The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
First topic message reminder :
The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in the host city London, where we can watch the greatest athletes from all four corners of the globe compete in a multitude of Sports under the one thousand flame Olympic torch... each wearing the 5 coloured Olympic rings of blue, white (or black), red, yellow and green.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius" (faster, higher, stronger) has been the motto for the modern Olympic Games since their beginning in 1896.
(but not too high obviously!)
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Marcus Aurelius, Henri Didon, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, Sir Steve Redgrave, Cameron Van De Burgh, Marianne Vos, Murray Rose, Jesse Owens, Emil Zátopek,
Zara Phillips and her fabulous horse "Toytown" and last but not least.... Boris Johnson playing whiff-whaff against Danny Boyle.

I am sorry to say, but I don't like Bolt.
There is something to say for confidence which is an inner belief in your own abilities, and well then there is what he does.
In fact Icompare his behaviour to that of Phelps, it is worlds apart.

You would have to think Jamaica will walk the relay as well.

Bolt is just something else isn't he? In the first 50 metres or so he doesn't look anything special, but then nobody can get near him. He is supremely talented.
Also, Powell gets injured in the race and still runs 11.9 or something. Which is faster than most people could do fully fit.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
So my favourite 105kg weightlifter (Akkaev - Russia) has been injured, and needed emergency surgery on his back on monday (allegedly). I nearly cried when I heard he was out! However, he apparently might still compete. Which is both stupid and admirable. No idea if he is going to go for it or not, he says he is, but I mean getting surgery a few days before a Weightlifting competition in the Olympics is a bit crazy.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
A quick stop from the beach to say Bolt, a legend. Slow starter he wins the race between 10-30 and strengthens from 30-50. Andy Murray congrats lad, took it to Fed and beat him, didn't see it but he sounded dominant. I like the lad, great player just can't back him due to the feicing media hype does my head in. Still he can beat the big guys in 5, that should give him great hope going into the USO. Turn it on when it matters Andy!
Also John Joe, you freaking hero, outstanding footwork, nimbleness and maneuverability he boxed clever didn't get involved in a brawl and hit the Mexican well. Thought the shot that knocked him was borderline low punch but doesn't matter. He looked comfortable and thought he could have won by a few more. He can get to the final.
Saw some lifter go down Rors, looked feicing awful getting into it a bit but beach volleyball is where it's at! Enthralling stuff from Kessie/Ross and the Czechs

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
Did anyone expect GB to do so well in these Olympics? 3rd place right now behind China and America, for medals won.
Congratulations to Murray also, I missed the game but my parents said he was very good.

I thought it was achievable Rors, they have the numbers, money and infrastructure to succeed. Not too surprising similar to Beijing yet with more to come. Great stuff lads and lassies. Keep flying that flag. Go on team GB

Mangold I think was competing some serious lifting going on it's kind of a hybrid between a squat and a front row lift (might be a different name to others) decent stuff remarkable feats of strength. It was women.

You would like to think so Biltong, I think he is a great player has the talent beating a big gun in a 5 setter will hopefully give him some strength. The media hype puts me off him a bit but I admire him as a player and seems like a decent lad.

Thomond, I think he must be taking a lot of belief and satisfaction out of this win after the Wimbledon heartache.
He won in straight sets didn't he?

It was a great performance, I didn't think he had it on him, but I'll take back anything I've said. As McEnroe said, the USO looks very interesting...
