The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of pub regulars. We've got the big group pic from the HEC final in Cardiff, plus insets of ll those who couldn't make it
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

There's lovely, Puma. Never been to York. Love to go. I'm a Cathedral and architecture anorak. Ask poor Chef, who took to me loads of them in Southern France. Great man for guiding you to beauty, that fella.
England and France are a joy for that kinda thing. So are Germany, Spain, Italy and parts of Eastern Europe.

Toulouse, Agen, Biarrtiz, Perpignan, Castres, Montpellier

Never been to York either but always wanted to go, not least because my paternal grandfather was from there (or thereabouts). Visit to the Minster is a definite. Can't believe that Himself is actually coming too!!! Also, my sister, bro-in-law and a couple of close friends who have just got married in their senior (hem, hem) years. Going to be a gas. Must remember to set Sky+ to record, don't know what the TV situation in the hotel will be.

It sure ain't Castres or Montpellier staggy. Dunno about Agen. Les Toulousain can be pretty lively. Biarritz at San Sebastian has always looked special. Perpignan's Stade Aime Giral isn't known as 'The Bear Pit' for nothing.
Mind you, both Wasps and Munster have well and truly shut their fans up in the Heiny previously

Been to both Stade Municipal - which Toulouse use for the Heino and Stade Ernest-Wallon is pretty good. Clermont's ground rocks in the Heino. Its just the family atmosphere and the passion of the Agen fans that really struck me. Not a huge ground but a fantastic atmosphere.
The old Parc des Princes beat the lot, IMO.

Puma - in York, the Museum of British Life (summat like that) is worth a visit. It's near Cromwell's Tower. I found the Viking Experience a bit naff.
The river cruise wasn't bad either. Plus there are some classic pubs in York. In a pub near The Minster I had the best pub meal I have ever had. Barnsley lamb chops and three veg. cuffin' superb; I can still remember it now.

York is beautiful Puma, you'll love it. I think it's the Yorkshire Museum Hound's talking about, agree it's well worth visiting. Newgate Market is great for local produce, and then there is the famous Bettys Tea Rooms. Not the cheapest cuppa you'll ever have but definitely a York tradition.

The Tea-room/restaurant, in Bath Spa... (Pump-room) is stunning. Felt proper posh having my scones, pastries and tae, in a setting enhanced by a classical music trio. So grand. Not cheap but is so worth it.
I'll be back there for the Bath Leinster Heino game.
Us D4 types need our bit of culture and pampering, roysh?

Puma, if you are there for a few days take in one of the night-time ghost hunting walking tours. They're superb. I did the Minster once when I was there. Incredible place. Generations of the same families worked on there either building it or restoring it.

Thanks for the info, amigos. Hound, any idea what that pub was called? If you can bring it to mind, I know 3 fellas who will be in like Flynn - getting them back out will be the tricky bit. Knowing you, the beer will be first rate too! I really really want to do the BAth Leinster match, but it follows on from the weekend of a family birthday party in Newbury (Berks), which is a 3 line whip. Just not sure about crossing The Great Divide two weekends running. C'mon, persuade me.

I love the look on the face of the guy who finished behind the cheat but knew he hadn't been passed by him!
The guy was a bit of an eejit running a 10K the day before a marathon though I would have thought!
It is strange though as most runners do marathons for the self satisfaction, not the medal.

Puma,
check out the Shambles in York;that's the origin of the word,I remember going on a skool trip at the age of about 10,and the memory lingers.
Gibbo, how do you know the Pump Room is expensive,I paid
For French atmosphere,Agen is great, family stuff, kids and mums and grannies all over.Perpignan, like Toulon is one of those "Hate, whistle, boo anything not wearing our colours, especially the opposition and the ref"grounds, but I think the bark is worse than the bite.Castres and Biarritz have small grounds, and although YdManoir in Montpellier is large, they are only just discovering big time rugby.Brive's not bad,but the best must be Michelin, now that it's nearly completed,a proper 18,000 seater, with the crowd towering over the pitch.(I may be biased )
Scroll down to see the development, when all the angles are filled in, it'll be finished. There's a 2*restaurant at one end called 'The In-Goal"

That is if I was still breathing! Which is highly unlikely!

I don't like all this attention Wales are starting to get. It's making me really nervous, more than last week as this is seriously getting to the business end of things. But if you'd said before the cup that Wales would even get to the semi I'd probably have laughed at you.

MrsPenfro.
Forget all outside hype. Forget the past of Barry-John and Gareth Edwards. Forget JPR. They are ghosts, whose weight of history, has inadvertently held the Welsh rugby psyche back for eons.
This side is now. This Welsh side has the wherewithal to make a RWC Final. Something, the aforementioned Gods - never achieved.
What they have done up to now, should fill any Welsh fans cup to overflowing. Even the neer-do-wells. Now come the extras. Its all joy from here on in.
Believe. Credu.
Do it for Penfro boys!
