The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing picture of newly retired Gareth 'Alfie' Thomas.
Also a special picture of Thomas Domingo and wishing him all the best on a speedy recovery.
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

I didn't realise in time Lucky, was a bit too to do anything but smile. I mean, it's not everyday you see someone like him walking past the cash converters in crappy Canton!
(is it past or passed? my brain has literally stopped working properly)

Mick - no galoshes sadly
Thomong - nope never met him before. Closest I've ever got was when I was 12, and we had this sort of fitness programme going on at school, and we were split into groups. Stephen Jones was there working with some of the kids, but he left just before my group reached him
I've met very few rugby players actually, just manage to walk past a lot. I wouldn't know what to say if I did get the chance to meet them properly anyway I don't think, am too shy!

It's past - but wash your mouth out, Canton isn't crappy! Well it's a bit shabby, but I like it.

Past. Passed would mean you passed the exam. Or you passed someone out in a race.

He is 24 though, a bit old to be making the breakthrough unless you're Sexton... Will have a decent club career. Could probably be the Jeremy Staunton of Leinster.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I don't think 24 is that old to be making your breakthrough, I mean Rhys Priestland is that age and he only came good last season. Guess different people mature at different rates. Would be a bit weird if everyone came through really young.

John Hayes was 65.
Wally was 24 when he made his Ireland debut too.

30 is about the time a prop should break through. 38 is not too old for a prop. More caps for Duncan Jones!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I heard that Stephen Jones lives around Pontcanna way, but I'm suprised at him frequenting Smack Converters. I live in Canton (the la-di-da part by Victoria Park, if there is such a thing) and it's not bad, especially if you compare it to Ely just up the road.
And the fact that loads of Ely people come down to Cowbridge Road East for a night out or do some shopping on a Saturday underlines how bad Ely is! LOL

Excuse me, I'm a Caerau girl, and I don't live up the stereotype you mention there - possibly cause I was brought up elsewhere after a certain age. But then again, nor do my brothers who still live there with their families. Canton high street (Cowbridge Road East) doesn't look any worse than you'd see elsewhere in a suburban part of a big city. I've lived in Canton for ten years and I like it.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
No no he didn't go in the shop! He was just walking past it!
Yeah I used to live just round the corner from Thompsons Park (nearish Victoria Park), lovely part of Canton that was, had the best waffle shop just a couple of roads away too, miss that I do. Got to say in the 3 and a half years I've been living in Cardiff, Canton has gone down hill a bit, but is still by no means one of the worse parts of the city, that's for sure!
Glas - Zulu is an absolutely brilliant film. One of my fave's.

You are yea Cari. I remember the clientelle in the chipper you took me to. Lets just say if I feel the need to go on the pull I'll just head down there instead of a nightclub and save myself the time and effort.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yeah but Caerau is different from Grand Avenue Ely, some parts of Caerau are really nice, and I agree about Canton I quite like living here, though the amount of chavs on the buses and hanging around the Goscombe or the Canton Liberal Club is a bit off putting.
Yeah my friend used to live on Egham Street just by Thompsons Park rugbydreamer - I think the only thing with Cowbridge Rd is the recession has hit so there's slightly less shops, and of course you've got the Leckwith Shopping Park.
Red Stag thats not the chippy on Cowbridge Rd West just as you come over the bridge into Ely, can't remember it's name but it's got a white sign?

That's true about the shops on cowbridge road Priest. Tis a shame really, but guess it's happening all over. Depressing to see so many run down places though.
Nice article on the Beeb with an interview with George North about how much he's looking forward to finally playing in a european rugby comp. Excited for Saturday is not the word!

at least Lovecrafts is still going strong!
Can't believe that North has played the same amount of games for Wales as he has for the Scarlets (and he's got a better scoring record for Wales grr)

Smirnoff I've not a clue really. It was near enough to Cathedral Road. Turn off that and walk bout 2 minutes to get there. It was pitch dark and I was merry after a few jars. Cari led the way.

that shop looks truly dreadful Priest! A lady I work with her car broke down right outside of it, she as mortified when she had to tell the car people who had to pick her up where she was.

I spoke to Kia a while back and told her that ALL 8 of her allocation would be taken up and NOT to send any back. These were the definites I mentioned at the time - besides Olive's 2.
Kia & Son
Chef
Asbo
Gibbo
Huggie
That's 6. I Know maybe Lucky, Dreamer and Prop wanted to go. But were not pushed if they could see it in a Bath Pub with the others on Tour.

This was back then Stag. Leinster were only allocated 1800. We best check to see if Micky T, Mickado and my Bro can do something.
I'll contact them. But, as far as I know - Kia still has two spare.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
ooooh I see.
Ah I'm actually sorted for Friday games so far this season I think (am persuading the old man to take half days so he can come to the rugger with me). On the Friday games I then just spend the weekend at home (that's the plan anyway!).
Plus one of Penfro and Mrs Penfro's really lovely friends is able to give me a lift back sometimes so I am a okay on the lift front for a change!

Gib, I have 2 as well, so make that 4 spare at the mo. Micakdo wasn't able to get any, but haven't heard from MickyT - would certainly be worthwhile to see if your bro took up his/any allocation? I'm also investigating local sourcesGibson wrote:Posted on FB just now:

Ah grand As. Covered so. I know Puma wants to come down from Perthshire for it. Leinster's biggest Argentinian/Scottish fan. Can we save one for her please?
I am ringing the bro to see if he can get 2. Maybe we can ALL go.

Right. KIA and gang are in the stand as they have sorted their own tickets via her brother. Penfro and his gang want stand tickets. I have two stand tickets and we are waiting for Penfro to decide whether he and Mrs P or his outlaws want then rather than have to dress Hughie up as 'Debra'. The rest of us are terrace bound. It's a blast. Good atmosphere, good view of the big screen and you feel part of the action. Really excited!
