The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sea of Tranquility, Luna
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to the Moon, in honour of the late Neil Armstrong. One small step for man ...
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Lance Armstrong in yellow, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin moonwalking, or the shot of Joe Ansbro breaking the line.

Ah, I remember that five-second rule now. Will the ref tell the scrum half (or whoever) when the five seconds start, or just blow his whistle when the five seconds are up?

Voted Rava.
23-11 to Canterbury over Auckland in the ITM Cup match. 60th min
High quality game so far, end to end stuff with some brilliantly timed passes leading to tries. Even a good old fashioned brawl. Gotta love Wednesday night football...

Basically once the ball has been won, ref will call "use it". The player now has 5 seconds (if its 6 seconds I see few if any referees turning it over) to pass the ball away, pick and go or to box kick.
What we saw previous with say Saracens or Munster was the ball would be won and they would add another 2-3 players onto the ball of the ruck frequently taking 10-15 seconds.

I'm having no luck with my fantasy premier league side. Aguero got injured on the first weekend, Rooney got injured on the second. I've just brought in Torres for Rooney and Ben Arfa for Aaron Ramsey, watch those two get injured now.

I think Torres will have a good year Luckless. He is far and away the best striker Chelsea have and I think he will thrive on it instead of just being the guy who plays alonside Drogba.
I see he has 2 goals in his first 3 games. Thats cracking compared to when he scored 1 goal in 14 games in his first year.
Stick with him.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sea of Tranquility, Luna
He's started well enough, Stag, but Rooney scored a shedload of goals last season. His touch has been terrible for a while now, though, and I've heard that Sir Alex (or Sir Alec as some commentators still call him) is considering giving him the heave-ho.

Really? I can't imagine who would buy him?
Maybe Man City (would he go) or Real Madrid but I don't see anyone else with the financial means to buy him apart from Barcelona who I don't think would pay it for him.

They'd make a loss on him I'm sure, Stag, but - and I don't know how much truth there is to the rumour - once Sir Alex decides someone's face doesn't fit, it's beef curtains for him.

Rooney won't be going anywhere. He just needs a kick up the proverbial from time to time. It's one of those times now.

I'm not so sure, Rava. Let's see how van Persie fares while Rooney's out injured - if he's scoring goals and United are winning, Fergie might conclude that Rooney's surplus to requirements.

It's been funny in our two friendlies seeing my opposition forgetting about rhe five seconds to use it. Risca Probables guy realised straight away, Whiteheads guy had a bit of a rage, as he didn't know that law was in.

The refs are going to have to count the five seconds in their heads, aren't they? If they have to look at / fiddle around with their watches to time it, it'll end up being more than five seconds, plus players will know the ref isn't watching play while he's doing it.

I don't get the last point. Its very easy watch and think at the same time . . . .even for refs!!
That definitely won't be an issue.
What might be is the opposing team shouting out FIVE, FOUR, THREE, TWO, ONE really loudly and demanding a turnover.
After all some refs count quicker than others
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sea of Tranquility, Luna
What I mean is that he can't time it on his watch, otherwise he won't be able to watch play at the same time. Unless he's a chameleon, but they're not fast enough to keep up with play.

Afternoon. Does anyone think this nee 5 second law will lead to more box kicking? If a team aren't set up to attack the safe option will be to kick for territory.
Mind you, I can also see some ferocious counter rucking once the ref calls "use it."

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sea of Tranquility, Luna
Luckless, if there is a ref timing 5 seconds on his watch he is going to fare badly.
It shouldn't be complicated. Ball is available, ref calls "use it". The opposition are likely now to counter ruck, infringe offside etc so ref keeps them legit while counting calmly to 5 in his head.

I agree with both of these Hound.
I was only saying this morning here I expect Munster will box kick everything as it is something Conor Murray does well.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sea of Tranquility, Luna
Lucky - that Welsh double header is two weeks after the 6N finishes. If Wales have a good 6N it will be a rip roaring success.
I would imagine the nominated home team will have control of the stadium announcements. That's how it works in the London version.

It could be, Hound, you're right. I still don't like us having in effect one fewer home game in the season, though.
I'm not bothered who the stadium announcer is, they're all attention-seeking wannabe DJs in my experience! (Profound apologies if anyone here is a stadium announcer. Or an attention-seeking wannabe DJ, for that matter.)

It's not the distance, Stag, it's the fact we'll be losing the psychological advantage of playing at home. It's not insignificant.

It's also the added travel cost that only we incur.
Guest- Guest
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sea of Tranquility, Luna
What added travel cost?
The players wake up on the morning of the game in their own bed in Newport. They get onto a coach and 20 minutes later they are at the "away" stadium.
The coach hire will probably be a few hundred pounds which is more or less exactly the same as ringing Edwards from Cardiff getting them come out to take the team to Rodney Parade. Its still just a day fee for the coach.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sea of Tranquility, Luna
Are you missing the point about Dragons being at home and not in an "away" stadium? The likelihood is the Dragons don't coach to Rodney Parade anyway. Well, I know for a fact they don't.
Added travel cost to Cardiff for the alleged home support (ie Dragons supporters). It might be a matter of a few quid, but why should a home supporter be out of pocket in any sense? Add in the fact it'll probably be a pricier programme (as it's likely to be joint with the Blues), the fact we are now subjected to crappy MS food compared to that at RP, and the male supporters having to urinate in a posh urinal instead of onto a nice urine smelling wall and even an Anti Dragon like yourself should see how Dragons supporters get the bum end of the deal.
As I said on the thread, Cardiff supporters only have to hop next door and the Scarlets and Ospreys (if the alleged fixtures in 2013-14 are correct) get reduced travel due to going one train stop or 10 miles short of Newport.

Boo-flicking-hoo lads,
If you can't see the bonus of playing a double header in MS then all is lost for your lot. Guarantee that the dragons will have more support there than they would if the game was played in Dave.

Well, you'd hope if this is a yearly thing next year it will be the two 'away' sides who have it as a 'home' fixture. Thats only fair.
Not sure I'd be too happy about it if Ulster had to play an interpro in Dublin that would have been at Ravenhill. Ravenhill carries a big home advantage with it. But on the other hand, it would be a pretty outstanding day out. So i'd be very torn.

Notch would you be happy if the game was in Down rather than Belfast just 10 miles away
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sea of Tranquility, Luna
It's losing that home advantage that bothers me, Notch. It'll probably be a good day / night out, but I'm more concerned about our chances of beating the Scarlets than anything else.
