The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing picture of Micky T above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Morning
Lucky - thanks for the best wishes, and well done Dragons. Good result for your guys.
Well it's my last hour and a half here...hmmm what to do? Cleared me desk but I forgot the cleaning stuff - my keyboard is stinking from eating at my desk for the last eight years or so (oops!). Packed the last few bits I've to take home, had free breakfast in the canteen and some choccies off someone....I'm just going to pish about here I think.
Glas - I've no games with me, but I am in my scruffies

Just got back from a nice dinner out at my local with a builder mate, (an ex-North Sydney Bears player from the 80s) and who should we see sitting at the table next us looking very relaxed? None other than Laurie Daley with his wife and kiddies. Gave him a friendly nod and he gave the same back. He's so laid back.

I have to say fair play to Connacht - been dealing with them a lot this week; their fans, players and staff are a credit to themselves. The Ummm, was amongst them though he was talking to my boss not to me.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
At the risk of sounding like one of the tin foil hat brigade, or like an incessant whinger, I have just read the citing report for the incident where Joe Marler (Quins) punched Max Lahiff (London Irish) in the face in the opening game of the season. Lahiff was on the ground an unable to defend himself. Marler, had two previous citings for striking opponents within the previous 5 months. Initally given a 3 week ban, reduced on appeal to two weeks.
Really, really not happy.
There is no transparency to the disciplinary process and having looked at a lot of the RFU anmd ERC disciplinary stuff over the past few weeks I really do feel that we are getting the rough end of the stick.
It is probably noteworthy that we never send a lawyer to hearings, whereas a lot of teams do, and one of the reasons for Marler's ban being started at the low end, was that they successfully argued that it could not be conclusively shown that Marlers punch caused the injury to Lahiff's eye. It even gives that as the reason for low end entry in the report, so we are now clearly banning based on the consquences rather than the act. Whilst there is potentially some merit in this as people have often said that if a player is out injured for 6 weeks the offender should be banned for at least as long, I think it is a dangerous path to travel, and one where we may start to see injuries being feigned in order to get opposition players banned.

Lucky - you might be...would be funny though. When BOD got his 100th cap, the Guinness Supporters got loads of members to have BOD pics as their profile picture. Most people picked the most embarrassing bad hair ones.

Consistency is the thing, Pete. It's the same with referees. You don't mind if the ref is making some terrible calls against you, as long as he's also making terrible calls against the opposition so that it balances out.

Yes he was Captain of Australia, NSW and Canberra Raiders (3 titles) - one of the best ever in the sport. (Rugby League)

Morning all!
I just read that WofC thing.
Where's Ulster????
Surely we were 3rd in the ML last season?
Should we not have had a mention?

I logged into Fantasy Premier League for the first time in ages to see how I'm doing. I'm second in the Dew Drop Inn league - but a mere ten points ahead of Rev! Willy's first by a mile though.

I take it proper serious lucky. Still like 80 odd points behind the guy who's top of the 606v2 league. I may suck Ed Balls at sportsguru but I come into my own in the fantasy league.

That's it then, conclusive proof. As a seasoned SA drinker, he will have had his distraction strategies in place.

Ulster have been handed a major boost ahead of their vital Heineken Cup showdown against Leicester Tigers with the news that Paddy "the bridesmaid" Wallace is injured for up to 8 weeks.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Its tongue in cheek. I actually don't think Paddy is that bad. I'd start him in all 5 of Irelands Six Nations games along with Darren Cave.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I thought he was decent last week.
He was like a poor mans SBW with his offloads.
which is actually a compliment. I think it's time (better late than never) that he starts in the 6 Nations.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
The way I see it:
- Our best inside centres are either Wallace or Darcy
- There isn't much in the difference
- Our best outside centre after O'Driscoll is Cave
- Earls, Bowe, McFadden are options but don't play at 13
- Wallace and Cave are most settled centre unit we have
- We should play them.
12 Wallace, 13 Cave for Ireland

Stag you are in danger of removal from my Christmas Card list with your PW comments. He will be a major loss.
Ulster cannot really afford any more longterm injuries to senior key players if they are to progress in the league and the cup.

I'll rein it in Rava - I know the feeling on the injuries. Munster are missing Felix Jones, Keith Earls, David Wallace, Mike Sherry and Jerry Flannery - they would have all made the squad tomorrow.
