The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Jonathan Davies (JD2), and all of the weekend's 6 Nations debutants above the bar!

In which case it comes down to the question asked. If Clancy asked "Is it a try or not" - if there is any doubt a try can't be awarded.

He did, Staggy, "try or no try" rather than "is there any reason ..." - why would a ref decide to ask the one question over the other?red_stag wrote:MrsP wrote:It was a strange one though as from some angles it looked like a pretty definate try and from others it looked like a pretty definate no-try.

Try or not try = I haven't a bloody clue
Any reason why I cant award try = Im fairly sure he scored but better safe than sorry.
Personally I think its silly to have two questions and highly inconsistent.
The example I am fond of giving is 2007 Six Nations.
Scotland v France and Elvis Vermuelen goes over the line. Craig Joubert asks "Any reason I can't give the try".
If he had asked TMO "is it a try or not" Ireland would have won the Six Nations that year.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Difficult to answer Stag without being in camp, but something just didn't look right out there.
It looked almost like a nervousness with some of them, as if they were scared to try something different.
I also think the back row for Ireland lacks a bit of balance. It's ok when you are on top and can blast away lesser teams, but when they get matched for intensity as they have done now in the last two meetings with Wales, they don't seem to be able to find another way to work.
Sexton also looks a shadow of the player he does for Leinster. I can only assume that his light is being diminished by the shadow of ROG which looms large over everything he does.

Ozzy,
I feel O'Gara should have started the match BUT I think it was the wrong decision to bring Sexton off when he did.
What I did NOT like was that during one of his kicks at goal they showed ROG on the big screens at Aviva.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Sexton was taken off with 5 mins to go and he had his shoulder strapped Stag. It wasn't premeditated move.
Oh and on the ROG thing, they showed ROG on the big screen after Sexton missed a kick.
MrsP - it was Simon McDowell on the TMO that day, he gave a fair enough answer, but the question was crap.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
As – with the non-try I would think that Clancy deemed that advantage was up as soon as the ball was kicked. Either that or he forgot the advantage in the scramble for the touchdown. However, I wish there was a consistent approach from the IRB and referees in terms of when advantage is over. It does differ considerably with each referee.
This is an extract from Ben Foden’s interview in yesterday’s Sunday Telegraph. It is his view on the Rennie tackle...
“The tackle on Ross Rennie was probably the most important. When he broke through, I could see him sizing me up. But then he took a good look at me and then looked away. So I decided I would take up his ground and I hit him before he got the pass away. My shoulder was in to him and the ball hit my arm and went forward.”

Hound, that could well have been the case, in which case I would've expected to hear him call 'advantage over' or similar - I worry that he just forgotHound_of_Harrow wrote:As –with the non-try I would think that Clancy deemed that advantage was up as soon as the ball was kicked. Hi all, good news. Keith Earls' daughter has made it home from hospital. Earls is joining the Irish squad for training, with sessions set to be "behind closed doors".

Great news on baby Earls!
Also great to have Keith back in the Ireland camp.
We could really do with a big robust centre at the moment!
WillyG,
When I got my first car, it was very old and had more Isopon than body work, a bit like Gibbo actually but I digress!
Before I was allowed to drive it my dad made me take off two wheels and put them back on again! Good skill to have. Although now you need one of those power wrenches to loosen the wheel nuts!

Here's the still photo: http://www.planetrugby.com/gallery/story/0,25928,9825_7485317,00.html - difficult to be conclusive from that. However, the key is in the footage: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/16891095 . Something (pressure from Laidlaw's wrist?) checks the ball's forward momentum, until Foden's chest clatters into it and carries it along its prescribed path. Hmm, curiousMrsP wrote:Yeah,

Asbo! Straws and clutching spring to mind.
Its like the Ferris tackle - can be viewed either way and depends on the colour of your shirt. (Or if you're a chunky sort of a guy from Norwich )
It's all Robbo's fault anyway. Him and Deccie need to catch the same train......

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Has Bradley Davies been 'officially' cited then? The Beeb's article on it is very strange, says that he's been cited but then says the citing commissioner has until tomorrow afternoon to submit the citing. So technically that's a 'no' then is it?
BTW why has it taken this long?
Also someone mentioned a punching incident during the Ryan Jones 'no try' in the first half, anyone see anything?

I'm guessing that the citing officer has 48 hours to look at all the evidence and produce a report but I doubt he needed 48 seconds to decide on that one.
He has probably said it is in his report but that hasn't been submitted.
Dunno though really.

To be honest you would hope not but then again we did have Pearson describe pretty much the IRB definition of a straight red card offence and then recommend....

Evening. If Pearson had a clear view of the incident you wonder why he didn't recommend a straight red under the protocol for the offence.
The citing committees usually publish a full account of events, so we'll have to wait for that. It might be that Pearson will get suspended too.

Yeah,
That shoulder charge by Phillips on Bowe was terrible too although not in the same league as Davies.
Was that on Pearson's line too?

MrsP several incidents went unpunished from both sides going in with the knees shoulder charges and the list goes on.
I think everybody has said that Davies deserves a lengthy ban and no doubt he will get one.
There will be several other talking points by the time the 6N is over.
