The Hillsborough Memorial Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Liverpool
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to Liverpool in honour of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster, who may finally receive justice.
We are also mourning the sudden loss of Nevin Spence, his father Noel and brother Graeme, who died tragically at their farm in Hillsborough, Co. Down yesterday.
We offer our thoughts and deepest sympathies to his sisters Emma (who remains in a stable condition in hospital), Laura, their mother Essie, family and all friends and fans of the Ulster Rugby community.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Andy Murray, Craig Newby and Delme Thomas.

Lads it is not good news. If thats true it is one of the biggest tragedies I have heard.
By all account its just rumours now but seriously no laughing matter or something that should be discussed unless there is a confirmation.
Im going to log off.

Emphatically no t that's why I talk about a tragedy. Bad news travels fast stag. Don't want to say anything until its confirmed. Lot of premature Facebook statuses.

Spent the last few hours hoping all the talk and speculation was incorrect and premature. Now literally speachless. Not an exaggeration in any way to say that Nevin was one of the nicest and most genuine guys you could ever hope to meet. He always had the time to chat with you even if it was just to see how you where doing.
Words are completely incapable of providing any comfort in the wake of such a huge tragedy but I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say our thoughts and prayers are with his mum, sister and nephew. Nevin, Noel and Graeme, you're in gods hands now. God bless.

Willy, I've mentioned this quote from you on the RIP Nevin Spence thread because it just summed up what I'd like to have said, but couldn't come up with the words myself. I'd also like to add my condolences to Ulster Rugby and their supporters. They've all lost someone special too.

They live 3 doors down from us CJ. The parents heard all the emergency services flying down the road just after 6. I got out of work at 8 and they texted me to be careful on my way home. As usual I dismissed their fussyness and flicked on 5live for my 10 minute journey home. Chris Warburton was literally just breaking the news and my dramatic mind connected the dots. Horrible sensation being told of events on your way home to near the spot. Traffic hasn't stopped all night. Just plain stunned at the moment. No prospect of sleep. Might head to church tomorrow. Mum won't stop hugging me.

My condolences for your loss and Mrs Spence's, Willy. I know these words are pretty empty compared to what's just happened, but they are the best I can do. It is life-crushing to have a friend die and I can't even imagine what it must he like for their mother to lose her whole family.

Hi Pub. Just having a quiet I haven't slept at all tonight. Just feel a bit heavy hearted I suppose, although the ignorant pig next door hasn't helped by having an all night party again. Seems to have calmed down at long last now anyway, so I have some peace. Hope everyone's tucked up safely and has someone to give them a warm cwtch. Been reading through some of the messages on here and on Facebook. It's heartwarming to see so many care.

Re: The Hillsborough Memorial Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Liverpool
It's a terrible loss for rugby and farming, but a tragedy for the family. Dairy farmers are being squeezed out of business by the supermarkets. Those who won't give up are faced with unsympathetic banks and a government who increase the regulatory burden. Farms are worth millions on paper, but nobody with five million to invest would buy a farm to make a return. These people are born to it, live for it and won't give up though.
The next time you are in a supermarket remember Nevin Spence and his family. Wonder how your milk costs less than your mineral water. Think who pays the price of milk being a "loss leader" designed to get you into the shop. And know that you've just been cynically manipulated.
Most of us are powerless to help the Spence family in this situation. But just a few pence per litre on the price of milk would ease the existential pressure on the dwindling band of UK dairy farmers. You don't have to sign petitions or write to your MP, just buy your milk elsewhere, for now.

Fine words, Glas.
I had just popped in to say toodle-oo before I jet off on holiday, but that seems so unimportant after what's happened. Death as the result of an accident always seems like such a waste, but when the accident takes the lives of a number of family members it's all the more tragic, and deeply sad. My sympathy to the Spence family, all who knew Nevin Spence and all Ulster fans. As Prop said, there could be no better tribute than for Ulster to win the Rabo or the Heineken Cup for him.
Right, I'd better make tracks.

Morning folks,
I'm still in shock over it all, I'm.not from a farming background at all, so I just cannot figure out how something like that could ever happen.
I'm just confused by the whole situation

What I keep thinking of is that insert film BBC NI made with Nevin and his sister. They make them to show during halftime, so it's not just pundits talking for ten minutes. Nevin's sister is quite the artist, and she had painted action pictures of various Ulster players, and they were being sold for charity.
So in this film Nevin talks about his fledgling career, and the fact that he's a pretty good artist himself - the last shot, of course, being him drawing a ludicrous stick-man picture and talking about how good it is.
A brilliant young player cheerfully ripping the pish out of himself as his family raise funds for those less fortunate than themselves.
We've lost more than a fine outside centre.

Morning all,
Life is never certain for any of us. Don't waste a minute if you can.
Show each person you love what they mean to you every chance you get.
The pub name is fine. It can serve as a memorial to both tragedies.

I.am still in shock.
Growing up going round friends houses who lived on farms, we were always warned about the slurry tanks and to just nit go near them. I just can't for the life of me fathom how this tragedy could have happened.
I found out about it last night by just quickly checking Twitter before I was heading out with friends and it just made my heart sink for all those involved with the family and Ulster rugby. I am all the more grateful I had two of my best friends with me, its things like this that really bring hone what's important.
All my thoughts are with the family and the whole of the Ulster rugby community.
