The Dew Drop Inn ERC 2012 Commemorative Pub, Dublin
First topic message reminder :
Sláinte and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat. The Pub has followed the victorious Leinster team home after last week's Heineken Cup final for a liver-busting celebration.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the picture of the late Simon "Human Windmill" Pitney or those of all the HEC and Amlin Cup finalists.

Well in consolation I did get to WUM the Leicester and Quinns fans on the train earlier
"good afternoon ladies and gentlemen the next stop on this service is Twickenham. Please alight here for Twickenham stadium. However we are all aware that the real final was last week when Leinster were crowned champions of Europe for the third time, but enjoy your day out anyway"

You didn't?
Did you?
Class!
Absolutely cracking day here.
Gymnastic comp in the morning then straight to Athletics comp. Just home. No lunch.
Had a nice wee chat with the new guy in charge of recruitment for our academy though.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn ERC 2012 Commemorative Pub, Dublin
He'll probably take a wee while to get back to his best if he hasn't been able to train since the Six Nations. Expectations shouldn't be too high for him at the start of the season at Ulster, it will take him a wee while to get back to top form. Short-term he has a lot of conditioning work to do now to get back to the level of fitness and physicality he had before and obviously he hasn't done much work with the ball either. But the break will do him good long-term.
But going by what I've seen Ulster Rugby and their players post on facebook/twitter in previous pre-seasons, if he's fit to take a full part in that from the start he is in for a world of pain. Fitness will not be an issue once he's done!

I reckon a wee rest will be good for the fella.
Wouldn't want him taking too long getting up to speed though!
We could do with not wrecking our season before it begins like this one.

Yeah, we need a good start. But with Tom Court and probably Ferris out of the NZ tour, Paddy Wallace and Tommy Bowe also not travelling, Paddy Jackson not going to the U20 RWC and Johann Muller and John Afoa done with international rugby we have a strong core of experience thats in the squad from Day One and most of the guy in key positions present.
The only worry is Pienaar might be selected for South Africa and obviously Trimble, Henry, Best, Tuohy will be missing.
I'm actually glad Ferris has this new calf injury in a way; blessing in disguise if hes ruled out of the tour. I think it would be ludicrous to send him on that tour when next season he'll be aiming to be fit for;
1) Ulster Heineken Cup campaign
2) Autumn Tests and Six Nations
3) Lions Tour
I genuinely believe he might even get to play a few games in the Pro12 next season if he gets the summer off. Hopefully from the start of the season.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn ERC 2012 Commemorative Pub, Dublin
oh God my delayed hangover has just kicked in. Ych.
Almost finished packing up my things though, and am starting to feel even more about it all fitting into my dad's car.
Going to stop now for the rest of the night and just get up early (ha I have to be up early anyways as my dad's getting here at ridiculous o'clock) in the morning to finish things off and do the hoovering and things.
It's too warm to be moving things around now!

Ferris is out of the NZ tour.
So we could be without Cave, Tuohy, Best, Trimble, Henry and Pienaar due to international commitments Even then we might be able to start the league with a team like;
1) Tom Court
2) Nigel Brady
3) John Afoa
4) Johann Muller (c)
5) Lewis Stevenson
6) Iain Henderson (or Stephen Ferris or new NIQ)
7) Ali Birch
8) Roger Wilson
9) Paul Marshall (or Ruan Pienaar)
10) Paddy Jackson
11) Craig Gilroy
12) Paddy Wallace
13) Nevin Spence
14) Tommy Bowe
15) Jared Payne
16) Niall Annett 17) Paddy McAllister 18) Adam Macklin 19) Neil McComb 20) Robbie Diack 21) Ian Porter 22) Niall O'Connor/Luke Marshall 23) Adam D'Arcy
Thats way stronger than last year, and it's a worst case scenario except for injuries. Hopefully we will have a new backrow signing but he might not arrive until October/November. Hopefully Ruan Pienaar will not be involved in international rugby this summer and will be around from day one. Stephen Ferris will benefit from a summer off! He could be around and hopefully fit, so that would be a big boost.
Genuinely excited about that team and next season. It's a good balance between top class experience and talented youth.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn ERC 2012 Commemorative Pub, Dublin
In September. Only just started applying for jobs. Will crack open a bottle in celebration... when I actually get to an interview!
Hope I don't end up like my cousin, who has been rejected from literally hundreds of jobs and unemployed for the last 18 months. I want to keep living here in Belfast, my home. I just hope it's possible in the short term. Others I know are going further afield. If I want to do something in my field a) it's a really small industry thats not necessarily hiring so, er, good luck and b) I would have to leave NI.
Hectic right now had my final performance exam for this semester yesterday, but after a deadline for the paper about that on Monday I'll have a week off. Sweet! So maybe get some time to think about that.

What else do you have to do exam wise?
Or is the non-performance stuff a dissertation?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn ERC 2012 Commemorative Pub, Dublin
I have to submit all the written work pertaining to my performance. Then in the summer, I have my final project. I'm doing a portfolio of creative work as opposed to a dissertation. I'll be developing modular electroacoustic compositions tailored for live laptop performance.
At this stage, I don't think doing copious amounts of written work is that useful for me as I have no real plans to go on to do a PhD. Getting down to the brass tacks with some programming is more useful. Likely nothing in this MA will be of direct relevance to what I'm doing for work after this, more feeding into my creative work post-Masters.

Cari, my eldest sister is home from Aus at the present time. She has been there since she got married 44 years ago. She has been home a few times and it's always great to see her. Yesterday was probably the first time though that I spent time with her on my own. She's 9 years older than me and has a fantastic memory. Passed on some fantastic stories last night.
Gibbo and I had thought about doing a bit of the Lions tour next year. Don't think it will happen. She was going to put us up in Brisbane if we had though.
When you do come to Belfast I will be more than happy to take you to the Titanic Experience. Just think its brilliant. Up there with anything I have been to in any part of the world.

My godfathers. If you think Jedward are bad, check out those Russian grannies. They might look like sweet little old ladies, but they sounded awful. So far, I'd say that Iceland could win this. At least they can afford to host it next year I suppose.
Rava - I'd like that, I think it'd be interesting. I fancy doing one of the black taxi tours as well. I'm glad you enjoyed your evening with your sister anyway. I speak to mine every week, but I never see her as much as I should.

I didn't Cari but I'll look out for it.
I have no time for Eurovision. Not the same since Terry Wogan gave it up. I do think Ireland chose Jedward to make damn sure they weren't hosting it next year.

It's this conversation in here that reminded me of it! Every Eurovision... they absolutely nailed it with that episode. Right on the money.
It's actually a hilarious song and video, especially with Dougals wee glances aside to the camera and the random table tennis, but no more ridiculous than some of the real entries
