Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the David Wallace photo on the bar. That's a banning offence

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

I have to laugh (or despair) at some Irish fans. Just been told by a completely serious poster that Leinster would comfortably defeat the likes of South Africa or France.

In a tour match in Dublin, up against the mid-weekers, they just might grab a win. "Convincing" might be a bit of a stretch though.

I've said before a full-strength Crusaders side would do OK in the 6-nations. Perhaps you should respond that the Reds and Crusaders would "comfortably" beat Leinster Wink

Hmmm, before the Leinster mafia arrive, Run

Just had a nice evening in the pub with the Penfros and Dreamer. Not a great match - but a win for the O's. Disappointed they didn't get a BP.

Oh, and Ruddock is not a captain - not of a senior team at this level. Awful, awful, awful. I have to say that I have seen Leinster play at Murrayfield (in the league) and at Firhill and really felt that they needed a boot up their collective orses. Depend too much on home advantage to get them the results??? Tonight was dreadful - and I still have the second half to watch The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub - Page 15 1505004552

Mixed bag from Ulster tonight, no try bonus point, but a comfortable win in heavy rain. Very impressive stuff from the forwards but Humphreys had a very poor game and that hurt us a lot. Glasgow were pretty limited; they went at it hammer and tongs for 50/55 minutes but faded badly in the last quarter.

Dreamer's better at that than me Notch - read her post in the Ospreys v Leinster thread. It's a good summary. thumbsup

It was a good win, but I would've been happier if they'd got the BP. The discipline's still shocking. I wasn't surprised when Tipuric got a yellow...except I did think it would be Ianto. Shows we can do OK without the "galactico" players I suppose, and it's a good start to the season for us.

Oh and I thought the ref missed a lot of errors - mostly knock ons. But that's easy for me to say when I was watching a big screen.

English aka Pete - is Stevens going to start for England or is he glued to #16 shirt due to versatility.

Welsh - Could Wales have a situation where in 6 Nations not one backrow has more than 23 years old - Falatau, Warbuton, Lydiate, Turnbull, Tipuric - if so would it be a worry?

Stag

So for the delay, have had a busy day and not been near a computer for most of it. Stevens should start for England at tighthead but won't, mainly due to the fact that Cole is a firm favourite of Johnson. Cole is a good scrummager and anchors the pack well, but offers very little in the loose.

Before his ban Stevens scrummaging was ok but not great, but since coming back, he looks in better shape physically and has scrummaged well on both sides. He also provides great carrying and workrate. His versatility does perhaps go against him, but I never understand why. Start him at 3 with Cole on the bench and if the loosehead has to go off he can just switch over, it's not rocket science.

Anyway, evening all,

Wife is home from hospital and kids are asleep and I am watching Ulster vs. Glasgow, second half has just started.

How is everyone?

Are most Ulster home games a full house Notch, as there looked like a fair few empty seats at Ravenhill tonight?

Wife's good thanks dreamer. I think the Scarlets will win comfortably this weekend. Who is playing 10 for them with Jones and Priestland both away?

What was the final score Cari? I saw the O's were something like 28-3 up at one stage.

Blimey, that is a strange old game. Were the Ospreys that good first half or Leinster poor or a combination?

I suspect that in these first few rounds in the the Rabo and Aviva there will be a few odd results.

Ah, I see MrsP, you mean Rava won't let anyone sit there. I understand now! Wink

Am desperate for a trip to Ravenhill, HC QF will do nicely! Very Happy

Scarlets team against Aironi Sunday 4th September at Parc y Scarlets kick off 1600: 15 Daniel Evans, 14 Lee Williams, 13 Rhodri Gomer Davies 12 Aled Thomas, 11 Andy Fenby, 10 Dan Newton, 9 Rhodri Williams, 1 Iestyn Thomas (capt), 2 Emyr Phillips, 3 Rhys Thomas, 4 Aaron Shingler, 5 Dominic Day, 6 Rob McCusker, 7 Josh Turnbull, 8 Ben Morgan.

Replacements: Kirby Myhill, Phil John, Simon Gardiner, Lou Reed, Richie Pugh, Justin James, Rhys Jones, Adam Warren.

It'll be a big, big step up for Newton I think Pete. He played a few LV games at 10 for us last season but spent most of his time for us at 15. Not fully convinced of him, think he's a bit like Priestland was a couple of seasons ago, v much a confidence player. It's a ridiculously inexperienced backline we've got there. I also don't recognise any of the backs on the bench!

No, not really. Heineken Cup games and games against the bigger teams are. The Scots and the Italians are a harder sell, especially with the BBC dictating 7.05 kick off games. Makes it harder to get there if you live outside Belfast and why bother when it's on TV? The fact that almost all of the star players are missing, Northern Ireland are playing at home and the forecast of heavy rain just about outs the seal on it.

Attendances have steadily decreased since BBC NI got the rights, does my head in.

Blimey you know I hadn't really looked at the team properly before now,not even sure we've got a replacement scrum half. Rhys Jones is a 10 I think, Kingsley Jones' son I've heard (might not be true)

bit surprised Dom Day's getting a start over Lou Reed. Make or break season for him I think.

I really like Dan Evans at full back dreamer, I remember when we played at your place in the Heino the season before last, he was fantastic and tore us to shreds at times.

Quality back row you have there as well.

That is actually true. The old stand is showing its age! Saw some footage of Irelands first Slam in 1948 the other night, it looked much the same way back then.

ah Dan Evans is really hit and miss Pete, although sometimes I forget how young he is. Some games he's brilliant but other's he just goes missing. So frustrating. he's a handy player though, can play 10 at a push too. Just wish he'd get some consistency.

I love our back row. Wales' loss is the Scarlets' gain in Josh Turnbull for sure.

George Hook on orte looks ready to explode. Expect a Fitz slagging imminently.

Here quick question. Why oh why is the trophy at the Liberty Stadium?

The new trophy is awful as are the jerseys for refs. Dreamer, impressive forwards for the Scarlets, untested backs.
