The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the picture of David Sisi, Jannie de Beer and Glen Webbe above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Ruan Pienaar and Pedrie Wannenburg are both weeks away from becoming proud first time fathers MrsP.
(The succession plans are in place )
Pedrie Wannenburg has been brilliant when it matters- awesome last night, huge against Biarritz last year and massive in Aironi... but I'd say the IRFUs homegrown drive is going to see him off. No doubt if he was Irish he'd be on a long term deal to see out his career here but it looks like he will be replaced by Roger Wilson. Who is himself a quality backrower.
We were given dispensation by the IRFU to make some big signings a few years ago with the understanding that they were short-term measures to make us more competitive in Europe. Target achieved- we've done well to get them to let us extend Johann and Ruans deals. Think we might have to wave goodbye to Pedrie.
Hope we can send him out on a high...

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
A lot of Ulster supports were laughing about Pienaars extending his contract for another 2 years would ensure that the weeun they are expecting is IQ.
Turns out the child is due long before his contract would have been up anyway and less like to play professional rugby than Daddy . Although, things could change. In 20 odd years we may have a profesional Womens team.

Pedrie was fantastic again last night. Back to the highs of last season and probably surpassing them.
When I was watching the game back last night/this morning I kept having the thought, " Jerome who?"
Wouldn't be so disappointed if Kaino doesn't want to come, so long as that means we can keep Pedrie!

Maybe the dad Tuilagi might have schooled some of these Perpignan players, Mrs P! Although in fairness, I was expecting us to have a hiding tonight and we haven't done too badly.
But 15 v 13 for ten minutes, even away from home, you'd expect points on the board, surely?

True.
And as Rava and I were discussing last night, the boost that the other side get when their players come back without having conceeded is immence.

@ Lucky. I would love to adopt that for Ulster but I doubt the fans would have the capacity to learn it

Blackburn Rovers. Playing with 10 men for most of the game and still win 3-1. They didnt lay back and defend. They kept attacking in waves and got their reward for it. Great to watch. Magnificent.

Now there's no beating real R & B. Just no beating it. It's the truth revealed.
And now you can say you were there when those Ulstermen (with the odd signed-up Saffer) showed how rugby should be played.
And it's a simple game. Good backrowers have gone insane trying to rationalise it. Here's an example - watch the blindside:

Evenin all, sorry once again I got sidetracked by good oul blackadder, god almighty what a great show, but anyway, so what are the chances against Clermont? this heineken Cup thingy is all about fine lines and is no different in Ulsters group!
And after that by the way? if Ulster top the group does anyone have any idea who the quarter final opponent would be? or who it would be if we were one of the best runners up for that matter?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Ooooops, sorry Monster - was getting carried away there.
Ulster have a chance against ASM no doubt about it, not a great chance in all honesty, but if they turn up as ruthless and determined as they were last night, they won't need more than half a chance to put the scares on Clermont.
I can't wait for it to come around, it's my pick of the weekend.
Go West!

Evening all
Have missed all the rugby today as at work and am still here dealing with a job. Good job, which we will hopefully get a good result on, but I am knackered and really just want to go home now.
I see Munster are definitely through, is anyone else confirmed at this stage?

Munster only at this stage Ozzy, Leinster are in if they get over the Firhill speedbump tomorrow, otherwise it's probably Sarries and then 5 others from a possible 6 or 7 I think.

Not yet Ozzy bud. But I expect Leinster to do so tomorrow. Sarries could make their trip easier without quite sealing it.
Its rare, that too many QF spots are decided by the 5th round. Its what makes this comp great. The last 2 minutes, of the last few games, in the pool stages, can change things so dramatically. Love it.

Ah hard luck Prop. Ye were brilliant . Made the wrong decisions when ahead. And in attack also. Could and should have won it.
Well done Cardiff Sarries!

Yeah I heard the Irish v Blues game wasn't up to much. Have recorded it and will watch it at some point. Such a disappointing campaign for us really.
Anyway, I've had a look at the current pool standings and done some quick maths and I reckon the quarter final line up will be.....
(1) Leinster vs. Ulster (8)
(2) Edinburgh vs. Cardiff Blues (7)
(3) Toulouse vs. ASM Clermont Auvergne (6)
(4) Saracens vs. Munster (5)
If it does pan out like that then there are two big games there, and two absolutely massive games.
Love de Heino!
