The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
First topic message reminder :
The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in the host city London, where we can watch the greatest athletes from all four corners of the globe compete in a multitude of Sports under the one thousand flame Olympic torch... each wearing the 5 coloured Olympic rings of blue, white (or black), red, yellow and green.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius" (faster, higher, stronger) has been the motto for the modern Olympic Games since their beginning in 1896.
(but not too high obviously!)
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Marcus Aurelius, Henri Didon, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, Sir Steve Redgrave, Cameron Van De Burgh, Marianne Vos, Murray Rose, Jesse Owens, Emil Zátopek,
Zara Phillips and her fabulous horse "Toytown" and last but not least.... Boris Johnson playing whiff-whaff against Danny Boyle.

I saw Missy Franklin being interviewed earlier tonight; I'm not so sure that's her name, more of a reminder I reckon.

Evening Swanny, I've been loving these Olympics so far, but the athletics in the big arena are the real make or break for a "successful" games as far as I'm concerned.
Here's hoping.
Particularly good use of the word Mellifluous, by-the-way.
CJ - I apologise for my part in the punning I managed to bring it to a new low, but Missy Franklin is no joke bud, have you seen... err... her? I think?

Plenty more medals for team GB lads. Enjoy it, it's one of the few times you will be able to enjoy an event like this in your back yard and you're performing extremly well. Team GB are having a superb games and there's more to come. Believe and all that.

Ah-yup! Standing still and shooting helpless chalk discs.
He even had the good sense of theatre to collapse with emotional exhaustion at the end of the shoot, possibly because his gun didn't have wheels on it.

Yeah TT he's an excellent commentator. I'm not normally a fan of American accents but his is so soothing. Cross between James Earl Jones and Morgan Freeman. Heaven!

And in the latest Olympic news: Azerbaijan have taken big strides towards winning the systematic falling down with no apparent cause gold...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/boxing/19092318#asset
But Japan strike back with a good call in their second attempt at "The judges decision is final, not!" gold medal.
It's still all to play for.

Justice was down there PJ. Most fights would probably be called off if they guy fell down 6 times.
Nice to see thwey acknowledged their mistake. Great Olympics. Great decision not much controversy so far that hasn't been rectified.

Still loving the buzz in London. I work in a building abutting Palace St in Victoria. Can't tell you how many people I've directed to Buck House this week, when out on a smoke break.
"Don't forget to bow and curtsey to her Maj when she waves at you from the balcony."

That was a crazy initial decision in the Boxing... Always good to hear the dulcet tones of Jim Neilly on the BBC! Even managed to slip in a rugby reference there.

Annie had really big feet, Bahny had bigger feet, but Fannie had huge feet. One night Annie and Bahny went out. They started talking to two brothers. After a while one brother couldn't resist it any longer "excuse me girls, but I really can't help noticing the size of your feet, they are, erm, rather big?" to which Annie replied "if you think our feet are big you should see our Fannie's!"

It was indeed one of the most farcical bouts I've ever witnessed, the Excel crowd thought so too, to be fair to them.
Does anybody know on what basis they managed to turn it over?
On the points system, the Azerbaijani clearly had more of them, so regardless of his final round shenanigans, he had more points when it finished, so did the panel decide the ref should have DQ'd him? Did they decide he should have had standing counts and therefore plus points to Japan? Or was he just DQ'd for being a bollix?
Definitely righted a wrong, but I'd like to know how - as usual the BBC is particularly lax on detail...
