The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of John Hayes, Craig Gilroy,
Niall O'Connor, Ben Skirving and Jonny May above the bar!

The football has distracted me from reading. Cardiff are such a frustrating side to watch!

Yep - looks great when it's full doesn't it?
Cardiff should be 3-0 up by now (3-1 on aggregate). One chance just wide of the post, and the other came off it!

Right. Just finished watching Treviso v Saffacens. Trev denied a try by the TMO, apparently for blocking Saffy defender. Is this not outwith the remit of the TMO? Thought they were only able to rule on legal grounding over the line? If the ref (and ARs) didn't pick up any illegal play short of the line, then ... tant pis as would say. Or does it not work that way.
And WHEN are the dates for the QFs going to be decided????????????

Blues won't move back to the Amrs Park, Rava, I don't think. Just can't see it.. Arm's Park would need a lot of work done to it first.
The weird thing with rugby at the CSS, when you are down under the stands by all the food and drinks outlets the crowd even if it's only about 7K can sound really really loud, but when you are sat in your seat it's jsut so quiet. Reckon you need minimum of 12K for it to start getting better. Just a shame it's just too big for the Blues, as you can h ere tonight, it's a cracking atmosphere there when full.

They could still use CCS for big games.

Puma, I would expect that they will be held on the Saturday and the Sunday as it's Easter weekend and neither Aviva or Thomond will want it on Good Friday.
If you are coming over you should plan to get in early Saturday and leave late Sunday. That way you will be sure of catching the game. Speak to Gibbo and he might be able to suggest accommodation

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Thanks, Rava, I was pretty sure that Leinster/IRFU would not be wanting a Friday match, but if it was to be early afternoon Saturday, for instance, getting to Dublin in time would still need (a) start at sparrow squeak (b) arrive on the Friday. Similar logistical problems for a Sunday game. My finger is hovering over the 'purchase' button for arr Fri/dep Mon flights just to make sure all bases are covered, given that dub/edi/dub flights are far more thin on the ground than I would have thought. But all would be much easier (and less expensive!) if they would just say when the match is going to be played

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Puma, I have looked at Archive news from last year at the same stage. The dates were announced on the Wednesday following the weekend of the last group games.
Two matches were played on the Saturday with respective kick off times of 16.30 and 18.00
Two on the Sunday kicked off at 14.00 and 17.30.
I might just be worth waiting until tomorrow. I did check the ERC site but they haven't said when the announcement would be made.

You won't have to wait much longer, dates and venues to be confirmed tomorrow morning. 10am tomorrow apparently.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Brilliant! Thanks for the info lads.
So. Just watching Biarritz v Os, Balshaw's try. He is broght to a complete halt over the line before he can ground the ball. Then he manages to get it onto the turf. TMO gives the try. Does 'no second movement, held in the tackle' only count in the playing area and not in goal? Where is Stag when you need him?

Sounds from that like he made one movement? You are allowed to place the ball.
Does anyone else feel that the Munster website has made a very mischievous choice of picture inset to compliment the paragraph on Nathan Hines' antics?

I think it's a try as long as he gets it down without having to move closer to the try line.
Wrestling himself over so he can ground it is fine I think.

Puma, if a player is tackled and completely halted close to the goal line he may stretch out to score the try.
Notch just slightly.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I know it was cheating and at the time I was yelling at the telly but you do have to have some grudging admiration for someone who can hold onto Stephen Ferris and Pedrie Wannenburg whilst sitting on Dan Tuohy!
Some strength to hold back all three of those lads at once!

BTW just found out at an absolute MAXIMUM I will only be able to get my hands on two Munster v Ulster tickets. More than likely just 1.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag. he was completely over the line, in the in-goal area, brought to a complete halt without being able to ground the ball. Wriggles free of his tackler, then puts the ball to ground. If that had been on the field of play, it would have been 'second movement, no try'. Is there a difference? I'm betting that there isnae.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
My take on it (having not seen it) is that ref should have given a quick whistle, held up. It certainly isn't a penalty. It is either held up or else a try.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Cardiff & Palace go to pens. Funny feeling, having been outplayed the whole game, Palace may sneak it.

Hopefully we will be able to land two tickets in the priority booking period for season ticket holders.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Notch, as I understand it season ticket holders are fine.
I don't have a season ticket as it doesnt suit me to attend all Munster matches. Season Ticket holders in Munster will all get 2 tickets. Rest of us go on a waiting list.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Really? But 2 per season ticket (for Ulster fans I mean) is about 10000 tickets? I.e. way over our allocation! I suspect it may be one per season ticket.
If we can get you extra tickets, we will.

Evening tafarn.
Cracking evening for me - great company and laffs in my local. I may be given a Saints v Munster programme from the weekend's game if anyone wants it.
The '6 from 6' game as my mate from Kerry put it. He buys the match programmes, but doesn't collect them. A PM will do if there's any takers.
Off to zzzzz now.
Nos da.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Im not a big fan of match programmes. They hold little sentimental value for me. Two of my most special matches I ever attended were Ireland v New Zealand in 2001 and Munster v Gloucester in 2003. I have programmes to both somewhere but really they don't mean much to me despite me remembering the matches themselves in vivid detail.
By contrast a colleague at work has every match programme for each game he was at and every programme for the local matches he played in.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
My son-in-law has all the programmes he has bought.
I'm not a collector but I do buy one at nearly all the games.
The more special ones I tend to give as gifts.
