Olympics, Day 7
First topic message reminder :
Getting this up early as I'm off soon.
A great day for us yesterday as we won three golds, taking our score to 5. We now sit 5th in the medal table and with any luck could sit in 3rd by the day is out.
The main event starts today as well, with the athletics kicking off at 10 with Jess Ennis.
AND COME ON ALAN CAMPBELL!

Not a great attitude.
No, one person is saying that.

Lizzie Simmonds of GB just came in 4th in the 200m backstroke final. Top effort. Now, come on Rebecca Adlington!

How much money is excess money? India have the fastest growing economy in the World- the poor infrastructure is actually not that closely related and the poverty of its people is due to polarisation of that economy and a particularly corrupt government in a country that only partially exists and actually functions better as a collection of culturally separate states

I just don't appreciate being grouped together with people like that.
Most people are appreciative of the efforts of Team GB and don't take anything for granted.

Read it, it's interesting but I suspect it's embellished and the writing is hit and miss. Went to India, that was the bigger clue

ANOTHER gold medal for Michael Phelps.
If it wasn't for his own performance at Beijing, this would be an amazing Olympics.

I wasn't aware that I grouped you in with anyone.
If I'd said 'everyone in this thread is negative' maybe there should be a problem. I'm fully aware that the vast majority hear are very positive about Team GB's performances.
But I'm sorry if it looked like I was accusing you or anyone else of anything.

Got offered £50,000 to smuggle jewelry back to the UK from India actually. Might of been a con, hard to tell

well lets be honest they need so much excess money to get the infastructire sorted out first before they can start actually putting money into olympic programs. You need decent standard of living first and foremost and if they are not willing to sort that - they have no chance

I think the confusion might come from when you said "you're". I assumed you meant plural 'you', while you probably meant singular 'you' to the person who said it.
Sorry, my fault that!

I think that GBR has done really well, all the Brits should be dead proud of their performance.
What is shocking is that the Aussies are not right up there. They used to own the pool and Veledrome.

Re: Olympics, Day 7
India put huge amounts of money into sport to win medals at the Delhi Commonwealth Games. They actually finished higher in the medal table than England.
That said, they did focus on female power events and they did have to start from scratch with a couple of teams because they all got busted for steroids (wrestlers, weightlifters). They also lost a few medals on the track due to drug scandals too.
That's the problem when nations are trying to improve their world standing with sport. We see the same with countries like Azerbaijan and Turkey at the moment.

She's on drugs. (in-joke at the Americans) Not really of course, but she's pretty much done what the Chinese swimmer did. Shows what the US coach said was sour grapes!

What a swim from Ledecky, she's only 15 for crying out loud! Adlington will be disappointed but it's still a bronze for her and Team GB. More bad news, GB women are 1-0 down to Canada in the Quarter-Finals and, after event 3, Ennis has slipped to 2nd overall in the standings with 4 events to go.

Nah, not worried about Ennis. As long as the Jav isn't awful, she'll come through, it's all about the 200m and 800m

Re: Olympics, Day 7
It's the Long Jump I'm more worried about and I'm still worried about Fountain. She's a strong 200 metre runner, a world class long jumper and her Jav is similar to Ennis.
Ennis is much better over 800, but she doesn't want a deficit because it's so hard to claw back.

Skujyte is a great thrower , but not so fast - Ennis will regain her lead in the 200.
That said , Skuyjte is having a fine competition so far , and I do rate her as a danger (javelin to come too...)
