The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Sea of Tranquility, Luna
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to the Moon, in honour of the late Neil Armstrong. One small step for man ...
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Lance Armstrong in yellow, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin moonwalking, or the shot of Joe Ansbro breaking the line.

Evenin' all.
Hound, I used to love American football when I was really young - I'm told. Apparently my dad and I had gone into town one Saturday and as we sat upstairs on the double decker on the way home, I explained the rules to him. I couldn't tell him what the rules are now, but it's not like my dad to make things up. He's a terrible liar.
Here's something that's annoying me: after Team GB, we now have ParalympicsGB - but written exactly like that, with no space. It's so flucking stupid as well as being wrong. It makes it sound like a gimmicky product, like ProActiv. The BBC are going along with it, too. What on God's green earth is wrong with just plain Paralympics GB? Someone (or more likely a committee) somewhere has made the conscious decision to get rid of the space between the words. I demand to know what their reasoning was - and to slap them.

Evening All
Can't wait for the new domestic season to kick off, and I'm only in work for two days next week! The downside is that it's getting nearer to Christmas. Don't joke, apparently Asda have started having Santa's grottos in some stores already.

Is that true about the grottos, Cari? It's not even September yet! Then again, they've probably made such a loss on barbecue products this summer, they may as well try and recoup it with the Christmas stuff.

Yeah I read it in the Metro yesterday. Asda were accused of being "irresponsible" after parents complained it put them under pressure going on about Christmas already. Asda reckon it's just a gimmick to promote some club card savings thing they're doing, but they've had a bollocking for it.

Ah, Rava - we're of the same generation. I thought the format really worked in terms of creating interest in the sport. It was very MOTD in a way.

Allright 'ow's it goin' in Lahndahn tahn?
The girl who sits next to me in work is going to watch the Dragons tomorrow night. She's never been to a match, never watches rugby and did nothing but moan about having to go because she hates rugby (and any sport) so much and is only going because her brother got her a free ticket. I hope it's a decent game, although I feel she is not one for converting regardless of what the match is like. She always has a go at me for liking rugby, so no doubt I'll have to listen to more moaning on Monday...

It was that format that sold it. The idea of watching the American broadcasts with all their Commercial breaks would be dreadful.

Notch, are Glasgow perceived to be weak in the scrum?
Well, their tighthead is ok but they have a rookie loosehead and a greenhorn, lightweight hooker. We have a very good scrum now. Probably the most impressive part of our pre-season friendlies. I would back the pack thats starting tomorrow against almost anyone.

On BBC Two now, Kate Humble is in Iceland talking about volcanoes. Would that be the Kate Humble who also hosted a programme about the earth's orbit around the sun? Why, yes it would. Does Miss Humble have a background in either vulcanology or astronomy? No, I don't believe she does. Gee flucking whizz, it's great being told things by people who don't know what they're talking about.

Didn't she do the volcano programme down in Hawaii too?
Such a good idea for a programme but it just doesn't work (for me anyway)

Oh, it wouldn't surprise me if Auntie gave her a free holiday there too, Dreamer. They're giving Claire Summers off Wales Today her second city break in London, this time to cover the Paralympics, despite our sports reporter (not to mention a good dozen other BBC journalists) already being there, so they must have plenty of money to spare.

I agree with you, Claire's very good - and there's the added bonus that she can't pronounce Gavin (so it's always 'Gaving Henson'); but there's no need whatsoever for her to be in London when we've already got a reporter there.

Us Nordies watched it Hound. I was a fan in the 80's as well. I think mostly because it was new and there wasn't much else on the TV sport wise except the footie.
I thought you were around my age, so would only have been a child in the 80's. Good memory that is. I can't remember a thing from them
Cari, I don't see what anybody with no interest in rugby would gain from RP. If she likes a sing/shout she's alright though. To be fair SUFTMOG (the chant that Ulster nicked off us), he knocked it on and different Dragons ones are easy enough to join in with. She won't get the Men of Gwent song though. Still, I hope for your sake she enjoys it.

Just listened to the podcast, for the three musketeers.
Kiwi, I'm starting to worry about you bud, you sounded very "throaty" at times, look after yourself man.
Stag, I could listen to you talk about rugby all night, not only do you know your onions, but you have a great tone too, veeerry easy on the ear.
Ozzy "Geezer" Osbourne, you tipped Bath as dark horses for the play-offs, me, you, children.
Right, back to the Paralympics. GB locked in a basketball thriller with "the Germans" 'Mon GB!!!

Evening PJ
I watched the Disney version of Robin Hood the other day, so am currently hearing the Prince John "aha" laugh in my head whenever I see your name on here. Strange like but it's amusing none the less (I also don't know why I just felt the need to share that!)

American football is one of those hit or miss games, the puases are a bit annoying you don't notice when your at the game oddly enough on TV it can be a bit annoying I agree, wouldn't be a huge concern of mine to be honest, gives you some time to do other stuff around the shop. How long would a rugby ball be in the field of play for a game 50 minutes or so? Same in Soccer. Gaelic football well we won't talk about that hurling would probably have the highest percentage.
Doesn't bother me much but can see why it can. It's easy to write about and giving me a fair few opportunities so I won't write it off
Seems to be growing a fair deal in the UK in colleges and even a bit in Ireland.
Never seen Robin Hood but watched The Lion King for probably the 50th time today, superb movie and always will be. Wheelchair basketball is it? Have Newcastle on in the background. Looking forward to seeing Wheelchair rugby looks feicing insane. Saw that advert with one of the players, "yeah it's tough but I can't break my spine again!"

Thomond - you have never seen Disney's Robin Hood?! That's actually a little bit scandalous. it's fantastic, easily one of the best - you must watch it. Got reminded of the Sword in the Stone one the other day too, I so need to watch it again. Never too old for Disney.
Gibbo -

I will think it's rubbish now you have bigged it up....... Probably one of the few I haven't seen I would say. VHS was the toy of the 90s, and well I had a sister and brother who were mad into them too. Advice for Kids studying Hamlet, watch The Lion King and you will get what's happening

You pretty much decribed Tim Tebow there. Only reason he is famous is he loves Jesus and that gets you love in America. It's the equivalent of Ian Humphreys being a phenomen and the person everyone talks about in Ireland as he is a big Christian.
Also I have been in the place where the Republican National Convention is being held this year, when I was there a circus was performing, glad to see there has been no change.
