The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Dar es Salaam
First topic message reminder :
Hamjambo. Karibuni Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat. The pub has ventured to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to visit pub regular MBTGOG on his big trip there. Maisha marefu! Afya! Vifijo!
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Sir Fred "The Needle" Allen, Aberdeen Shikoyi, Isoa Damudamu, Chris "Mossy" Patterson, Nathan Hines and Simon Danielli. The poor defenseless IRB referee's jersey draped over the dartboard is fair game though

Alright?
We lost something like 32-15. I came on at halftime when it was 22-3 or so. Game changer. Not bad for my first game. I am happy with how I played.
My legs are frigged after an hour on the coach and an hour and a half driving to Wales.

Sounds like a tough evening there Rev. Get the limbs sorted. A (vodka and) ice bath might do it.
Good luck bud.
Zzzzs time for me - need to be at a conference by 8 tomorrow morning.

Absolutely destroyed myself at football tonight. We play on astroturf and I went to slide in and block a shot and I've taken about 7 inches of skin off my leg. It has been said I'm prone to exaggeration but I'm fairly confident I'm going to need surgery.

Bore da pawb / good morning all - I hope I haven't missed the boat for a , Billy!
I watched the final session of the quarter final match between Ali Carter and Jamie Jones last night: Carter lead 12 frames to 8, needing one more frame to win; Jamie Jones got it back to 12 - 11 before losing 13 - 11. It was the most enjoyable session of snooker I've watched in ages, it was all going on. If you get the chance to watch highlights, do it. It was such a great advert for the game.

Never too late Lucky
It was a great day of snooker yesterday. Today I seriously hope that Matthew Stevens gets into his stride quickly against Ronnie

In other news, I took the pup to her second training class yesterday. I arrived at half six, so I took her for a walk down this country lane and back to kill a bit of time before the class started. I got back to the centre at about ten to seven and was a bit surprised to see all the other dogs and owners already there when I went in. One of the instructors took me to one side and it became clear that I should have been there for six, when the class actually started. I won't forget again!

Lucky, I used to be an avid snooker fan back in the days of Reardon, Higgins, Davis, Thorburn etc. I just can't get into it any more, but I admire your enthusiasm
In other news, my work PC crashed (again) last night. No warning, just froze then wouldn't restart. Off to the computer doctor this morning so hopefully everything will be OK. I really must get an external hard drive and back up to it. Would save a lot of anxiety

I got rather lucky in the final half hour (finished with a flush*, a straight, another flush and a 3-of-a-kind to go from low chip position to win when we got to the final 3). But I've played in 3 tournaments at work, for a 5th and 2nd and a 1st placing so maybe there is some skill involved.
*I should have folded 2 and 3 of diamonds but i was tired, hadn't had a decent hand in ages, and was guaranteed 3rd place and £20 profit at that point

Mrs P I hope the Council can get things sorted for a screen.
Good job there aren't too many like Davy Browne around though
However, longstanding UUP man Davy Browne was the only elected member to oppose the proposal. He said: “I would ban it (rugby) if I had anything to do with it. I think it is barbaric.”
Kiwi , by holding on to a 2 & 3 I sense there was more luck involved, no?

You know what I watched Invictus last night for the second time and I dont see why there was so much negativity about it.
I think its a great movie.

Can't bring myself to watch invictus. Have the dvd in the house.
The 1995 RWC was one of my earliest Rugby memories and watching a movie about it would destroy my perception.

Ah yea I can understand that Rodders. I think that its a good story, its feelgood and I think it does a good job in its portrayal of rugby. Its no more unrealistic than Rocky is with boxing or Escape to Victory is about soccer or the Might Ducks is with ice hockey.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Dar es Salaam
From a reliable source. David Wallace will announce his retirement from rugby tomorrow.

Invictus is a decent film, except for the incidental music, which is like the music off Dawson's Creek. It's a great story and it's told well. Matt Damon is really good in it.
I bought a Dragons bumper sticker last weekend, only cost me £1.50. The only thing is that it keeps coming unstuck, which is annoying because I asked specifically for a non-symbolic sticker.

Not better than Rocky!
I just can't see Matt Damon as Pienaar, I just wouldn't be able to and to me theres no way you could dramatise or capture the impact Lomu had on that tournament.
There was just so much drama in that competition. Rob Andrews drop goal against Australia, Lomu destroying everyone, Chester Williams playing for SA, Mandela wearing the Boks jersey.
I just can't bring myself to watch a dramatisation of it when the actual memories are so vivid.

Rodders I dont think you need to watch it so. I did not follow rugby during 1995 and 1999 RWCs.
Rev - thanks pet.
Oh Munster Rugby just tweeted the D.Wallace thing now. I thought I would be more sad than this. He is a major reason that I am a rugby fan. He played for same school and club as me and was an absolute role model.

Aw man! Really sorry to hear that. Absolutely superlative player. One of the best Irish players, or any player, of his generation for sure and a go to man for Ireland for many seasons.
In fairness he had a fantastic career and should have no regrets.

Really sorry to hear about Wallace.
All that work to get back fit and then to have to retire must be tough! How much did he get to play since his return?
Rodders,
Invictus is a great film if you remember it is not a film about rugby but rather a film about South Africa which has the WRC as it's setting. The rugby scenes are poor I thought but it is still a great watch.

It doesn't help the film that it was a tryless final. An exchange of penalty kicks doesn't make for thrill-a-minute cinema.
