The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Colwyn Bay
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Colwyn Bay, where the Tier 2 AIs are currently taking place.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Bob Scott and Malele Kunavore above the bar.

Another thing on the Hore shot; it seemed very premeditated. Within the first sixty seconds nearly, bit like the O'Driscoll spear tackle. First opportunity to take him out of the game they take him out of the game.
And of course, no specialist second row on the bench. Worked out well for New Zealand that little piece of nastiness.
Priestland you plum.

Oh France are apparently back ahead- 16-14! 13 minutes to go, would LOVE Samoa to win that and guarantee Top 8 seeding.
Ah, now 19-14 in the final moments. Hopefully Samoa stay in the Top 8!

I heard on the Dragons site the other day that we were practising that in training, so fair play to us for executing that.

France sneaked past Samoa 22-14

Hope that means they stay in the Top 8. The key thing is Argentina lost by more than 15 and Samoa by less.

The gulf is not in how they do things (although Wales' handling could be better) but its the decision making as to when to do it. Gatland is too conservative.

To be honest I really don't think it's been an awful performance, 2nd half has been very good.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Colwyn Bay
Ok my reaction from Wales: not an awful performance, better than the last couple of weeks. We seemed to want to be behind before performing. Nice to see Cuthbert do more this match, felt Tips had good impact and Andrews wasn't done over too badly. Would like Warburton to be in the ref's ear a bit more.
My standout player was Liam Williams, really performed above how I've seen him before and was well up for the game.
If I had to change anyone I'd like to see Owens start, Priestland to be dropped if Biggar's fit, quicker ball from Phillips and felt the engine room battled well.
People think that's a fair assessment?

I think that's a fair assessment Prop. I watched most of that match through my fingers though. When Jarvis got injured and Hore did his cheap shot within the first two minutes, I knew we were doomed. At least we got two tries towards the end.
I'm watching the Lions Tour 2009 match highlights to cheer myself up now. And to see Tommy

Is that the guy who sounds like he has a mouth full of sandwich... or sock?
Commiserations Cari and all Welsh regs. I thought the second half was pretty competitive and definite glimpses of potential. Just need that extra pass and exploit the wide channels... like the Wales of old.
I reckon Australia could come undone if they play like they did against Italy today but I'm hoping they will take another good, hard, long look at themselves.

Notch - Samoa are safe in 8th. Had to go to third/fourth decimal places! Source - https://twitter.com/IRBMedia
So happy for them - second seeds in the World Cup! Wales need to beat Australia or they fall to 9th, with Argentina getting in.
That Rankings thread is brilliant!!!

Cheers Breaker. I fear a backlash from the Aussies next week.
Dave - I thought the game next week doesn't count towards the rankings. It's Wales' fourth match of the Autumn series. I thought the WRU just added it on for the money...or am I just being cynical?

I really don't know what to make of that performance earlier on today, some very nice play and all but Argentian were absolutely pathetic, they weren't interested after 5 minutes. We played well and all but how much can we judge from it? I don't know. I am ever the pessimist though!
A lot of positives though like how we actually took the ball up in the ginaline, Jackson showed Sexton how it's done last week like.

You can only play who's in front of you Thom.... never give a sucker and easy break Great performance I thought and given how poor we were against SA I won't be nitpicking.
Good second half from Wales but man its depressing how far the ABs are ahead of everyone else.
England tried to out SA, SA, for the umpteenth time and came of second best.
The NH, France excepted, really have been spanked again this Autumn.

It really is simple. New Zealand can play three or four game plans at a time, picking and choosing as appropriate. We can't hack one.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Colwyn Bay
Thom you know I'm not easily pleased... I've had people threaten to quit the site I'm so negative...
..but the last two weeks have been as good as we've played in a long time...positive heads up rugby, enthusiasm, passion... guys playing for each other and putting pride in the jersey after a depressing 12 months.
Is all right with Irish rugby? No of course not, but we've had enough shoite days over the past few seasons so I'm going to enjoy these two results and performances. The guys who have played deserve the plaudits, and yes so do the coaches.
We have to build on it now and bring more of these young guys into the side but I'll worry about that come February. The SA result is still a disappointment but the last two performances were much better than I'd expected.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Colwyn Bay
I expected to beat Fiji out the gate, anything other than 40 point win would have been poor in my opinon. To see the youngsters do it in style was great.
A shame they are all from Ulster though, it's bad enough we have those pesky Leinster lads to beat us all the time now we have ye feicers. Gilroy is Denis Hickie reincarnated I think. Can see why he played backrow at schools though. A bit tenacious and not afraid of the physical stuff and never midn the fsct that a good flanker can win you a game.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Colwyn Bay
If Argentina had tackled well there is no way he would have scored today (same for Sexton's and probably Strauss' efforts) they were really awful. He made one or two mistakes today did Gilroy but it is his first cap, Zebo had his mistakes too they will take a while to grow into international level.
Hitting low is the best way to tackle Glas, get in there fast quickly hard and low and it is very hard to offload.

Yeah Gilroy is deceptively strong. He really is class ...but come on man admit how excited you are to see that back 3 of Gilroy, Bowe and Zebo... pace, pace , pace...
It reminded me of a few years ago when BOD, Horgan and D'arcy were in their pomp and defenses used to hang back terrified of us.
The next generation is here.

Yeah, teams are going to do some more analysis now on him and it'll be interesting to see how he responds to that challenge. But still- he's just what we need in the backline right now. A bit of flair, youth and dynamism.

Defenses knew what Shane Williams and Jason Robinson could do but stopping them is another kettle of fish.
Gilroy hasn't earned the right to be mentioned with the above but when you have speed, acceleration and can step off both feet then you will take a fair bit of stopping no matter who you are playing against.

I think Zebo brought that as well Notch except the media ignored it, they hate us Cork people like.......
We have incredibly exciting back three players coming through at every province, problem will be fitting them all in. Conway, Dave Kearney, Boyle Gilroy, Allen, Gaston at LI, Nelson, Cochrane,Scholes, Luke O'Dea. It's pretty great.

His contract runs out in the summer I think, only reason we should consider keeping him is if we win the Grand Slam in style.
Great win for Ulster last night as well, I said it last week but those were the kind of game Ulster would narrowly lose a few seasons back. The depth they have now is very good, have the battle scars to win the tight ones as well. A contender for the big one.

Haha, I don't think anyone could accuse the media of ignoring Zebo! He also played well today, apart from that awful mistake dealing with that grubber near the end. Our back three are running some exceptional lines. I would like to see Zebo hang on to the 15 shirt for Wales in Febuaury at this stage but no doubt Kearney will be picked if fit. Zebo is less rounded no doubt, but the lines he picks and his pace gives us a lot more cutting edge and gives defences something more to worry about.
Talking of pacy fullbacks, Nelson got his first try for Ulster on Friday. He's always been playing in positions like 10, 12, 13, 15 all the way through because of his footballing skills but he has pace to burn as well. 15 is his best position.

Managed to add the red button in time for last weeks game and caught some of it well taken try from him, thought he was speedy but didn't realise he was that fast. Tooke it well. I'm only taking the pish with Zebo, although for a guy who has never played full back I think he did rather well, he won't start come the 6N will probably miss out on the wing spot unfortunately be good to have him for the Rabo though.
