESPONSIBILITIES” and if those in Brussels/ The Hague ...etc don’t like it tell to shove up there ar$e

Try this test. Can’t vouch for how scientific it is LINK

I come out as a across between Ghandi, Mandela, Genghis Khan and Stalin, slightly to the left of the centre of the compass and just above the middle ( I reckon most people are neither Left or Right, Liberal or Authoritarian, but a real mix of all)

Sorry If I've come across all Daily Fail on you there, but all this stuff p!sses me right off. I grew up on a council estate and we had little or no money, but that didn't stop my Dad working his guts out to get the best he could for us, instiling good values and he always encouraged us to work/study hard so that we'd 'better' ourselves. Now where did I put my UZI ? Headscratch

I'm surprised anyone thinks these riots are mindless?

The looting and damage is despicable and inexcusable but until the actually root cause of the nilihistic and anti-establishment views of the rioters is addressed then there's no way to stop what is essentially a social uprising by the disillusioned under classes.

I expect that this will continue to spread now but the irony is that this is taking media attention away from the far more serious economic crisis.

Mickyt the measures put in place in NI are to pay off or appease the organisers of the rioters by conceding to their political and economic demands so I don't know if that is possible in this instance.

Add to that the likelihood that the young people involved in this have been brought up to see the police as the enemy.

Remember respect for authority? What a quaint concept.

I suspect Micky that they already know and don't particuarly care and if they do they probably can't do much about it. In fact some of them are probably out rioting and looting too.

I'm not normally a pub poster but I hope everyone in London (and indeed elsewhere) is ok this morning. Unbeliveable scenes in London last night, hard to believe people would act like that.

To make the post slightly rugby related, the fancy dress/joke shop where apparently the pills from the bloodgate scandal were bought was burned last night.

Penfro, I couldn't agree more. I hear the excuses for criminal behaviour every day. "Oh, but he comes from a broken home" or "he lives in a deprived area". Utter and total bollix.

I was raised by my mother on a council estate in Brixton after she ditched my drunk of a father due to his violent and abusive nature. We lived through the riots there, it's where I grew up. My mother then met another man, who was also an ar$ehole and sexually abused my sister and other members of my family and went to prison for it. My mother worked long hours and I was a 'latchkey kid' who came home from school and let himself in and made his own dinner. I had no positive male role model and neither did my sister.

A left school and got a job and as everyone here knows I am a policeman. My sister is a GP. We chose to work hard for the things that we have in our lives despite coming from a a difficult background. These ar$eholes are chosing to do what they are doing. So anyone who wants to use the, but they come from the social underclasses and have been deprived background, please save it, as I have heard it all before and it is still total and utter Poopie.

Anyway, morning all

Is there some rugby on that we can talk about as I am finding talking about the riots pretty upsetting for a large number of reasons. There must be something good going on in the world that we can focus on. Very Happy

The reasons for the original rioting in Tottenham are well documented. The secondary ones in Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool and Nottingham are just copying previous criminal activity and are just mindless acts of looting and destruction.

Morning all, I agree with Stag - there is a thread down in Off-topic for the riots discussion https://www.606v2.com/t11078-why-not-shoot-sight, so keep the politics side of the debate there.

My netball game tonight's been cancelled as the school we play at wants to lock up as soon as the kids leave.

Otherwise, great weekend away, I've got a ton of photos to sort through tonight Smile

Not sure what you mean here Rodders ? Social uprising would, to me, mean they'd have an agenda for political/social reform. The only thing these SCUM seem to have on their agenda, is looting, pilfering plus arson & destruction

Like stag said it should go off topic. I'm not sympethetic with the rioters in anyway. On the surface it might appear to be just mindless destruction but the root causes are poverty and lack of education and a sense of social/moral responsibility in most of these people.

These rioters were smart enough to spot and opportunity and organise this so I don't think you can call them mindless or politically unaware. In my opinion these people won't stop until there is an incentive to do so and despite what you or I might think the threat of the army or of a jail sentence is not a deterrent for some of these people.

I just think this is a complicated problem and not as simple to resolve as some might think.

edit:Sorry kiwi posted before I read your post.

Is there some rugby on that we can talk about as I am finding talking about the riots pretty upsetting for a large number of reasons. There must be something good going on in the world that we can focus on. Very Happy

Small matter of Cymru & Lloegr this weekend. Probably 2 very different sides from last weekend (Also, France v Ireland - must stick to the core values of da Pub Wink )

Ah so we're in the same area on the left but you're above the centre and I'm below it. It still doesn't mean to much to me I have to say!

Pete - Hug plenty of rugby chat to be had. I know Stag's started up a thread about the French team in the international section. I seriously can't call how they'll do, I just hope that they do very well. I heart the French rugby team.

I just did that test. I'm in Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama's neck of the woods.

Hope the rugby goes ahead Penfro. Going to be very interesting to see who is selected for both sides. Englands problem areas are getting the balnace of the back row right and the midfield.

Where do you think Wales don't quite know what their best options are?
