The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, Stratford
First topic message reminder :
The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in the heart of the Olympic Precinct at Stratford, where we can watch the world's greatest athletes do their thing and strut their stuff during the best Modern Olympics Games ever.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius" has been the motto for the modern Olympic Games since their beginning in 1896 - and let's hope it stays that way.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Jessica Ennis, Kieran Behan, Oscar Pistorius, Bradley Wiggins, Leryn Franco, Michelle Jenneke, Victoria Pendleton, Aaron Cruden, Katie Taylor, Misty May, Usain Bolt, Mo Farah, Krisztián Berki (on that horsey thingy) and the the Winner of the Gold Medal at Wimbledon - Andy Murray.

MON Katie! Do it! This girl has singularly put wimmins boxing on the World map. She deserves it just for that.

And the Men's 470 final has been postponed until tomorrow as there's no wind at Weymouth. So our 4th gold will have to wait

What a massive relief... GOLD for Ireland!

Is it just me or was that fight a bit of an anti climax after all the pre-fight excitement? Maybe it's because I don't understand boxing.

The Russian she was fighting is an out and out counter puncher so it was never going to be the most exciting fight.

Oh phew! They disallowed the kick to the head, so she's still going.
Woo! She's done it! She'll definitely get silver or gold. First time for GB and she's beaten the world champ.

Hoi Cari darlin. Its been an education watching women box like Ali. This has done more for Womens Right to Fight, than any other moment I can remember. Cast away the macho sporting BS. Boxing was the last bastion of it. This World is changing for the better in some ways. Men wont change it. That's been tried and failed. Here's to the women. And to their Ma's & Da's, who can see the Light.
I loved this also. She came last by a long-shot. But, also came 1st by a long-shot. It has purely defined this Olympics for me. What it was supposed to be all about in the first place.

Well done to Adams before hand too, she fought well. This was unreal.

Just picked an interesting time to flick through my FB news feed. One friend has just had a (work) conference call with Linford Christie, and another just got approached on the street in Loughton and offered a part in The Only Way Is Essex (she declined. Forcefully)

Taylor has been training for this for over 10 years, believed she would win it 15 years ago. Unbelievable stuff, this is surreal. London 2012 rocks!

Its my jawb mon. To be a fly in the liniment.
Not being negative. Just pointing out the fact that Munster are a shoite, grinding, boring, team to watch. Like Leicester. And always have been roysh.
Rugby, Rugby, Rugby.
P.S. T, I watched the Miracle Game today. HC Rugby at its best. So...

Started tearing up again when the played the anthem and gave her the medal, a great day for our small country.
Gibbo, Feic off with that comment is all I say, cheeky feicer. Munster negative? Not a chance. Ireland yes. Ochigava, a resounding yes.

Yer having a laff gibbo. Brive v Munster in the Amlin q/f was a great game of attacking rugby. Sure, Munster go for the 'grind' tactics when 10m from the oppo's line, but who doesn't. Probably 4 out of 5 times they'll get the try too.
As for Leicester, they are almost always top try scorers in the prem, with most of them coming from the backs.
Yup, stirring it up as per.
To and fro game in the basketball now.
I'm getting tired of watching these wee islands just off the NW coast of Europe bagging golds.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, Stratford
Just read back a bit, beach volleyabll is basically a fast version of the sport lik 20/20 or 7s. I find it great to watch and the men's competition has been more exciting, should countries be allowed have 2 teams, I think the best should qualify so see no problem but can see why you wouldn't want it. Should there be restrictions in other sports becasue of it too though like table tennis and badminton?
Yeah Hound, I guess it can get pretty annoying, if you gave us those 20 odd you have we might consider never competing again.....
Handball in Ireland is squash with no bat, fun to watch ealry games were onesided but getting interesting, I'm not sure if I know all the rules but think it's 3 steps before a hop.

I'm told (I made the same suggestion to Stag and Rava the other day - it'd fit in well with the Gaelic sports skillsets IMO) that it's because the GAA decided to call Eton Fives "handball" and the same name for different sports doesn't work ...
Edit, Thomond beat me to it
