The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the picture of David Sisi, Jannie de Beer and Glen Webbe above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Sorry, call me what you want, I'm trying to muster sympathy for the victims of PIP implants who have had them privately done for aesthetic reasons. Sue the harse off the Harley Street bar stewards that did it and let them sue PIP!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
what happens when you can get a vodka & coke, a vodka & lemonade, and 2 jager bombs all for £6.30? A MESS is what happens.
Mental night but utterly brilliant. Stayed out far later then I should have. Just about to make my way to the train station to go to Y Parc. Hangover not properly kicked in, think it's waiting to strike when I'm on the train!
A big Diolch to Glas for the text updates last night. Huge congratulations to the O's and Ulster fans, the Ulster result especially is utterly brilliant, so happy for you all!

Morning folks
Watched the Ulster game when I got in from work last night without knowing the result. All I can say is, what a load of overhyped nonsense you lot are coming out with. Tigers were clearly not at the races in the slightest. Ulster just got lucky to catch them on an off day. Let's see if they can bring that performance to ASM next week.
I'm only taking the pi$$ sure I had them backed to win. What a performance Pienear just makes them a different class completely he was my man of the match. That game should rightly go down as one of the very best Irish performances in the Heino ever. The Leinster performance against Bath was total rugby but that Ulster performance just had something about it.
Court and Afoa controlled the scrum, Touhy and Muller couldn't be faulted. Henry and 1F well one word does it IMMENSE. Pienear unreal, trimble and gilroy like lightening, terblanche not to shabby for a pensioner. Absolute pleasure to watch.
My one criticim though is Bests darts, on a couple of occasions he over threw from a penalty lineout. Winning these penalties mean nothing if you can't secure your lineout ball.
And even though my intro was a pi$$ take it has one serious point. Can that performance be brought to ASM?? it'll be needed to get a result out there. I don't know of it can but it'll sure as hell be fun finding
SUFTUM
Hughie out!!!
Ps who backed Embra to win last night?? Cause I know I did

Not all in the same glass dreamer
Now that would be a MESS! Let's hope the rocking of the train doesn't cause
It looks like we'll be spending our €s in the Rovigo club bar before and after the game. The hotel is only about 1k away. This game won't be easy as Wasps have only just about got a squad together for this one. 7 guys starting who would not normally be near the 1st 23.

Oh God, my throat is killing me this morning! It's never taken such punishment before! Screaming is fine, its when you do it for 80 minutes...
I hear Paul Marshall got really over excited when he went over for his try! Gent that he is he apologised to the fans for that on twitter. Can't hold it against him; Doorsteps Deli were offering free sandwiches every day next week for any Ulster player who scored. They do mighty fine sandwiches boy. Mighty fine!
The game we'll really be watching today is Leinster vs Glasgow. A Leinster win would be big for us, guarantee tee us something out of this campaign unless I'm mistaken?
What a wonderful result for Edinburgh last night as well. Would be over the moon for them if they made it through.

Morning all,
2 coffees has just taken the edge off last night's after-work drinks, luckily I bailed out when the others decided to move pubs. I was home in time to cach some Ulster highlights on the late news, looked like a pretty impressive performance.
Hound, have a fantastic day! This is only the 2nd weekend in the last 8 weeks I'm not going to a rugby match somewhere, feels weird!
Sunny frosty morning here.

Need to dash to get little Ps where they need but did you see what Muller said to the lads in the changing room?
"This win means nothing unless we can back it up with something in Clermont next week."
I have no voice either and the temp seems to be back with avangence. Funny, I felt absolutely fine at Ravenhill last night!

NOTCH - TV GUIDE
NOTCH, MRSP, RAVA, WILLY ...etc awesome. Not a great result for ASM, though provide they get a TBP today, they'll need to beat Ulster by at least 6pts
HOUND - enjoy Bella Italia mate. You were correct Glen Webbe was the first black player to play for Wales - PROFILE. He played with my mate at Bridgend, his father has a fantastic singing voice

Rava, i still cant believe that Ulster got a TBP and won by 34 points.. I thought that they would win but that it would be very close. What a performance last night, Leicest seriously sent packing. The atmosphere must have been brilliant

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Back again.
Have to say that I echo what others have said about the Tigers supporters. Lovely people. The 2 in the same box as us were great, even when I handed them a tissue after Gilroy's try!
After the gane the bloke was saying that it was impossible to beat Ulster because they had 16 men!!! I was very surprised and a bit disappointed as he hadn't seemed like a ref whinger. Then he said, "Hold on!!! I meant the crowd!!!"
Lovely bloke.
Wish I could say the same about Cockerilll who was just beside us.
I also was really impressed with most of the Tiger players who were very gracious when the final whistle went. Murphy and Castro (not a fav of mine) in particular seemed very generous with their praise from the TV footage of the players shaking hands after the match.
Top Blokes!!

I know Notch.
I knew about it but forgot in all the excitement. I'm not sure if it was all the noise or because I was on the other side of the ground than usual but I couldn't hear a word that Michael the stadium announcer was saying!
Still, probably would have broken the flow to make too much of it. I'm sure he will remember his 100th cap alright!

So last night a guy went to hospital because of a cut he got on his head required stitches. They realised he was concussed so kept him in overnight.
On a rugby pitch, if a player is concussed, he is allowed to stay on the field of play.
That is the real danger in the game.

It is mental. Have you read about it in American Football?

Rugby needs to pull its head out of the sand on this issue, big time.

Munsty,
Have you seen the new IRFU recomendations about concussion?
Very specific guidance about handling it and returning to play.
Now, all we need is the coaches and more importantly the players to take some notice!

I have seen it Notch. Did a presentation on it before Christmas actually.
There was one instance in an NFL game where the Quarter back at half time was not able to answer any of the doctors questions yet he pleaded with them to play and they allowed it.

Its part of the sport but i do see that all players will forced to wear headgear in the future.

It's interesting that I scored top points in SG got the game and I predicted 12 points. My score prediction was 33-21. Totally amazed by the Leicester performance. They literally gave it up midway through the second half.

The trouble with that is none of the current headgear allowed in rugby has been shown to reduce the severity of brain injury.
They are good at protecting ears and scalps, but probably not brains.

Really? I thought the some of the headgear absorbed a certain percentage of a blow?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I've never seen any evidence that they reduce head injuries.
I think the kind and thickness of material needed for that would be dangerous for other players. If you think about it, even the hard helmets they use in American football don't completely protect against it although they would almost certainlty reduce it.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I suppose the energy from a blow has to go somewhere and while those head guards will dissipate it to other areas of the scalp, helping reduce skin damage, they can not change the deceleration that the brain undergoes in those collisions with ground or other players.
