The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of pub regulars. We've got the big group pic from the HEC final in Cardiff, plus insets of ll those who couldn't make it
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Bore da pawb / good morning all.
This is all quite strange, not so much Wales being in the semi final of the World Cup (as unlikely as that seemed before the tournament began) but the national team being all over the TV (and radio). That never happens!

Cheers Rava
Lucky - it's not our last day altogether, just the last Friday we'll be working together, because I'm off for the next two Fridays and my colleague's taken every Friday off until she leaves.

Gooooood Morning!
walked passed so many people wearing their red tops this morning, really made me
Plus I've just seen a giant Carling truck outside the MS, so they're clearly stocking up.
Also looks like I might very well be going to watch it in the MS now. One of my best mates from back home finished his diss on Thursday, and he was going to watch the game with me in a pub as a celebration, but his girlfriend got tickets for all three of us, and it's her birthday today and I've not seen her for months so don't really want to say no!

Yeah Dreamer - another poster outside said he's on Level 6. I'm on Level 4, so hopefully I'll get a good view of the big telly.

I think Wales are the favourites now, but even so- it's France. I've picked France on SG but I really don't know. It's so hard to call but I had to pick someone... anything could happen in this game.
It's good that you are all enjoying it. These games, you have to enjoy them either way because they don't come along too often. Whether it's disappointment or elation you have to make the best of it and enjoy the ride.
That said, I'm sure you'll especially enjoy the ride if it continues on to a World Cup Final!

Exactly. Whatever the result, I'm going to enjoy the special occasion. I'll party like it's 2005 again

On the other semi-final, I think if there is going to be a choke for New Zealand it will be here. I think if they win this, they'll win the thing. BUT... I don't think they will win this game, I think we're in for another upset.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Notch, I definitely get the sense that the All Blacks' camp is feeling the pressure for this one - and that the Wallabies know it. They're down to their third outside half, their captain and talisman is playing but carrying an injury... but at home, and at Eden Park, it'll still take one hell of a performance from the Wallabies to beat them.

Notch - I'd really like New Zealand to win it....but I don't think Australia will be easy by any means. That should prove to be an exciting semi final as well. I'll be on my sofa for that in my jimjams though

blimey Kiwi, can't believe that made the headline for the Times in London! (my Welsh isn't brilliant so not sure if the 2nd sentence is quite correct, but who cares!)
How you feeling anyway? still struggling with the man flu or a bit better?

A lot better today thanks, Tues and Wed were awful while yesterday wasn't much fun, today I can breathe properly .
I did enjoy the last line of the Times piece
- cheeky (the rest of the article sings the Welsh team's praises though)The Irish, Scots and English wish their Welsh cousins all the best, just as the Welsh would the Irish, Scots and, ahem, English were their positions reversed

Energy firms' profit margins soar, Ofgem says
The profit margin for energy firms has risen to £125 per customer per year, from £15 in June, says regulator Ofgem.
So what will be done about it ?

Good headline there Kiwi. I posted what was on the front of the Western mail today on my FB...I know you're still off that?
Cymro - probably nothing.
I've just received £50 from work. It's in M & S vouchers. Will start Xmas shopping soon then

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Guys I need some help! I may have to head out to connecticut with work next month for 3 weeks and for 2 months in the new year.
Should I:
a) Tell them I don't want to go (a risky strategy given the current economic climate)
b) Try and get another job asap
c) Just feckin go and make the best of it
P.S. Good luck to Wales tomorrow

Morning all?
Rodders, unless going will have a huge detrimental effect on any family you have here I would say go!
It would be more difficult if you have dependants here but maybe not impossible?

Rodders, I'd say go for it if it doesn't completely mess up family life. For the 2 month stint, try and insist on getting 2 or 3 weekends (or better yet a ocuple of 4 day weekends) back in Blighty during it.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Thanks folks . I have tickets for Ulster - Clermont and might miss that
Also it would mean falling behind in my Yoga classes
I'm hovering between B and C at the minute and will have to see what happens over the next few weeks.
Has anyone been to Connecticut?

Rodders, Definately, definately C. Too many regrets this end at not taking opportunities when I was a lot younger. Treat it like an extended holiday and enjoy the experience.
I'll relieve you of the HC Tickets btw. You can keep the Yoga

Yeah I'm sure it would be a great experience. Thanks for the advice all .

Hound, was that at the Millennium Stadium? If it's the game I'm thinking of, Wales got off to a poor start and were a couple of tries down, things looking bleak, the crowd subdued. Stephen Jones (I think) taken off and Hook brought on, still in the first half, Hook's first act is to kick from his own 22 into Australia's, we win the lineout and excellent handling (especially by Gavin Henson, who gets the ball away just as he's about to get smashed) leads to a try for Shane Williams in the corner. The crowd come alive.
We lost the match, as I recall it - we were leading with not long left, Kevin Morgan's clearing kick doesn't find touch, Chris Latham runs it back and scores the decisive try.
Nope - try this one...Hook rescued the game. I watched it in a pub in Brighton on a birthday bash.

That's the match I was on about, Hound. My recollection was that we lost, but otherwise the old grey cells were spot on!
