First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of John Hayes, Craig Gilroy,
Niall O'Connor, Ben Skirving and Jonny May above the bar!

Cheers Rodders. Thankfully I am not part of todays interview.

Mrs P. thumbsup I 'll do my best.

Billy, one of the Architects Firms that I do work for has won the bid to take the Ravenhill Re-development through to completion. This will be the construction of two new stands at each end of the ground in Phase 1 and then the demolition of the old main stand and construction of a new one in Phase 2.

Yes, Munster have earned the right to true home advantage. I always assumed it would be in Thomond; no way are the Munster branch going to want to play anywhere else.

Sorry for this next bit folks - She'd felt a bit unwell after the tube was down her throat and had been sick, but not brought it up. Later, back on the ward, she coughed and brought up a small bit of blood. They sent her down to x-ray to check it out, but it was al clear OK

Going down to Pembrokeshire to visit straight after work, I'll feel better when I've seen her myself. Will pass on the messages, show her Rava's text and play her Gibbo's ansafone message he left on my mobile - that'll make "Mammy" Very Happy

Luke Fitzgerald's hopes of featuring in Ireland's Six Nations opener against Wales appear over after he was ruled out of the Irish Wolfhounds squad for Saturday's game against England Saxons.

The Leinster wing continues to be troubled by hip and neck injuries.

Munster's Simon Zebo has therefore been called up to the Wolfhounds squad.

Starting Hurley at wing ahead of Zebo would be so frustratingly pointless and self-defeating, so I suppose we can expect that to happen.

I do think that Leinster have developed something of a Scarlets mentality in relation to "winning in style".

They used to play great rugby but always come up short and I think the "style" thing was an excuse they would churn out to make defeat easier to swallow. We all have our own ways to make defeat easier. "Id rather lose with style than resort to winning with 10 man rugby" is a common one.

They then developed their game and became a very successful team winning lots of trophies. Now the mentality is that they should be able to marry the success with the style.

Personally I couldnt give two hoots about metrosexual rugby. Its a mans game and results driven. Once the team are fully committed I am happy.

Aye, but truth is if you can pull off stylish rugby it's the winningest rugby. That's right, the winningest rugby.

Leinster want to be the best in Europe. They aren't going to be playing like Munster in '06. Back in '06, yes, that would be fine but right now you need style and substance.

Glas, it isn't a WUM at all. What could possibly be a wind up there.

Leinster used to play off the cuff running rugby and come up short.

Then they played a more "boring" game under Cheika and win.

Now they are trying to win AND play running rugby. Style and Substance. "boring" rugby doesn't satisfy a lot of Leinster fans.

It is no more so if Scarlets won the HEC playing 10 man rugby. They would want to develop and try to win in style.

So Ulster Rugbys big announcement; Ravenhill is to be expanded into an 18,000 capacity stadium with the additions of stands at both ends.

I hope we cut prices for the Pro12 now, because we only are getting 8,000/9,000 for these games thanks to 7.05 kickoffs on Friday nights (might as well put up a sign saying "F*ck you, people from outside Belfast") and the ubiquitous TV coverage of home games.

We need to be getting 14,000/15,000 to maintain the atmosphere. Empty seats on TV will damage the grounds reputation as a fearsome venue to play at, damage us as a Province. We need to get more people through the gates.

That's my point. The Scarlets would not play 10 man rugby, in any circumstances, to win or not. They are going to sign Cai Griffiths FFS! Who but a team hell bent on 15 man running ruby would do that! The Scarlets faithful want to see them win and they want to see running rugby. They will not accept one without the other. If that consigns them to HC quarter or semi finalists at best every year then so be it. As long as we beat the Ospreys...

Notch, we won't get 14/15,000 at most Pro 12 games but with the added capacity we will be able to cater for the additional demand that HC and Interpros bring.
In saying that we won't always have to compete with the BBC.
Oh and it's a myth that Friday night rugby is for Belfast people only. The furthest away can get there in around one and a half hours. If they really want to be there they will be.

Yeah, I know. But I really think they should try and sell the tickets at the end stands dirt cheap for less glamorous games. If we can get the ground relatively full for less glamorous ties you can bet it will push demand up for everything else. The added capacity gives scope to try lots more promotional things without losing money. Would like to see that exploited.

It is a myth indeed, and I have no problem with it living in South Belfast, but 7.30 or 8 is definitely easier. Surely it would take a bit longer from, say, Letterkenny or Monaghan? I don't really know how long things take.

Yeah but you've got to factor in getting home as well. Bring back 3pm on a Saturday!

Then I couldn't go to any Ulster Rugby games if that was the time Crying or Very sad

If you're going to do Saturdays, do evenings.

Personally, I would prefer to have them spread the games across Fridays and Saturdays. I think there could be more co-operation between the leagues and the Ulster Club to try to leave some Saturdays free of local rugby and allow those people to choose if they want to watch Ulster play. If you see where I'm coming from.
In saying that I know quite a few people in our local club who have no real interest in Ulster Rugby outside of looking for the result on the telly or in the papers.

The one advantage of not playing Pro 12 matches at three o'clock on a Saturday is that it allows people who play rugby at that time to watch their region or province.
