The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the picture of David Sisi, Jannie de Beer and Glen Webbe above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Well I saw the last 10 minutes of the game and I'm not incredibly disappointed I missed the rest of it. No intensity and stupid mistakes.
Also, those who were talking about concussion earlier and talking about american football. Notch you said they take more precautions in AF they do in their hole! One player Mike Vick got a concussion in the 2nd quarter of a game and played in the second half and still played the next Sunday. Also the headgear in American football is a huge problem it causes concussions. Mainly because you would see guys getting hit in the helmet or ramming eachother with helmets. Make sure you're fully aware of the situation lads.

Really love to see Embra do it. Nothing against Blues, just love to see a Scottish side make the QF's. Would be a great lift for Scottish rugby as a whole, going into the 6-N.
Better be careful what I say... Warriors waiting.

I think I said the opposite
The only time I mentioned AF was to say what a tragic affect it has had on the sport and said rugby needs to learn from that.
Make sure you fully read the thread!

Now Asbo, Embra have the eginflew of a team that can go to the strongholds of Europe, turn them over and run away giggling. Any team that can leave Ross Rennie on the bench is some fifteen!

So Munster thru, Leinster pretty much guaranteed, Sarries likely thru too and 5 from Ulster, ASM, Quins, Toulouse, Blues & Embra

Well done Munster. Not at 100% and still 5 from 5. Impressive.
No one wants to meet them in Thomond. Or anywhere else for that matter.

Rosco played last night, lucky, got the first try'n'all - subbed off for Roddy Grant, the ginger destroyer, around 65 minsluckless_pedestrian wrote:Now Asbo, Embra have the eginflew of a team that can go to the strongholds of Europe, turn them over and run away giggling. Okay then the speed reading didn't work. Also I think this talk of how great Ulster are is a bit over the top they haven't and probably won't even make the QF and I have heard them being talked of as potential champions. They played very well but Leicester were tripe.
Also Niall Ronan's injury will have a bigger effect then people think.

It's a bit of a WUM and a bit of the truth you know it is. Why would I be bitter? 5 from 5 in a group that doesn't feature an automatic 10 points, is pretty amazing.

Thats an odd thing to say Thomond... Ulster have as good a chance as any team in winning this. I have been suprised by there progress but thay are playing some very good rugby. Didnt they also beat Munster not long ago?

And that's it, Asbo: Rosco Rennie would be most team's first choice flanker, whether blind or open. If Edinburgh can spare him, they're not doing too badly!
As: who would you have as you first-choice half backs in the Six Nations?

The Munster B/C team yes. Don't get me wrong I'm not having a cut off Ulster, they are a legit threat but I think some of the stuff I have heard in the press today is a bit over the top. Could you really see them beating a Toulouse/Leinster? (Munster wouldn't either just for the record)

Thom, isn't it funny how when Munster win it's all about them yet when Ulster win the opposition are Poopie. Oh and that does include the recently vanquished opposition.
You will be telling us next that you haven't actually seen the game.
If you are on the WUM, as you tend to be then you got me. If you are being serious then I can only think your'e throwing up a smokescreen to hide the fact Munster are now effectively the third best province.

You're from Munster; bitterness is your oxygen. Can't live without it
Leicester were made to play like that. But two years ago they wouldn't have capitulated to be fair. Amazingly, we played the game at a pace they couldn't cope with.
I think we need something in Clermont to go through, we'll know where we stand as a team after that game. It'll be a more realistic game to assess us on. It's the target of this group of Ulster players to win the Heineken Cup though- they've said that multiple times. I think we need a home quarter-final to do it though, and that looks unlikely. However I do think we can win it within the next three years.

There's the rub. I think we would beat either of them at Ravenhill, I would go on record as saying I wouldn't fear them in Belfast. But not quite at the level to turn them over on the road. Yet.

Very few teams could have lived with Ulster last night. Even the best sides in it - ASM, Toulouse or Leinster. I wouldnt worry about Munster. Too one-dimensional...
Quins will give anyone a game. They have the lot.

Ulster were fantastic Rav , I said that,in fact I likened them to the old Munster teams working like dogs hitting everything that moved with a solid pack/scrum with a little more backline flair. It doesn't excuse the fact that Leicester gave away 2 awful tries and another poor one. They did shut down Leicester but it is nowhere near the Leicester of 10 years ago and not near as good as the last Leicester team to get to the HC. Ulster took their chances and full credit to them. Let's just reel in the hype a bit. You go to Clermont next week and get a bonus/win then we'll talk.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I am a Munsterman Thomond and want nothing more that another HC but credit has to go to Ulster.
I watched the Toulous game today and they are beatable.
As for Leicester being poor? Well yes they were poor when the game was over as a contest. leicest had Ulster under massive pressure in the first half and Ulster showed great composure to see it off and put points on the board.
In short, i do believe that Ulster have a chance, possibly the same chance as Munster.

That's the thing Notch? It was only 2 months ago that Ulster were in "crises" or so a load of people on here said. Have Ulster moved out of it completely? Ulster were amazing last night and put pressure on Leicester but it's one game. Next week shows us if they can do it.

But what is wrong with having some hype. The performance merits it.
Certainly this time next week we could be looking at a QF in the Amlin and that would be grand, but while there is still a possibility of qualifying for the HC quarters then I for one will wallow in the "temporary" glory. Doesn't happen often. You guys have had you turn now it's time to move over.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Touchy, touchy
I think losing four on the trot is a crisis including at home to Treviso, and we turned it around. Leinster suffered a similar thing when Schmidt started
I haven't been throwing any hyperbole around anyway so cool your Japanese Jets! I've been saying all along, way before last night, that a) we would win comfortably over Leicester and b) we would probably end up in the Amlin.
Besides, the whole reason I'm a rugby fan is to have fun. I think we will have our fun and then move onto looking forward to ASM on Monday.

It's actually five 5 point wins in the last six games. It wasn't the Ulster fans who were calling it a crisis by the way

I'm sooooooooo not happy with the 80th minute this season.
Some good results for the Rabo gang though, so well done all concerned.

A sure enjoy it lads. It is a great tournament the HC. Let this be the start of the Ulster bandwagon! You'll be playing games in Windsor Park there will be such a demand for tickets.... (not a hope in hell as there would be some consternation as they say)
Rav for a team in decline and with as difficult a group we're heading to the 1/4s..... Also our injury list includes: Flannery,Wallace, Sherry,Howlett,Jones. So missing the leading try scorer of all time for the ABs and missing one of the best Irish backrows of the last 10 seasons has hurt us a bit.

A LBP next week, will seal it for Ulster. Well within their capablities. If they play like they did last night, they could take ASM all the way, imo.
I was down there last year with Chef, when Leinster got the LBP. Should have beaten them, but the BP was precious. They knew what it meant at the time.
Its an unforgiving place to go. Superb stadium and their fans are unreal.
I want the 3 of us in the QF's. Be fantastic for Irish Rugby. Then see what happens.

Thomond my hat is doffed to you mate. I think you have been incredible to be 5/5 this season. If/when Ulster can match your intensity and sheer will to win then I can see me talking seriously about winning things.
By the way Notch, just so you know I was the only one in here who publicly stated we would get a TBP. Ask Billy
