The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of pub regulars. We've got the big group pic from the HEC final in Cardiff, plus insets of ll those who couldn't make it
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

No, not into boxing myself Kenny...their board always seems a bit mad on here too.
I'm going to watch a doco on the iPlayer now. Nos da pawb (night, y'all).

NZ all they way. It makes for best possible 3/4 Final and RWC Final. I also want NZ to win it outright now.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Not too many boxing fans in here Kenny.
I lost interest after Sugar-Ray retired. Best boxer Ive ever seen. Pound for pound like. Loved Ali & Joe Frazier too.
Too old for you man?
Nos das Cari & Glas.

Yeah I want NZ to go all the way. I was sort of leaning that way anyway, but yesterdays game just confirms it. I don't want France to win. They've been poor all tournament and got a pretty easy ride.
Though I predicted a France vs Australia final on SportGuru and despite the fact I've been either seriously neglecting or just not doing SportGuru since my postgrad started I still have a wee feeling about that one...
How is everyone?

Grand Notch.
I had Oz from the very start and I hope that happens. Best rugby team in it and we beat them - albeit without 3 of their best players.
France are now relaxing. Waiting & watching which team will get to join them in the Final. An extra day.
Also, NZ and Oz will beat 7 bells of shoite out of each other tomorrow. France were crap and still managed to scrape by a great Welsh side today.
France want NZ. Bad.
I want Oz to win it. If they make the Final, I honestly think they will. Not so sure about NZ. Tomorrow or - if they make the Final.

I think if NZ make the final they will win handy, but I've got serious doubts about tomorrow. McCaw is fit to play; can't even begin to say how massive that is. They need him to have one of the best games of his career. This is where the greats prove themselves.
It should be better than this morning which was quite a bad game in many ways. Really weird game.

RDS,
Yes it is painful watching for a Welsh fan. Even with 14 men, ye had 3 or 4 clear chances to win it. But hey. Got to take them.

Ah don't feel too bad RDS. You've got one more game to go and your team has done you proud. 3rd Place Playoffs are sort of the game no-one wants, but how often do you have a chance like this to take a SH scalp in the SH?

Yes Notch... I know, we have a 2nd chance.... but boy we missed a glorious opportunity today.... could have had a chance to scalp a SH in on the biggest stage... sigh sigh sigh...

Well said Notch. Wales can still take a SH scalp home with them. I think thats what Gatland should be pumping into em. Not now. But tomorrow.
Put it this way RDS, if you were offered this situation at the start of it all. Would you have taken it?
I would have bitten the Fickle Finger of Fate's hand(sic) off, for the situation ye are in now.
Hope that helps ease the pain man.
Credu.
Liking de music btw.

Thing is Gibbo, and I'm not one for blowing trumpets, I had a wager with one of my mates that Wales could have won this RWC outright. Note I never said we would, but could! Luckily for my bank balance I stipulated a win sequence of Ireland (sorry), England, NZ....
I'd seen enough bit part plays/games by Wales that if put together over 80 Mins would seriously challenge anyone.. but I'd never say it out loud!!!!!
In truth I suppose yes I would have taken it, but I was sure of so much more...
Still I will wish Aus a win tomorrow, a win for Wales next Friday, a win for Aus next Sat and a win for Wales in Dec,,,
So we will beat the world No 1 and the World champs in the space of 6 weeks or so... credu, credu, credu

Lock in!
I feel like I've done three days in one.
Watching the match this morning, plus getting most of the domestic crepe out the way, during ad breaks. Followed by the GP qualifying via teletext whilst having lunch.
Then I scooted over to the pub in Ealing for the Castres v Toulouse rerun on ESPN, plus the 2nd half of Bedford v Donny in The Championship on SS3. Why did Sarries let Don Barrell go - what a game he had!
Then an arduous trip back to Stanmore for beers with the local gang. Good craic it was too

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
like it Dragon.
Mighty effort from Wales yesterday with Warburton gone... and you still could have won. Sign of a great unit, you'll have many enjoyable years ahead watching them do very well. I could easily follow a team like Wales.
A bit like the quiet before the storm this morning... nice day for it!
Interesting to see the odds in favour of the ABs - fair enough, but I've got a strange feeling there's going to be quite a few points scored. I'm hoping we get just over half of them in the end!
I'm worried to death about Cooper doing something stupid and gifting 7 points but I can equally see someone else coming to the fore... Genia, O'Connor? and Pocock giving the master Mac a good dusting.
We've also got the first Trans-Tasman match on today - some great players on both sides. The Kiwis look strong even without Matai, Vatuvei and young Shaun Johnson and it wouldn't surprise me at all if they won.

In Truth, I never was for my country. But, then we beat a depleted Oz and had ye in the QF's. I thought... Wales.. easy. We beat them on a regular basis. Its clear all the way to the Final. Really. Man, was I wrong.
Thank you ye Welsh feicers!
Just enjoy the rest of the Show ye stole from us...

RDS,
The craic protects us from going even more doo-lally than we already are. Natural in-built protection mechanism. Also ensures we drink, laugh and sing our way thro it all.
I was Welsh today. It was a weird but nice feeling.
Still lost.
Its great being a Paddy. We have the poetry and romanticism to lie to ourselves beautifully. Time and Time again.
Joools!

I made my thoughts on France clear in here last night Munsty, so I won't go there then apart from saying that pre tournament I would have liked to see a new name on the trophy, but given who is left, that is no longer the case for me.

Diolch munsty.
aye saw the Scarlets result, well happy with that.
I am horrifically hungover today. Started drinking fizz at about half 11 yesterday and spent the day toasting the Welsh lads. Was the right way to go about it after the match I reckon, focus on the positives.
Especially Charteris, what a guy. I went to school with him, did you know?
(actually you know what, I think I'm still a bit drunk)
And ooo before I forget, radio 1 blydi interviewed me yesterday in the MS after Phillips' try. Not sure I made a lot of sense Being stood in the middle of the MS in such a big crowd after that try, was a really, really special moment for me.

Let's just say that what Dallaglio and Pienaar were saying about the tackling was "interesting". No doubting they were all flankers on the panel.

Yes Munsty, I am. Lockyers last game. I was a bit surprised at the score but they blew the Kiwis away.
I had another omen here yesterday - a big cockatoo landed on my railing. It was weird timing and I noticed how intricate the white feathers were.
I was with my Moldovan friend... she was pretty impressed. We hand fed it with a 'fruits of the tropics' museli bar. So funny, it took the pieces so gently with it's beak, then puts it in it's claws and eats like a normal person and just throws the left overs on the floor.
