Olympics, Day 7
First topic message reminder :
Getting this up early as I'm off soon.
A great day for us yesterday as we won three golds, taking our score to 5. We now sit 5th in the medal table and with any luck could sit in 3rd by the day is out.
The main event starts today as well, with the athletics kicking off at 10 with Jess Ennis.
AND COME ON ALAN CAMPBELL!

We got Helen Jenkins in the Triathlon tomorrow morning too. She's a pretty good favourite for gold.
Great run from Ross Murray. Quick race too and beat some decent guys.

Murray is 7-5 5-4 up. If he can break Djokovic here, he'll be in the final.

Fallacy really. People tend to look back to the 'good old days' and lump all of our medals all together as one. In any given Olympics, we didn't actually ever do that much better than we'll do this time. (particularly as our best ones 80-84, were both boycotted games.)
We had more bad events then than we do now, but they're just not mentioned because they're not remembered.

They only got a bronze in 1976, Brendan Foster. My dad always reminds of that. Big athletics fan he is, his favourite was Ovett.

Is it just me or is the crowd support better than it is at Wimbledon for Murray? Is that because he's playing for GB rather than himself?
Murray needs to use the momentum to break Djokovic now.

Murray now 7-5 6-5 up. If he can break Djokovic's serve here, he'll win. Otherwise, it'll be a tie-break. Tension.

Agreed. They can be more vocal. He's more pumped as well. Plus he can't be called Scottish if he loses.

4th, needed to finish top 6 to qualify. The crowd pushed him on at the end after he got stuck in the middle.

Murray has broken Djokovic to love and is in the final! Incredible achievement. He'll play a slightly exhausted Federer in the final.

Shocker of a last game from Djokovic, but Andy looked absolutely pumped for this. Great performance.
So now only Federer in a five set final on Sunday. Pity it's not tomorrow after Fed's marathon against Del Potro.

So you're saying Barcelona/Atlanta was our golden era? 2 gold and 4 bronze at Barcelona and 2 silver 3 bronze in Atlanta.
It's all rose tinted glasses stuff, although understandable.
Awesome from Murray - couldn't be happier, he so wants this one.

That's the problem with what people do these days. They take a period of 4 Olympics and say why can't we have as many great athletes as we did then?
If you take it Olympics by Olympics, we're certainly no worse no and probably better. You can't put Seb Coe and Tessa Sanderson in the same era as Roger Black and Jonathon Edwards.

Stick Grabarz and PSD in that and it becomes very impressive.
2 long jump boys going doing better than anyone since 1968. A few great athletes, albeit 'plastic' going in the women's jumps. Goldie Sayers brilliant stuff in the Jav.

It has been another excellent day for Team GB.
3 golds, 4 bronze is it?
Murray confirms a gold or silver medal, Jessica Ennis starting well.
