The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing picture of newly retired Gareth 'Alfie' Thomas.
Also a special picture of Thomas Domingo and wishing him all the best on a speedy recovery.
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
What any good comedian should do is have the ability to take the mundance, the ordinary, the everyday and stretch it into the extraordinary.
I don't like Ricky Gervais personally. I don't like the British Office. I like the American one however.

I really liked the office I must say.
I like the American office too.
I think what he’s lost sight of is that really good characters are nearly always tragic losers, people don’t find you funny if you’re perfect which is the persona that Gervais gives off behind his glass desk while he’s condescending Karl Pilkington or Warwick Davis (is that his name?). he’s like a fella who won the lotto and is rubbing it in your face.

Just off the top of my head I would say some of my favourite comedy characters are:
Phil from Modern family
GOB from arrested development
Randy from South Park
Homer from the Simpsons
Ted from Father Ted
All losers.

I nearly think a false sense of grandieur makes them better such as Michael Scott in The Office and Father Ted.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
The best thing about the office was the two normal characters. The tragedy is that they were stuck with the others.
Victor Meldrew is not funny. What happens to him is like a daily mini scale Greek tragedy, flawed character is grumpy and spitful and gets a kick in the harse from the gods. It's the 'kick in the harse' that's funny.

Very much so - we've put out a strong team for this one, so a LBP is at least the goal Wat'd you 'settle' for from your first pool game?Rava wrote:As, I was thinking I would get a reaction from you after I wrote that. It's a big game for you. Happy with a LBP from this game?

I agree with you Glas. I think Clermont are flattering to deceive. I'm backing Tigers to be the team that impress in that pool,

You build me up and then smack me down!
Stag, Leicester are creaking, it's not the fall of the Roman Empire yet, but there are signs that their dominance of English rugby is not so assured.
By the way, interesting theory for you in a PM.

Yes Asbo, they are playing well up until now. I think they'll play poorly on the road and suffer in Europe. I don't think their domestic form will apply in Europe and I think the same for Tigers too.

Just nipping in, haven’t had a chance to read back, will do that a lunch time
Anyway, I LOVE RUGBY
Just booked our tickets for the ‘Homecoming/Shane’s Retirement’ International on 3rd Dec ember. Going with a couple we met in Martinborough whilst out for the RWC. They now live in London, but he’s a former Taranaki player and she’s American. Met them at the Tirohana Estate vineyard and arranged to meet up with them in New Plymouth as they’d be there for the Walesv Namibia game. Had a great time with them and their (and his parents) hospitality was out of this world.
December is going to a mental rugby month, Wales v Oz, the Big Meet and Munster v Turks in LImerick on successive weekends
Now, where’s that number for the Betty Ford clinic

What makes you say that? I remember a game in Dublin between ASM and Leinster that the D4s only won because the Clermont flyhalf had forgotten his kicknig boots? I think the universal truth that French teams don't travel well doesn't hold so much water these days?red_stag wrote:Yes Asbo, they are playing well up until now. Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
ERV rankings are making for an interesting read.
Leinster and Toulouse both top with 31 points, after this year we lose the scores from 4 years ago, Toulouse had 9, we had 2. Munster are only two points behind but after this year they lose 11. So the only way to keep on 29 is to win the HC. Leinster just need to get out of their group to improve their score.

French teams do travel well I think, or at least much better then they used to.
Perpignan when they played us in Y Parc last year they actually outscored is 5 tries to 4 in that match, we were just more accurate with the boot. There was nothing shabby about their performance at all anyway.
And morning all.
Had a lovely evening yesterday and am so blydi glad it's Friday! Roll on 5pm when I'll be on the train back West!

Morning all.
Just saw a trailer for Frozen Planet. Epic. I love that backing music too. I was after that when I heard it during the England v Wales Rugby League two weeks ago and I managed to Soundhound it at Wembley last weekend.
French teams do travel better now, but I'm still hoping we catch USAP cold on a horrible Thursday night at Dave next week. Unlikely, but dare to dream and all that jazz.
Munsty, maybe you'll be the next Bachelor on Channel 5?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think the RFU had to do something, or be seen to do something. Tindall wasn't the only one who was out on the town in Queenstown, but he was the captain and with that comes responsibility and accountability - I suppose that's the way they're looking at it.

okay two main reactions to this; Rob Gog injured - argh!! Liam Williams at full back?!?
I know he can play there, but for his first HEC start, at 19, not in his favoured position....blimey!

Mickado, the passport is so yesterday's news. It's a gimmick. I like Ricky Gervais shows his standup is poor not a guy suited to stand up. He does good work with Karl Pilkington, Karl is the main funny man in that but Gervais can be funny. Merchant is far better.
Would agree with the assesment that the misfit is the character we love on tv. Think George Costanza, Larry David, Ted Crilly etc.

Thanks for that info mate. Ulster are pretty much at full strength with the three doubts all being named. I think it will be a backs to the wall performance a la Biarritz last year. If we remain composed and take the opportunities that come along then I can see us getting a win.
Good luck to everyone's team this weekend.
