First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the picture of David Sisi, Jannie de Beer and Glen Webbe above the bar!

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Sorry but i have never said that headgear would totally protect players, i just counted the point that they were of no protection. Whats me wearing one whilst driving got to do with anything that i have said?

What can be changed about rugby to protect players from head injuries? I think next to nothing as it is a contact sport and is part of the game.

What can be done is to make the regulations on concussion more stringent and to not allow players who suffer from chronic concussions to take the field because that can be life-threatening.

I didn't say you said they offered total protection.

Not sure where all the ... Erm ...is coming from.

I am just saying that the protection offered by rugby head gear is not useful in preventing (or reducing) concussion.

I used the analogy about driving to show that the level of protection offered is not any help in deceleration injuries.

Teams have a benchful of substitutes. There's no reason why a concussed player should play on.

Thats another thing entirely Notch. Thats an off field rule. I am talking about on field changes.

Personally i feel that players who take a big knock to the head should not play or train (full contact) for at least 3 weeks.

Yeah, you're right. We can't wrap players in cotton wool. We just have to make sure we handle it right off the field and that players, coaches and everyone else at every level is educated about it.

My apologies then MrsP but i did find your comment of me wearing one whilst driving to be a tad condescending. My point is that headgear is designed to absorb and dissapate blows. I have never said anything about them being fully protective but they do offer some protection.

Players who take a knock to the head should be removed immediately from a game.

No condescension intended Billy.

Sorry if that was how it sounded.

I just meant that the level of protection is inconsequential as far as concussion is concerned and I think the manufacturers are careful not to claim any.

I think Rolland started very well. He yellow carded a Saints player in the first few minutes.

TRY Scarlets. Priestland cross kick for Iongi. 14-3 conversion to come

Clermont really putting a number on Aroni. This could affect us adversely if it comes down to tries scored.

Tries scored in this game won't affect the battle between us and ASM as we are in the same group.

I think.

It will be on the head to head between us if we finished on the same points.

I think they use the total tries scored to decide between teams from different groups.

Jeez, they're not up to much after all then. Sure they've only just brought on Aurelien Rougerie from the bench. Exposing the lack of strength in depth there.

He looked like he was hoping he would wake up from some impossible nightmare or that his superhero powers suddenly had failed.

The ERC needs to look at that game in the light of that scoreline.

Allowing Clermont and Aironi to play each other at cricket instead of rugby is clearly unfair.
