Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of

Reddan, Sexton, Zebo, McFadden (or Wallace or anybody but D'Arcy), Earles, Bowe, Kearney.
Yes, it really is that simple.

And Cari!
I hope you are prepared for the fact that any deficiency in Ireland's play will be Tommy's fault next season!
Heaslip and Darcy dropping the ball was Trimble's fault too. actually, how many times did Heaslip get turned over today? And wasn't that the daftest penalty to give away by Healy? Now, if that had been Paddy Wallace????

I was expecting Best to take the flak for POC not being able to catch a perfectly thrown throw-in but deciding to overlook the repeated failings of Gordon Darcy to pick on an Ulsterman AGAIN is just too lazy.
I suppose the scrum improving when the front row changes were made was because of Reddan???????????
Same old same old same old nonsense!

What Glas said. Or even McFadden at 11 and Wallace at 12 if Kidney can't be that bold.
But at this stage, tinkering with personnel feels futile. The Irish team- in very stark contrast with all the provincial sides- do not execute the basics of back play. We have instructions to run straight and then the forwards come round the corner. No-ones running support lines, it's merely the supporting players role to hit the ruck. No offloads, no decoys, no changes of direction, no umpredictable lines of running. The odd bit of individual brilliance is what we absolutely rely on behind the scrum.
We end up with the ball carrier drifting wide should he ever want to beat a man- we go lateral instead of getting any continuity.

Notch, you are a Scarlet fan in the making.
Your midfield is dire. Earles at 13 needs a playmaker inside him, put him in the gap and he'll do the rest.

Wallace is recently playing great stuff for Ulster- McFadden in likely the short-term future of the position. Would be happy enough to see either start against Scotland.
Six day turnaround and the same XV have started two test back to back, going to be some changes in any event. Feel like O'Brien and Trimble are being made to look worse players than they are by a maladjusted gameplan but both will probably be dropped.

I thought Notch had a gammy leg? Didn't realise he had lost an eye?

Why is Trimble there? (thats not a slight on him) You might as well put Coughlan out there. All they want is someone who can tackle and be tackled.

Part of the one eyed thing is that any loss is the backs' fault for not scoring more tries.

If Paddy Wallace had dropped that ball there would be calls from the south for him to be castrated. On top of those already calling.

Well, as wingers go- he can do that. Don't think Zebo or Kearney Jnr. or McFadden will do better. It's hard to excel without the ball as a winger.

Totally agree with this.
Once again I was reminded of watching the wee fella's U14 team today as the back line drifted across the field before passing to the wing who had 3 defenders waiting for him and about 3 inches of pitch to work with.
But it's the wing's fault!

Yeah. It's just... every year this. There's only been 1 or 2 times we've played France since the 2007 RWC where we've been genuinely outclassed. The rest of the time we've just let them off the hook. It came as no surprise to me at all. I knew at HT we'd simply try and defend for 40 minutes and possibly lose as a result. It's very typical.

The only thing that will cheer me up is if we announce his signing this week. Also if we renew Pedrie W's contract. It's my birthday next week, and as a consequence I have to go and watch the Ireland backline in Dublin- perhaps to hammer home the existential despair of missed opportunities that come with age. So some good Ulster Rugby news would really help!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I went to see Wales play New Zealand when Henry gave Shane one of his first caps. The All Blacks were drifting and he got tackled all day. Now I know Shane was desperate to put boot to ball, but the game plan was to take contact and set it up. The problem is if the All Blacks tackle you, they won't always get a turnover, but will get every one that's on.
Coaches are killing the game with their conservatism.

Evening pub, I think it's really nice how they let Rory play with the grown-ups, even when he's kicking their collective arse.
Hell of a talent.
Also, just watched the 6N game and have to say well-played Ireland, but what the hell happened at halftime?!
I really thought they'd do the business today.

Somebody put a bloody mirror in the dressingroom. The Irish guys saw their reflections and realised they were Irish men in Paris. There is an ongoing investigation into who brought in the mirror.

Morning all,
Enjoyed the Ireland game yesterday. We could have won but I'm proud of the effort.
Had a wonderful time back at home. It might have been short but it was the best trip I've has back to Ireland. Plus whenever I get to see my grandparents it always makes me feel a lot better.

Morning Munsty Good to hear you enjoyed you trip back home.
It was a good game to watch Munsty, although our second half performance ranked among the poorest from a constructive point. I hope there are a few fresh faces in the team for Saturday.

Well done Rory McIlroy and the Irish provinces and female team ..... at least the weekend wasn't a total disaster.
Thankfully some Irish sportspeople and coaches have a winning mentality rather than a losing one.

He wasn't a happy man Glas. Can't blame him. Hes been stifled by the game plan and then he gets subbed when that lazy feicer Heaslip does nothing for the umpteenth game running.
He was just starting to get go forward ball from Reddan when he came off too. Looked like he was going to throttle Deccie.

The problem with Kidney is he feels it necessary to empty the bench without always making the correct calls. I can understand SOB's frustration at being replaced. He was having his best game for about a year. I didn't think POM made any difference this week.

A footballer type head shaking and swearing to himself, ripping his scrum cap off. That sort of thing. If the players lose respect for Kidney he's had it.

Don't think so. This was easily his best performance since last years six nations. I agree with Glas that Heaslip should have been the one to be replaced.

Fair enough Rav, he’s probably browned off with Kidney for making the sub. I don’t blame him for being annoyed but I wish he didn’t make it public.
Off topic folks, but does anyone remember what kind of unbeaten run Quins went on at the start of the season? 14 games or something?
Leinster are now unbeaten in 20 games, with a 14 game run in the league. If they beat Ospreys at home in a couple of weeks they’ll hold the celtic league record.
