The Hillsborough Memorial Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Liverpool
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to Liverpool in honour of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster, who may finally receive justice.
We are also mourning the sudden loss of Nevin Spence, his father Noel and brother Graeme, who died tragically at their farm in Hillsborough, Co. Down yesterday.
We offer our thoughts and deepest sympathies to his sisters Emma (who remains in a stable condition in hospital), Laura, their mother Essie, family and all friends and fans of the Ulster Rugby community.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Andy Murray, Craig Newby and Delme Thomas.

In the end I went with the latter as I just couldn't afford to turn down a scholarship which saved me £4k and give good employment prospects. When I say regret I suppose I mean I'm a bit rueful not to be going to Queen's, but I might do another Masters there next year anyway.
Yes I see your dilemma but the bolded part is the key I suppose, you can always do the other Masters and you haven't lost much other than a year and travel costs, which isn't much in the greater scheme.

Good point, Pete. Hope you enjoy the England kit unveilingPete C (Kiwireddevil) wrote:Morning all, just checking in on my train to Gloucester. Nice and sunny so far.
The exam system is caught betwixt and between. If everyone is getting A*s then they're completely useless as an indicator for universities who want the most able students for tough courses. Down the lower end they allow school leavers to show prospective employers that they are capable of a certain standard (eg can count to 10 wearing shoes and mittens or can read and understand safety instructions). And (assuming teaching methods are improving over the years) grade inflation is inevitable. So the exams need to cover off the basics, then force the top students to show off what they really know. Which isn't easy.
I'm interested in these educational reforms, as obviously both littlies will be affected. I've always liked the International Baccalaureate so to the extent that this E-Bacc is a step in that direction I have no problems with that. As I understand it there are a couple of positives to my way of thinking - a shift from mostly coursework back to put more emphasis on end of year exams (I know that some kids just find exams difficult, but I think the balance had tilted too far towards coursework), and a move away from the 'modularisation' of courses into smaller bite-size units (I'm just not a fan of deliberately trying to dumb something down so that everyone gets something and the whole is devalued). The downside of the reforms as I understand it is that it is likely that more kids will leave school at 16 without anything (altho they claim that colleges will offer courses that cater for those that want to complete their E-Bacc).

Don't ask me how though, the mother canny even brush her hair and you, well your you. How they've got this far so well is a credit to their teachers. Oh and me, I've a lot to do with it as well.

Is there any way to supress those advertisments which flash across the top of the screen?
Yes, have you got adblock plus? If you use firefox it's under 'tools' - 'add-ons'. Completely forgot about ads. Haven't seen one in ages.
Swanny, I hope you're feeling better. Your hot toddy secret recipe worked really well for me and Kenny when we both sculled the prescribed concoction on here. Like sweet tastin' rocket fuel (probably added too much honey and brandy) but it knocked us both (and our nasty viruses) for six.

I got rid if IE about a year ago. It was really problematic I thought. I got a little distressed seeing the 'bear with a nose ring & chains' ad - and even though I hate animal cruelty I couldn't handle being reminded of it constantly.
Then I saw some news article yesterday where the Germans have warned about the vulnerabilities of it and recommended people use something else. The patch they've (MS Windows) created still doesn't fix the problems apparently.

Is Mr S there to make it for you or is it better you stand over the sospan and inhale the fumes whilst gently stirring? Beware the evaporation rate as you warned me once.

Hi Guys,
Sorry to post this here but this might be of interest to a few of you.
We have an opening in our Fantasy Premiership game where you can buy/sell players, pick match day squads and game tactics.
We run in line with the real season so only just starting the season out.
The team available is London Wasps who have dipped their toe in the transfer market and have the likes of Nicholas Mas, Thierry Dusatoir, Danny Care, Morne Steyn & Luke McAllister added to the playing squad.
If you are interested have a look at our homepage and ask away with any questions you might have:

You're more than welcome Sir Johnny.
Might have to pass on your offer. Doing only 4 or 5 comps this year.
Has CF got a team? He's into that type of thing I believe.

here is my fave part from the western mail article:
Pontypridd chief executive Steve Reardon confirmed his club had rejected overtures from the Blues to stage LV Cup matches at the House of Pain.
“We met with Richard Holland and Phil Davies not long after Phil was appointed,” he said.
“It was a very positive meeting. Part of it was they offered to hold two matches at Sardis Road.
“We declined that offer on the grounds of not being given the opportunity before. Let me put that into context. We need to look at the first steps. Although we didn’t take them up on it, we haven’t ruled out staging Blues games in the future.
“We first wanted them to do things like they did at Penygraig. Possibly there could be a Blues training session at Sardis Road later in the season.
“We have grounds for a good relationship with the Blues.
“We always have Blues Academy players playing for us and we talked about using the Blues’ training facilities.
“It’s a start. Although we felt Pontypridd hosting Blues matches this season was a step too far.”
you quite seriously couldn't make this stuff up.

Hope everyone here is well and good. I won't lie to you...I'm dreading the West Wales derby this weekend. GULP!

it translates as medical joker or wildcard medical
I do like this particular translated bit though:
"Bath, who had experienced some financial difficulties and ethical (evenings too festive for some players,"
I think that's a rather tactical way of putting it!
PJ - have you guys anyone to replace him? or who can step up to fill his spot? Seems a bit sudden really, were there any rumours at all?

Re: The Hillsborough Memorial Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Liverpool
No rumours and no replacements dreamer - unless you count Ollie Devoto who came to the academy from Sherbourne last year, he's only 20 but has benched every game this season due to Donald and Heathcote both being injured.
Donald's reintroduction to the playing staff is described by the physios as "complex" and Heathcote is out until October at the earliest.
The way I read it, it was due to the salary cap, but if that's the case why pick the player who has kicked you to the first two wins of the season?
My only hope is that there is a new signing about to be announced...

Is there anyone else you could have let go/sold
(sounds horrible talking about it like this) that are worth as much though?
Tough breaks PJ
At least Devoto would have got plenty of experience last season so not quite throwing him into the deep end as badly.
On another note, both Llanelli and Scarlets u16's are in action this evening, love mid week rugby, always helps the weekend arrive more quickly I reckon

Ah right. Cheers for that. I'll be sitting on the Beeb now following the football, so will keep an eye on it all.
All packed for my festival in Scotland. Can't wait. Taken plenty of layers though. Today was certainly a lot crisper and seeing as Ullapool is pretty open (on the coast), it'll get a wee bit nippy.

10-0 Keys. They're updating twitter at least.
The festival is loopallu. Pretty Scottish dominated. Fratelli's headlining Friday (good) and Scouting For Girls on Sat (meh). There's a Glaswegian band called Kassidy that sound right up my street. Otherwise there's two new up and comers in Rachel Sermanni (whose songs sound really relaxing, so maybe not what I need) and Jake Bugg (who I haven't bothered to try listening too). The rest will be fairly local stuff. It's only a small festival, but it's usually a good laugh with my wife and our friends.

Sounds like a great little festival to me, perfect to enjoy with friends enjoy the Fratelli's, would love to see them (do agree with you on Scouting For Girls mind...)
10-7 to Keys now
11-3 to Llanelli.
Hound - aye it seems to be happening quite regularly, Llanelli played mid week last week 'n all. I always forget how busy a schedule the Welsh Prem has.
