The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of John Hayes, Craig Gilroy,
Niall O'Connor, Ben Skirving and Jonny May above the bar!

After the way Ulster pumped the Tigers, I doubt Sarries will look forward to meeting them in the semis.

Sarries will be facing the mighty Leinster, Hughie's second team.

Oh Id so love it if Ulster took Munster loike we did in 2009.
Then, they could really say they are the 2nd best province in Ireland.
A Changing Of The Provincial Lower-guard methinks?

Would you Irish guys and gals get more satisfaction beating one of the other provinces in the final or would you prefer it to be a non Irish side in the final with you ?

Is Hughie being a Munster or Leinster fan this week?
Actually, I thought he was a Chiefs fan now no???
Cracking weekend of rugby action. Pleased for Edinburgh, they played the best rugby in our pool and deserved to get the home quarter.
Just watched Les Mis at 25 on BBC 4. Love that show, have seen it in the theatre about 6 times. Love musicals.
How is everyone this fine Sunday evening anyway?

evening Ozzy, yep Edinburgh were good value - Scored plenty of tries and were very entertaining throughout. The away game against Racing was pure theatre for me - Les Mis not withstanding of course.

The 2 and a bit months is a very long time to wait. So many things can happen to players between now and April. The banter in here will reach fever pitch by then.
Just a suggestion... but if the HEC is the best comp in the world then why don't they get it over and done with in the next few weeks and push out the 6N to start in say mid Feb?
Just seems odd to have such a long time in between drinks.

Metro certainly provided entertainment PJ.
Gutted that's it for the Heino action until April, and I am now completely unashamedly jumping on the Ulster bandwagon and backing them to storm Thomond and knock Munster out.

Breaker. It does interrupt it. Anyone on a roll and who have qualified well, just before the 6-N, have to get that roll going again after it.
Some, with players missing after it all.
I think that's yet another test, which makes the HC so great. I love its format and its timing. Just my opinion.

I did notice them good old Irish names BJ O'Botha, Lifeimi McMafi in the Munster side as well T.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I posted on here earlier about combining the best of the four provinces games in the HEC over the passed few weeks for Ireland in the 6Ns and we would probably win the GS (performances of Connacht v Quins; Ulster v Tigers; Leinster v Bath; Saints v Munster).
What I want from Ireland is Connacht's tackle rate. Random thought occurred to me this morning and I have just been and looked at the Connacht Quins stats here
http://www.espnscrum.com/heineken-cup-2011-12/rugby/match/144342.html
Connacht made 159 tackles of which three were missed. That is a shade under two tackles per minute given an 80 minute game. But …
There were 7 kicks at goal taken which used up to 7 minutes
18 scrums, let’s say 1 minute each – 18 minutes
22 lineouts, let’s say 30 secs each – 11 minutes
5 restarts (after scores) at, say, 1 minute each – 5 minutes.
This would give a grand total of 41 minutes of clock time in which the teams were not “playing” and therefore no tackles could be made. This brings the Connacht tackle rate up to 4 a minute or one every 15 seconds.
If all Irish teams tackled at that rate, we'd win everything (except the Amlin cause we have no team in that or the AP 'cause we have to let the English win something ...)

Yeah Gibbo - makes the eventual winner even more special I suppose.
Mrs P - thanks for the night shirt. I slept wonderfully.
(so what are these multi-tasks you mention which are so important that the rugby has to be put on the back-burner for a few months? Start of school term, marching season, complete your wall-sized SUFTUM tapestries, etc?)

Touche Ozzy!
We have to have few like. Isa being the only one we really need. But, we are very big into Equal Opportunidees for foreigners at Leinstuuur. Oh yes.
But Ulster & Munster are takin de pish. In fairness. Be nice to see a real Irish team win it eh?

Me too, maternal great GP's from Enniskillen. They shipped out to Canterbury in 1865. Have the letters they wrote back home to their families in Ireland telling them to hang tight for a while... see how things pan out. They did pretty well in NZ of course!
