Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the David Wallace photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Just found out the results.
Good win for the Ospreys. Just watching that now actually. What a start. On a side note, I hope Eddie Butler continues to commentate on the Pro12 throughout the season.
Good win for Ulster. Should they have got the bonus?

Yes. The conditions certainly played a big part, but when we got our third the fight went out of them. Just ran out of time. We were all over them at the end, just beaten by the clock and a lack of a clinical edge!
Halfbacks didn't give the outside backs enough quality ball with the platform they had, Wannenburg could have passed to Spence earlier when he made the intercept, Whitten overran it when we had an overlap- just a few wee errors that probably meant we left a BP out there.

I think we should have Munsty.
The looks on the lads' faces at the end suggests that they thought so too.

How come Whitten started on the wing? It thought he was a 12?

We'll be very disappointed not to; reminders of last season when we scored three tries against Connacht, Aironi- got to make the most of those opportunities!

Just a combination of injuries plus international call-ups. We have loads of centres, but he was targeted mercilessly by Glasgow at the restarts. Actually did ok after a shaky start.
Wallace, Marshall, Spence and Cave- four very good centres. He's not going to see much gametime so I think they may well try and make him something like the Ulster Banahan.
Not sure if thats a compliment or an insult to him!

Thought Spence and Cave looked solid in the midfield. That has got to be as good a midfield pairing as anywhere in the league during the World Cup.

T - aye the forwards look good, strongest we could put our really except for Math Rees, so they better blydi well perform! We'll be completely screwed if they don't put in a good showing.

Sorry, forgot to say - well played Ospreys, just so much sharper, especially at the breakdown.

I think so, but would like to see Marshall get a bit of gametime! Spence is a very effective player at this level but he must learn to pass and offload if he wants to play for Ireland. We just use him as a strike runner right now of course.

Dare I say, I had forgotten the rugby was starting again tonight!!
Turned it on for the last wee bit and saw, guess what, - it was raining at Ravenhill. So some things never change, what.
Well done Ulster and Ospreys

2-2 in sets in the tennis, winner takes all decider here now! c'mon Murray (Hasse does appear to be struggling physically now, this may not even last a whole other set).

I genuinely checked my phones callender there cos I could have sworn the children were all back at school.
Lots of errors from Leinster. Very slow to the breakdown.

the tennis is giving me a nervous breakdown.
he was 4-1 up in the 5th and it's now 4-4 all with Haase to serve next. Please Murray can you win soon so I can get some sleep.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
he breaks back to make it 5-4! Now serving for the match...
ah man he's down to 0-30....
a couple of cagey points, he takes it to 30-30....
2 points to go Murray, c'mon!
40-30 with a great passing shot!
aaaah no wide on the next point
Deuce.
I'm not sure I can take too much more of this.

took him 3 match points but he's finally done it, and won it in 5 sets!! yay Murray
Can't see him getting any further then the SF (which he'll be lucky to get to) this year though if he plays anymore like he did in the first 2 sets, twas dreadful stuff that.
and now I can sleep. Nos da folks.

Article on how desperate NZ are not to choke again;
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2011/sep/02/new-zealand-all-blacks-world-cup
Last paragraph caught my eye;
If you changed the words New Zealand to Ireland... sums up how I feel.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2011/sep/02/new-zealand-all-blacks-world-cup
Last paragraph caught my eye;
I'd just like to think that New Zealand supporters and the media are all going to be inside the tent pissing out, rather than on the outside pissing in," he says. "When things get difficult, that's when your true colours get shown. Are you actually in this together, are you supporting, or are you just going to jump ship and say: 'I told you so'? I think that's where human character gets revealed."
If you changed the words New Zealand to Ireland... sums up how I feel.

That paperboy is rubbish.
Anyway, the real leagues start today. Croesyceiliog away for me with Risca firsts. Impact player. Think we'll be in for a long day in the scrums. Glad I'm in the squad though as Risca Athletic's game is off.
Then I expect I'll watch Munster v Dragons later. I bet Stag is torn inside as to who to support

Rev I really wouldn't mind a Dragons win. Munster will probably win at least another 15-18 Pro 12 games. Dragons probably won't get half of that. We can afford to throw a bit of charity their way. We're good like that - always thinking of those misfortunes not as well off as ourselves.

You'd better run
I don't see the Dragons winning. I'll settle for a win for Risca instead.
I bought a Welsh WC shirt last night. Might not get much wear out of it, but I do quite like it. Be buying the black change strip (not the WC one) soon as well, probably just before the Six Nations.

Well I tell you what Rev I do hope Risca win - you playing btw? If my favourite Dragon Aled Brew has a good game against us I can usually stomach a loss. However he's not playing so the gloves are off.

Impact player. Just glad to be in the squad really. Sure I'll get a good run out.
Our left winger today Mike Poole is sort of similar to Aled Brew, Stag. It'll be interesting to see how he goes today against a tidy player like Dougie.

You'll be lucky to get 5 minutes today, your only in the squad due to equal opportunitys employment laws.

I look forward to seeing him Rev. I love when teams have a big physical winger - Lomu, Horgan, Rougerie, Brew, Banahan etc.
Hughie have you heard Frankie Boyles comment about how he was worried Mel Gibson couldn't play a convincing Scotsman in Braveheart. But look at him now . . . an alcoholic racist

Yeah, that is a chilling movie Hughie... I've been to Dien Bien Phu (the mountainous area where the French were ambushed big time) and some of the old coastal bases (China Beach, Da Nang) and places inland along the HCM Trail. I even fired a Kalshnikov and an M16 at this special firing range. The old VC guy said to me "Ohhh... you very good shot! Wanna buy more bullet?"

Thanks to Dreamer, Cari & Prop for meeting up last night. Lovely to see you Good win for the O's, bit disappointed they didn't get a BP - so reminiscent of last season 3 tries, plenty of time and they don't get a 4th
Good luck to Rev, hope you get some good game-time
As Prop says - THE SEASON STARTS TODAY Prop won't need luck, he'll hit his "jumper" no probs
