The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Colwyn Bay
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Colwyn Bay, where the Tier 2 AIs are currently taking place.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Bob Scott and Malele Kunavore above the bar.

He had a great game tonight as did Davies and Cuthbert. Superb from those guys.

Considering the weather's so schitt and many will stay indoors (it's the sensible thing to do) and it's Saturday night - telly is rubbish. So, I'm doing something I haven't done since it happened live. I'm watching Wales v Ireland 2009. I've forgotten what a good game it was - now I'm less...emotional, I can appreciate it as a game of rugby. And didn't Ireland have a sexy team back then?!

Word order and a comma can make all the difference, it's a good strategy for tackling props though. Us hybrid players are much harder to tackle.

And Gilroy is the latest in a long line of Irish back three players who started off playing GAA.

Is he really? Now that is interesting. GAA must offer good foundation training for potential rugby backs

He didn't play GAA to as high a level as some of the other guys with that background, he played for a small club in Bangor I believe but once he went to Methody it was just rugby, rugby, rugby.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Colwyn Bay
Did he play it to a decent level Notch? I'm finding with most of the underage lads that close to all do or have played two sports. Rugby and then GAA/Hurling with some soccer thrown in as well.GAA skills are transferrable to a degree catching the high ball of course, you learn a bit about patterns of running from it and I know GAA coaches are looking at running angles used in rugby to try and improve the play. Soccer will help the vision of any young player, if they are a forward or a back. You should be able to spot and take a gap and I find the soccer players even those who are forwards are incredibly good at executing things simple plys like a 2 on 1, mightn' be linked but hey.
I actually think rugby skills are the way to beat the incredibly hated Donegal defence. They more or less sit back and soak up pressure, with ridiculous amounts of defenders.
I think there are two ways to counteract it, one is incredibly accurate long kick passing (most GAA palyers are actually pretty poor at this), the other is pretty simple, run at them draw the defender and give. You need support runners constantly moving but it could work in my opinon, you won't see Cork do it though.

It probably also shows how integration is working in NI. There seems to be more and more people participating in GAA codes and rugby, in the past it was kind of one or the other. That's as big a deal in my opinon and it's great to see in my opinion. More of it.

My only regret from the Dublin trip was watching the football in a pub.

He was stopped round 9 by a body shot prop. Did his best but the timing was gone and ran out of steam after about 4-5 rounds. Could of hung on and won but think he should call it a day now.All the best Ricky

Go back to sleep mate....
England doing well. Centuries to Cook and KP, they now trail by only 89 runs.
Australia declared 267/8 with a 429 run lead. Smith and Amla out, 40/2 with 4 sessions to go.

Big smiles all around at ChezP after the match yesterday. Just loved having something to smile about from the boys in green 2 weeks in a row even though the first one doesn't count in most folks view. I think the young bucks having a great run against Fiji just set the tone for the way the others played yesterday.

Still too many Ulster players in there for my liking
It was a great game yesterday and to score 7 tries against Argentina is no mean feat. I thought Sexton looked very ordinary in the first 10 but when he got going he played excellently. Young Gilroy looked so at home at this level as well. Even D'Arcy had a decent game.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Colwyn Bay
I just loved that they seemed to be enjoying it so much. I would actually taken a one point win and that style and attitude.
Shame a few more of the younguns didn't get a chance really. How hard would it have been to stick a couple more youngsters on the bench instead of...well, you know. Easy to say in hindsight but what a missed opportunity to get a bit of experience for some of the pups which could prove vital down the road.
The selection policy still baffles the living day lights out of me but at least the lads were smiling.
And sure, there were too many Ulstermen on the pitch for some even in the EOS days when DH was allowed to carry on the water!

Oh no Glas.
Not us. Nor the folks we were out with actually. Although, now I come to think about it one of the girls did live quite near Cherry Valley when she was at school. Not near enough to count though.
What did you think of your lot yesterday? Certainly not the hiding some were predicting, no?

Are you planning on using the less known but still valid O'PJ after yesterday?
After all, sure the best Irish players are from your adopted Ulster anyway!

The Ireland game was compelling if one sided. Rather than vindicating Kidney's selections though, it undermines them. Will he have a Hansen like Damascene conversion after being forced to pick Shane Williams in 2003? Time will tell. I think he's a dead man walking.

Morning pub.
Congrats on the win Biltong. We had quite a few Bok fans in the pub for the game.
Better news for England in the cricket. India are 117 for 7 with a lead of just 31. Minted for Monty (Panesar) who has taken 5 wickets in both innings
Time to get brunch on the go....

Indeed, Zebre were very unlucky last week not to beat us and their attacking play was very good.

Yep he resigned this morning. Scott Johnson will be happy. He'll probably be coach in the interim. There's talk of Gregor Townsend having the job?
Prop - no flooding near you? Just watching the news now, and there's been a lot of flooding all over the place last night. Wales seems to have escaped the worst of it.
