The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sea of Tranquility, Luna
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to the Moon, in honour of the late Neil Armstrong. One small step for man ...
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Lance Armstrong in yellow, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin moonwalking, or the shot of Joe Ansbro breaking the line.

Morning all, have you not been to the quacks yet Pete? Honestly, you're such a total bloke.
I understand what you're saying Hoog. Those of us that are fortunate to be fully able-bodied can't understand what the athletes have been through, have to cope with on a daily basis and go through to compete; many of them go through agony during their events.
In those physical terms we do look on as outsiders, but I make the connection through the human spirit of determination, desire to adapt and overcome, and the positivity they all have that makes them totally focused on getting something good out of something that is bad.
I'd like to think that I could be something like that in the same situation, I'm not sure I would be, but unless you're in that situation you'll never know, so to see them being how I would like to be, gets me fully engaged.
If that makes sense?
Anyhoo have a good day, I'm off to work.

Bore da pawb / good morning. I'm really not that bothered about the Paralympics. I've never paid attention to it before, so I'm not going to pretend to be interested in it just because it's in London. That's not to say I don't admire those taking part.

And your dead right luckless, living in London I kind of get the feeling that I'm being a bit if a ballix for not being all that interested in it, the expectation is that the whole city will get behind these games and support it. No doubt most will but I don't want to feel like a pariah for not.
On a similar note, these athletes all say that they all just wanted to be treated normally and that we all look beyond the disability, which is great. Does that mean we can tell them they were a bit shoite if they were and not get chastised for it??

Did anyone else know that there is a "Gay Games" for homosexual athletes.
Madness. PC gone mad.
Limerick has applied to host the next one along with London, Orlando, Rio de Janiero, Paris and Sao Paulo.

That's ridiculous, Stag. There's a Paralympics because those taking part can't compete with able-bodied* athletes. There's no need to have a separate 'Gay Games'.

I think that's a very valid point Lucky. The meeja are really milking this and to be honest there wasn't that big of a deal four years ago.
That aside I did listen to a radio show a few weeks ago about four of the athletes taking part. Unfortunately I can't remember the names but the stories were amazing. One guy who plays basketball was on his way home after a night out and tripped crossing the railway. He had to lie there and watch a train coming that took off his leg. He crawled from there half a mile to the main road where he had to endure almost an hour of pain and blood loss before someone stopped to see what was wrong. Luckily it was an off duty nurse who was able to administer life saving aid and summon the paramedics.
The stories are amazing and the determination to come back from the adversity is unbelievable and absolutely commendable but I still won't be watching.

Morning Pubsters,
The Gay Games have been around for ages, haven't they? Only difference is they use black & white ribbons for the floor routines.
'We' (well actually not me personally) got into a bit of 'trouble' for over-designing things a little during the Sydney Paralympics. SPOC (Sydney Para Olympic Committee) told us to "lose the ramps and all those bloody handrails going up the stairs in the accommodation!" otherwise the athletes would rip them out themselves and burn them. They (especially the triple jumpers) hated the fact that we tried to follow the Brief and make it more accessible. They also complained there were not enough condoms... and too many buses between the village and venues. Fecking hard to please some people...

Good to see Fumiaki Tanaka playing scrum-half for Otago. Also Shota Horie is a hooker in the squad. Should be more of this sort of exchange between rugby playing nations. 9 all with the B.O.P. before HT.

Right, serious question, how on earth do they get away with having the gay games??(surly it should be call The Gaymes no??)
I've just set up a new games but you have to be straight to compete.
Oh hello what's that??
I'm being sued for discrimination?? Oh right.
I'd give it two days before I was torn to shreds by all and sundry

Last day of GP for me, approaching Obs ad Gynae soon, can't wait.
Gay Games are a ludicrous idea, if anything it precipitates the notion that gay people can't compete with straight people at Sport so it's actually offensive really!

You're all right. The problem is that some gay people actually enjoy being 'separate' from everyone else. These people infuriate the hell out of me. They say they want a world where being gay is no big deal, but you can bet they'd hate it if they didn't get a reaction.

I just don't get that Luckless. Its the weirdest way of thinking.
"I think fellas are better looking than wimmin therfore I need to segregate myself from others".
I wonder when the Chubby Chaser Olympics are going to be held.

Anyone else hear about this "boosting" thing done by Paralympic Athletes.
Its illegal but very hard to spot.
A lot of guys in it are paralysed from wait down. Before they start their event they will intentionally break one of their toes or give themselves an electric shock with a small device or cut themselves etc.
Even though they cant feel a thing it gives their body a natural adrenaline rush which it has been shown can lead to increased endurance of upto 15-20%

Of course they can't compete. They run in that flouncy, way.
And can you imagine the relay. "Give me that baton, biitch!!" "No, shan't"
It would take forever.

You've got to love stereotypes. Except that some people (including plenty I work with) genuinely believe that all gay men are mincing queens.

I'm just joining in the general frivolity around the whole concept of a gay games.
The chap who sits opposite me at work is gay. 90% of the time you wouldn't know, then he'll go into the 'stereotype' mode.

I remember a lad who was in school with me who was flaming
Honest to god the lads used to give him an awful doing (though usually behind his back).
However turns out he was just flamboyant and not actually gay. Ended up sleeping with half the girls in our year before he left school.

You'd love it here lucky. Google "Sydney Convicts Rugby". They have their own rugby team too who happen to be world club champions. They have left a trail of bruised bodies... and egos in the last few years. Uncompromising big baastards*

I used to work with a guy who was the campest man you know, but he's as straight as an arrow. He thinks it's hilarious that everyone thinks he's gay!
