The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Georgia
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat. The pub has ventured to Georgia, because rugbydreamer wants the Scarlets to find a nice forward out there.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of birthday boy Hughie, Chris Budgen, Leo Cullen, Brian O'Driscoll, Paddy Wallace, Tomas O'Leary and a red faced Ronan O'Gara on the wall.

Can you give me an idea of expected/required word count.
Hi Rava, I've had a quick look and my Super rugby previews run to just over 1500 words, which is on the long side. So anywhere between 500-1200 is grand. Any links you can dig up for pics of the course/players saves me and Adam loads of time when "typesetting" too. Otherwise I can give you access to the writers section tonight, and a quick overview of how it works then (busy day at work today)
Cheers Kiwi . No hurry as I'll have to get a draft done first. I'll keep in touch though and let you know how I'm getting on.

Why to Munster get to have a team in the British and Irish Cup? Shouldn't the Irish clubs compete as clubs?

It's their A team Lucky, I don't really know why they do to be honest. But it seems to work well, I would wonder how AIL teams would do.

Would have been better to have had a bit more notice of where that game was being played. Few Crosskeys fans going that want to book flights. Shame it's a Friday night too. Bit poor for a club final.
I think I'm managing to watch RAF v Army this afternoon. The RAF will get a stuffing, but at least I'll see some mates. Off on a different job tonight then. Some of you might want to be ready to wave at me later
I had a personal best on my bleep test today. So happy. Only meant to do a basic pass, but thought I'd go further. Could've done more as well, but settled for just having a years peace. All that smoking and drinking on the weekend obviously helped a treat.

Awful news about Lloyd Burns.
So it looks like the final of the B&I Cup is 17:30 kick off isn't it? Even more of a farce. Way to give people a chance to watch it.

Afternoon all, quiet in here.
Just watching Ireland's Grand Slam Journey. I've watched quite a few sports documentaries and this one has to be right up there at top. The production quality is absolutely fantastic and the story is told very well moving between the first four games and the final match against Wales.

Army must be about 60 up now. Their Fijians are making all the difference, running in scores from everywhere. Seen some mates though and starting rugby training again for my station soon.

Rev, one of the Resident Battalions in Ballykelly a few years ago (Cheshire's?) had a large Fijian presence. A couple of them actually played senior rugby for City of Derry.
They arranged a few games against the local clubs but there weren't many return fixtures

Just to add if anyone is interested in watching any other sports documentaries, two I'd reccomend would be, from the ESPN 30 for 30 series, Into the Wind and Once Brothers. Two really beautiful stories.

I've just listened to this interview.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/17678560
During it the interviewer asks Mallinder if he is worried about the game,
"....in view of what happened to Calum Clarke in the LV final..."
Nothing happened to Calum Clarke!!!!
Something pretty terrible happened to Rob Hawkins at the hand of Calum Clarke! How can an interviewer have such a twisted view of that event that somehow Clarke becomes the victim?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Georgia
Well, the rumours were there today, and it's now been confirmed.
Stephen Jones is leaving Scarlets for Wasps
I don't know rugby without him. It was horrible enough when he went to France for two years, but he came back to us, and I'd have loved him to have stayed with us until he retired. Ah well.
Going to be so weird seeing him playing in a Wasps shirt (although I hope he has a get out clause if Wasps do end up in administration - as such a big club when I was growing up, I really hope that doesn't happen to them!)
Diolch am bopeth Stevo, a pob lwc am y dyfodol. (Thanks for everything Stevo, and good luck for the future).
I am one very upset Scarlet

Munsty, if you're into sports documentaries, watch "Straight Outta LA" or "Catching Hell".They are both apart of 30 for 30, and both on youtube. First one is the links between Gangsta rap in South Central and the Oakland Raiders (they were in LA back then) The second one is this, straight from Wikipedia. The one on Andrés Escobar, who scored an own goal for Colombia in the World Cup, which ended up knocking them out. He was subsequently murdered. (It's not on Youtube but I could probably find it for you)
"In the eighth inning of Game 6 of the National League Championship Series, with Chicago ahead 3–0 and holding a 3 games to 2 lead in the best of 7 series, several spectators attempted to catch a foul ball off the bat of Marlins' second baseman Luis Castillo. One of the fans, Steve Bartman, reached for the ball, deflecting it and disrupting a potential catch by Cubs outfielder Moisés Alou. If Alou had caught the ball, it would have been the second out in the inning, and the Cubs would have been just four outs away from winning the National League pennant. Instead, the Cubs ended up surrendering eight runs in the inning, giving up the lead. They went on to lose the game. When they were eliminated in the seventh game the next day, the "Steve Bartman incident" was seen as the turning point of the series"
Also NFL Films, do absolutely brilliant documentaries about each team that wins a Super Bowl and everything else (It's called America's game and they are all on Youtube). Even if you're not into American Football it's great. Would like to see something like that done for HC winners. They are shot similarly to the Grand Slam Journey Doc.
for Dreamer, I thought Wasps were in Administration though?

It's not nice when a favorite player moves on, especially when it's not a move that will enhance their career.
I really hope Wasps can get themselves sorted out.
I presume he is looking for more game time or do you think finances are the reason?

They aren't yet Thomond, but there's a big risk of it.
MrsP - not sure really. Finances probably have something to do with it, but then Stevo has always said he wanted to try his hand playing rugby in England. Tis probably a mix of a lot of things.
We do have Owen and Jordan Williams coming through at 10 behind Rhys P and Aled Thomas, so we do have the cover there, but man he's a big loss. Although guess more fro what he bring off the parc now then on it.

Yeah I've seen America's Game. It's good if quite cheesy and very over the top at times. I prefer the ones they do actually on the teams that didn't win.
Seen the Escobars one. Very interesting but those ones I mentioned I thought were the stand outs mainly because of the stories they were telling.
Not surprised Jones has moved but I don't think Wasps will be the right fit for him or him for them even.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Georgia
There are a few more 30 for 30s I want to see but they are hard to come by. Thre is one set on June 17th 1994, ( opening day of the US World Cup the day OJ Simpson tried to run from the Police, NBA finals day, Palmer's final round of US Open golf) Have you watched all of them? Due to the success of the original 30, they made another ten I think. I wouldn't be interested in a lot of the sports on there but they are very well made documentaries.
America's game isn't that cheesy, some of the guys who do it are great characters. I thought the "Missing Rings" series was pretty good and there were some other very good ones. It's great to see teams who have been terrible for so long win the big game, they do great work on those ones (2002 Buccaneers for example)

Anyone know if they made a doc on the 1988 Dodgers run? Holly wood couldn't have scripted that - or the 1991 MLB season for that matter!

Dodger, I don't think they did. The one on the 95 Rugby World Cup sounds interesting but I haven't seen it. Here's a list of all the stuff that's been done. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/30_for_30
