The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, Stratford
First topic message reminder :
The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in the heart of the Olympic Precinct at Stratford, where we can watch the world's greatest athletes do their thing and strut their stuff during the best Modern Olympics Games ever.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius" has been the motto for the modern Olympic Games since their beginning in 1896 - and let's hope it stays that way.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Jessica Ennis, Kieran Behan, Oscar Pistorius, Bradley Wiggins, Leryn Franco, Michelle Jenneke, Victoria Pendleton, Aaron Cruden, Katie Taylor, Misty May, Usain Bolt, Mo Farah, Krisztián Berki (on that horsey thingy) and the the Winner of the Gold Medal at Wimbledon - Andy Murray.

You can see why primitive cultures worshiped the sun. Perhaps they should have made sacrifices for the jet stream.

Hey As... a question for you.
Where does the south coast of England change from stone/pebble beaches (Dover, Brighton, etc) to the sandy beaches? Noticed Weymouth is sandy... and I remember Exeter is too.
Or do I need to get my eyes checked?

Gotcha.
Fond memories of the coast in Devon and Cornwall. The west side near St Ives is very nice too.

Bore da pawb / good morning all, it's shaping up to be a beautiful day here!
It makes absolute sense to worship the sun. There would be no life without it (except for things that live in caves and the like). The sun also has the capacity to kill everything on the planet, which is a nicely godlike attribute.
But I was raised as a moon-worshipper myself.

To be honest, it's variable right along the coast - so, mostly sandy beaches in Cornwall right up to Exmouth, then stone around Branscombe and Beer (but these are the beaches we tend to go to cos they are quieter), mix of sand and stone along the jurassic coast, etc.Linebreaker wrote:eirebilly wrote:Linebreaker wrote:Morning Hound!

Just seen this
Piers Morgan on twitter : And yes, I was very disappointed @bradwiggins didn't sing the anthem either. Show some respect to our Monarch please!
Bradley Wiggins response: @piersmorgan I was disappointed when you didn't go to jail for insider dealing or phone hacking, but you know, each to his own.
Quality response.

That's class, Hound!
But I don't see how not singing the anthem is disrespectful to the Queen anyway. If he'd turned around and mooned the flag, fair enough.

Watched a documentary on him last night - he survived around 30 assassination attempts on him during the course of his life (mostly from disaffected Frenchmen that were pee-ed off with his decision to hand Algeria back to the Algerians!) - talk about born luckyLuckless Pedestrian wrote:No, I said I was raised as a moon-worshipper. I think Belfast are ireland's most succesful city for Ireland in the Olympics, around 7 or so medals, outstanding stuff. Crok has 3 I think, 2 gold and a silver. Dublin has a lot although question marks will always remain over Smith's.
Between those magnificent sideburns and that response Wiggins is hard not to like, my Sports Personality of the Year anyway.

Have you seen that Katy Taylor has got some offers from football clubs for after the Olympics? Any decent football side in Cork at all?

There's a women's side who compete in the Irish League, they seem decent. She was a great footballer actually, saw her play in "The X" a few times when the Irish Women's side played there, scored a goal from around 40 yards out one time in another match. Might rite soemthing for the journal in a few days on dual sports stars Ireland and US seem to have the highest pedigree in it. "Duels in their crown" as a title

Piers Morgan comes across as so unpleasant anyway that I don't even care. Plus he has been going on and on and on about people not singing GSTQ all Olympics. The fact that he's famous and therefore might make other nations think the British are anything like him is unfortunate

Ah to be fair, it's probably somewhere in Europe she'd go to, either England or Sweden or Germany.
That title is awful by the way, which makes it great

It will probably be rewritten Munsty, not a lot of material to work with though to be fair. Sweden is professonal I think I heard them say the other day, USA don't really have one which is a shame as they have some great players (and some very good looking ones....)

Sorry checking it out, they had a professional league in America but it has gone down, so most of the top players moved to Europe. It is college in America where the top stuff is played. I met an American girl this summer who plays at a first division college in Alabama. She was fantastic, I mean very good.
Something that really gets on my nerves is seeing men mocking women's football at this level, when the men who do, would be embarrassed by these women.

Don't know how true that is, there was professional league there until recently but they take college sports seriously, be it Ultimate Frisbee, American Football, Baseball or Basketball.
On that note Ultimate Frisbee is pretty mental!

Ultimate Firsbee? It's pretty competitive I will tell you that, the Cork side were trainign up on the rugby pitch yesterday, unreal skills involved. In some very small way it is a lot like hurling. All in the wrists.

Well yeah of course it's a bit like that but still people seemed to take it seriously and it looked like a good laugh, nice to see a new sport in Ireland with decent numbers turning out to play it, if my legs weren't wrecked I would have had a go myself.
