First topic message reminder :

Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The Pub has made its way to the Moon, in honour of the late Neil Armstrong. One small step for man ...

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Lance Armstrong in yellow, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin moonwalking, or the shot of Joe Ansbro breaking the line.

If you can't see the bonus of playing a double header in MS then all is lost for your lot. Guarantee that the dragons will have more support there than they would if the game was played in Dave.

Can you guarantee that? What I'd be closer to guaranteeing is there'll be more casual Ospreys supporters there.

Rev the way you put that I get the impression that every Dragons fan is within walking distance of the stadium. I'm sure that's not right so the difference in travel costs might not be all that much.
As far as the club are concerned then I suspect what Hughie says will be correct, there will be more supporters at the game therefore greater income.

Rav,

Of course it's money. I wouldn't have thought we needed to sacrifice our atmosphere etc for that though.

If you listen to people on here, the Dragons are Newport aren't they? Besides which, it's easier/cheaper to get to Newport for most people than Cardiff. I can drive and park for free in Newport for example.

Lucky I understand your point about it affecting your chances in the match but I think worries about travel costs and the financial burden on fans to be utter nonsense.

Wouldn't it be cheaper for the WRU if they moved all NGD fixtures to the MS in Cardiff? Whistle

Oooh yes please As.

It isn't a worry Stag, it's a question as to why should a home supporter have to be anymore out of pocket. It's easy for people like you to pour scorn over people's reasoning why they might be against it (as it hasnt happened to you). Like I said anyway, I can't go, so these aren't my issues or worries, they're other people's questions that I've seen on other sites.

Anyway, I'm getting annoyed discussing this in here now (which is probably a few of you guys aim). People should remember that somebody like me doesn't need a novelty or an excuse to go watch my region play and I have every right to question things about why it's my region that seems to be getting its home game moved.

Rev nobody is aiming to upset you.

I just think that its a major over reaction by fans and it sums up why there are problems with regional rugby.

People won't go 10 miles - just ten miles - out of their way to get something better. If it isn't on their doorstep it isn't good enough.

I just really can't understand it. I mean something like Saracens threatening to move to Cape Town or Boston I can get but this is just an over reaction.

BTW Rev - Im not having a go and I am definitely not saying you don't have a right to question things.

All I'm saying is that I think your financial worries are massively exaggerated and Luckless has a much stronger claim about home advantage being lost.

Is it seriously only 10 miles from Cardiff to Newport? That's not that much at all think of the Cork or Limerick lads travelling up or down to head to matches. Or people going up to Dublin for GAA games! The home advantage yes that's an issue but the cost isn't

Nah, I would rather it was in Dublin. I would rather it was in Dublin than another stadium in BELFAST.

The point is the very unique home advantage Ravenhill offers, not travel or additional expense, assuming the season ticket covers entry. Rodney Parade is much the same. It's worth 5-10 points to the home side, maybe more.

Same Province though isn't it (ie still in Munster).

Look, the extra expenditure issue has never been the thrust of my arguement, though it has been made so. I mentioned it in passing in the first instance as Dragons are the only region to get affected by it. The diluted atmosphere has always been my main grumble.

Does anyone here have PBS America as part of their TV package? I keep forgetting I've got it, but they're showing a Ken Burns documentary about prohibition in the States and it's brilliant, just supremely good documentary making. I've only been home early enough to catch the last 20 minutes of the first two episodes, so I've ordered the DVD.

Well it's 13 miles from my house to my work which is on the outskirts of Newport, so RP could even be about 14 miles from the centre of Cardiff. It's really not that expensive to travel between the two cities - £2.75/£3.40 return on the bus (depending which company you use). Anyway, the thing is, someone is always going to lose home advantage wherever you have it. You won't really know how much of an effect it has on the home advantage or not until it's tried out, which is what they're doing. If it's massively unpopular, I can't see it lasting. The MS is probably the most appropriate venue because it's considered the home of Welsh rugby and thus unifying the regions...I think it could be a great day out, but we'll just have to see how the games go.

I'd love to go to Clermont. Their atmosphere seems incredible with all the colour.

Torn between playing rugby on Saturday and not letting my mates down and not playing and ensuring my face is ok for my brother's wedding next Friday. Considering I probably broke my nose on Saturday and have terrible scrummaging burns most of the time, I'm taking a bit of a gamble.

True enough Rav. I did break my beak fairly early doors in my illustrious and well decorated career.

My scrummaging burns usually peel off midweek, leaving a pink scar. That won't be so bad. Of course that's relying on me not picking up other cuts or markings.

I've just got shot of the biggest arachnid I've ever seen (look away now lucky!). It was about 2/3 of the size of my hand and lurking in the bath.

Opened the bathroom window, scooped it up and dropped it out. It will get a better supper out in the garden. It didn't half wriggle though.

Nuffin' compared to the beasts in linebreaker's part of the world though.

1. the paralympic ceremony is still on

2. Laura Robson just had a match point against Kim Clijsters (the 3 time US open champion) and it's gone to a 2nd set tiebreak.

Laura Robson did it. She won in straight sets and has knocked Clijsters out of her last ever tournament. That is truly an amazing victory for her.

And this opening ceremony, some of the singing in it...tis special, absolutely beautiful.

Morning/evening folks,

Enjoying the opening ceremony too. Another feast for the senses.

Nice work Hound. Did you scoop it with your hand or use an improvised device? I'm an expert at that sort of thing. Except for the really bad ones. I use a brick for those. Sends shivers...

Warm here this morning 20° on my outside thermometer at 8:45am (2nd last day of winter) heading up to about 23°... but I think it could go higher. Just has that feel/look about it. I put the heater away a few weeks ago now.

Just watched Eric Whitacre's Prom at the Riyal Albert Hall for Lauren's birthday. Literally sheer beauty in my ear.

Morning slackers,

Sitting outside Junction again this morning, love starting my days like this, only doing seven hours today and I'm spending the first hour and a half sitting around. Happy days

I'm really struggling to get into the paralympics to be honest and I think ice figured out why. I watch most sport withh the illusion that if I tried hard enough I could be really good, watching the Olympics I still got the feeling that one day it'd be me, same with the RWC, Im still going to play for Ireland in it. However the paralympics is just something I (hopefully) will never aspire to partake in, and I just find it really hard to get involved in.

Hope ye all understand what I'm trying to say.

Anyways morning again, last day of seven today then four days off. Make my inter-county cricket debut on Saturday Laugh

Morning all. Managed to tweak a neck muscle while coughing myself awake this morning, so 'tis the sofa again for me today Sad. Moving very ... slowly ... and ... deliberately.
