Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the David Wallace photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

I'm watching it Gibbo - the story's a bit derivative, but a good drama all the same

Derivative? That's what Asbo deals in yeah? Not smart like you pal. Just enjoyed it for what it was. Raw drama, with a smart working-class girl, punching her way through the BS, set in a macho Glaswegian 80's setting. The BEEB do it so well. Better than anyone. Better than all the rest.

One of my brother's flatmates sent me a message over facebook chat claiming to have the best joke ever, then went offline. I need to hear this joke. Should I phone my brother just to get him to find it out for me?

Is the joke, "How do you keep an idiot in suspense ?" ;-)

Haha, no. I haven't even had the opening line. Maybe this is the (practical) joke. Not happy about it at all though!

Don't have his flatmate's number, and my brother's phone is off (probably gone to bed). Not going to let this one lie though!

Don't man. Don't. Or the joke will run and run.
Maybe that's the whole point of the joke? Dunno.

Kia,
That actually scares me. I'm so glad we have all since grown up now, closely monitored and sensible. They were heady days. Heady days indeed.

I know girl. I was right. Kidney and the kids on here, took 3 years to realise it. Ah well. Too late now?
Yeah, I was happy we won the SLAM. Of course I was. I'd never seen it before. But since then, he has lived up to my lowest expectations of him. Don't live in the past, Ms History. Lets make it so.
Let's get through this one and get someone in, who can take us where we need to be, after it.

Manu had better clean that off....he's not too big for a big stick...
Gibbo - did I sound like a snob last night? Sorry, what I meant was it's very similar to something else. If you've seen The Red Riding trilogy you'll know what I mean.

Bore da pawb / good morning all. Had a swell time in Swansea visiting my middle sister and brother-in-law. The weather was decent enough yesterday too - it was beautiful on whatever beach we went to.
One thing that occurred to me as strange is that I throw a ball left-handed but throw a frisbee right-handed. I think that makes me omnipotent.

Can you write with both hands as well Lucky? I do everything with my right hand except eating with a knife and fork. I do that the left handed way.

Lucky,I write with my left but would throw a ball right handed. I can kind of play golf with both.

I'm incredibly right handed yet unbelievably left footed when it comes to football. Can only use my right to stop the ball nothing else.

I'm left-footed and write with my right hand too, Willy. My mum writes with her left hand. My dad writes with his right hand but plays (make that played) tennis left-handed.

Backing Australlia to go the distance. They'll easily beat us in the group stages and their win at the weekend will have given them a huge amount of confidence.
I fear for Ireland. I don't think we've ever played to our full potential. It might all come together down (mindless loyalty), or we could be sent home with our tails between our legs (more likely at the moment). Ultimately the warm up games mean nothing. Irish provincial rugby has just had it's best ever year, there's no longer any excuse for this team not to start performing. If we don't I'd be very surprised if DK was still in charge.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I agree Willy. On current form I think we'll be lucky to get out of our group and if we do we'll likely get a pasting in the QF.
I can see Australia or England in the final against NZ and to be honest I'm not as certain of a NZ victory as I was 2 weeks ago.
I thought France looked pretty good in the warm ups too as did Wales.

Cheers for the link Cari. looking back at some of the posts, can't believe what I and the other posters used to write! Bit of a change in mood from our Irish friends from the euphoria of the HC to now lol. Strange what a few results do.....
Not looking good on the trains between Cardiff & Newport. Fatality earlier this morning. Loads of delays.

Willy, it seems to me that there's too much of a commitment to run the ball with Ireland. They should revert a bit to kicking to the corners and playing territory. But a centre pairing of D'Arcy and Earls is always going to be too lightweight.

I think France will do well, Rodders - as long as Trinh-Duc stays on the field. David Skrela's no good.
I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that England will lose to both Argentina and Scotland.

Much as I would enjoy seeing that lucky I can't see it coming to pass. England look decent and I like Rodders wouldn't bet against them reaching the semis. Scotland have slipped under the radar quite nicely. No serious injuries. 2 warm up wins. On their day they should be able to run England close.

Whilst not beyond the realms of possibility it isn't really very likely either. Argentina are an ageing side who are nowhere near the level they were at in 2007. It won't be a pretty game but I would expect a fairly comfortable win for England against them in all honesty. Scotland is a a potential banana skin for sure, as they always raise their game against us, but again, I would say that we surely start that game as favourites.
Morning all

I'm still going for a New Zealand win overall. I'm not sure who'll do worse than expected....Wales most probably!
Breadvan - I haven't really read through the old stuff much, but I don't think there's much comparison between then and on here...I'd say the WUMs can get worse on here. The BBC were quick to remove a lot of things as soon as they were reported.

I thought Paddy Wallace played much better than D'arcy in the Warm ups and at least added a bit of variety whereas D'arcy is far to predicatable these days and looks slow and ponderous.
It's clear from the warm ups that without Heaslip, Wallace, O'Brien and Ferris that we really struggle to get over the gainline and lack penetration. Loosing Wallace is a massive blow and we'll be in big trouble if we don't keep the other 3 fit.

My 1st primary school teacher firmly put the pencil in my right hand. As a result I write (messily), bat and bowl right handed. But I kick left-footed, and play squash and tennis left handed

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I only really use my right hand or foot for writing or sport or anything. I can write to an extent with my left hand but it looks like a 5-year old kid is writing (as opposed to an 8-year old as with my right hand).
I suppose the only thing I can do ambidextrously is kickboxing, as from lesson one you have to work both hands and feet. My right side is still stronger though.

I wonder how much influence that has. I can't remember whether I had a pencil placed in my right hand or I picked it up with my right hand. It's not as though they scold children for being left-handed as they used to do.

It (apparently) was pretty rare when I came through - but my 1st primary school teacher was nearing retirement and pretty old-fashioned. I do remember that I had the pencil in the left hand to start with - though whether that had to do with Mum being left-handed and influencing me earlier ...
Nowadays I find my left arm is actually stronger than the right, though the right is more accurate.

I'm exactly the same. Only right handed for cricket and golf.
Years ago I had an injury to my left leg but trained myself to kick with the right. At first it felt like 60% as good as my left, then 70%, 80% up to about 90%.

On the right-handed / left-handed thing. Rod Laver (remember him - greatest ever tennis player) was left handed. At the height of his career, the circumference of his left forearm was twice that of his right forearm!

Apparently there's a no-great-shakes French player who plays either right- or left-handed depending on where on the court he is. He has no back hand.
