The Stratospheric Supersonic Dew Drop Inn, Roswell, New Mexico
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to "sleepy" Roswell New Mexico, take off point for the first ever supersonic free-fall this week.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Felix Baumgartner and Chris Budgen up on the wall.

I'd put him about fourth best fullback in GB and Ireland, behind Dan Evans, Leigh Halfpenny and Ben Foden.

Sorry, was just reading a PlanetRugby article where they said he was a definite for the Lions Tour and probably a starter.
I would have thought both Kearney and Halfpenny were ahead of him.

He is a decent player but I would agree that Kearney, Halfpenny and Foden would be ahead in terms of Lions selection.

I bet the commentators will be glad when they see the additional players added for round 2 of the H Cup...

I was wumming really. Wrong time to do it, without some D4 types in yer. Kearney and 1/2P will tour and probably Foden. I also think Hook will tour, so will cover fullback too (if needs must). I don't think Brown will tour.

Re: The Stratospheric Supersonic Dew Drop Inn, Roswell, New Mexico
Haha, that's just your Dragons bias coming through. Dan Evans probably won't make the Welsh squad even, due to 1/2P, Sanjay and Byrne.

Re: The Stratospheric Supersonic Dew Drop Inn, Roswell, New Mexico
I think Liam Williams will travel before Dan Evans. And although national selection shouldn't be a factor in Lions selection, you can bet it will be.

Re: The Stratospheric Supersonic Dew Drop Inn, Roswell, New Mexico
Halfpenny is winger shunted to fullback when they found better options.
Byrne is an aging full back who has proven himself to be a cheat - diving to get players sent off and coming on as an 16th man.
Sanjay is a turk.

One eyed Turk, you mean
Byrne isn't a diver, but that 16th man thing was all the Ospreys. Back at a time when they decided rules/laws were there to be broken.

All turks are one eyed. It is known.
A question for you about those Super Amazing Seminars that you go to around the world.
In places like Afghanistan or Iraq do the locals ever chuck about a rugby ball with people like yourself.

You credit them with far too much competence to believe that was anything but a screaming howler.

Glas, with your lawyers hat on what did you think of the sentence handed down to that Irish bloke I mentioned it on pg7
Re: The Stratospheric Supersonic Dew Drop Inn, Roswell, New Mexico
Hi de hi
I rate Mike Brown as a solid full back who does the basics very well and knows when to join the line; and he does get his fair share of tries His biggest problem is that he rarely passes, and Quins do miss out on try scoring opportunities because of that.
Also, in the modern game, Brown only covers one position (OK so does Kearney) whereas players like Halfpenny, as well as covering wing (or is he a wing covering full back ), is a useful asset to have from a place kicking point of view. Brown or Kearney would be a good solid choice at full back for the dirt trackers in Australia though.

They play touch there, but I don't know if the locals are too fussed. The guts we have handling baggage with us were throwing a ball around last time I was there.

Nay bother Rev. I've seen Afghanistan RFU getting pretty active on Twitter. Just wondering was this due to British armed forces bringing the game with them.

I remember seeing an interview in the NZ media with some NZ troops talking about chatting rugby with the locals. The bloke did say he wore his Canterbury jersey off-duty over there, but made very certain he didn't pack his Crusaders one, as he didn't think the name would go down too well ...

There's progress for you.
Dubarry Park will host the first home fixture of the Connacht Eagles tomorrow evening (7.45pm) when English outfit Newcastle visit for the second round of the B&I Cup.
In Connacht’s first entry into this competition, the Eagles, coached by Nigel Carolan, will face current pool leaders Newcastle in pool four, which also boasts Cross Keys.

Yep, Keys v Newport this weekend I would be going, but I'm pushing my luck already by going to the Dragons on my anniversary (it was the wife's suggestion).

Evening Pub.
I haven't read back as I'm on the mob. I feel absolutely dreadful. I've had a full on migraine for two days now, and I've had to come to bed at teatime. It's the most comfortable way to stop my head hurting, but then that gives me pins and needles lying down. Odd. I've no idea how I've managed to work, but I did. Hope I can watch rugby tomorrow night.
Hope everything's all right here with everyone.

Yup. Away to Mogliano, but it's a Sunday game. That's unusual for Italy because Sunday is when the football is played.
We won't get to the hotel until about 22:30 on Saturday, whereas some of crew are heading out on Friday and returning on Tuesday. They will be of Peroni and Lemoncello chasers.

I'll echo Penfro's comment. I hope you get over that migraine Cari.
We're in Moggy itself, Penfro. And yes, Birra Moretti is OK, but so is the normal 'red label' Peroni. In Rome about 4 years ago there was a diner style bar across from the ground. I saw a bottled beer called Trentale, and ordered one. I was carefully checking the bottle and noticed it was bottle conditioned, but also
9% ABV!!
Having carefully decanted it into my glass I looked to check for sediment before taking a sip and noticed at least eight other Waspies gleefully slugging this brown sludge.
There were 'casualties' that day.
Let's just say I love the Euro away trips. Fantastic stuff.
