Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The pub has made its way to Dubai, host city for the upcoming round of the IRB Rugby World 7s.

Visitors are reminded to dress sensibly and carry their working-'holiday' permit with them at all times and if possible; engage in their sinful drinking habits within the smoky confines of the underground "English Pub". We have more big screens than you could ever dream of...

If you need to go for a swim at the beach - application forms for towels and umbrellas are available at the bar.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Ricky Ponting, Bradley Davies, Andrew Hore and Craig Gilroy above the bar.

My how you've grown some nice fleece over the years....

I ordered a couple of CDs recently and the Tuesday before last, they arrived in the post. Lola must have listened to one of them and decided she didn't like it, so she chewed it up to spare me from listening to it when I got home. Such a considerate dog!

The kids aren't much better on the glasses front. The last pair of new spec that came into this house lasted a whole day before a game of "head the ball" happened.

Not what you'd think. The youngest very cleverly took off her lovely new specs so they wouldn't get damaged while she was playing.

And, promptly stood on them!

Breaker, it was a case of history repeating itself. Of the two CDs, the Bix Beiderbecke one met an early end and the Louis Armstrong one survived.

I have a minor pain to contend with over the next few days. The chip doslodged from my (only) cashpoint card into a cash machine and doesn't work. I had the long forgotten experience of drawing cash over the bank counter yesterday.

The replacement card is due on Monday. I have to travel to Exeter for work on Monday, and don't get back until Tuesday evening. With a weekend to get through as well, I will need to consider very carefully how much I withdraw on Friday.

I prefer to pay in cash for things generally, Hound. It seems less 'virtual' than paying by card.

Ugh, I can't stand this new version of 'The Power of Love'. I'm not too keen on the original, but at least Holly Johnson gave it some welly.

Lucky, it's more not being able to draw cash from any cashpoint and having to queue up behind people depositing shop takings.

Ah, I get you. I have bad luck whenever I need to post something for work, there's always someone ahead of me who ends up taking an age.

Is that every day Hound or mainly on Monday... 10-11am is worst, no?

If I have to go to the bank - I prefer going early afternoon just after lunch when the shopkeepers have all left and the tellers can sometimes be found twiddling their thumbs.

I find the opposite for Car registration.
It's best to get in there early morning as the doors first open (9:30am here ?? and before the students awake) and grab a ticket!

Sorry about the delay in replying. My two most convenient bank branches are in high streets comprising mainly privately owned shops. There always seems to be loads of shopkeepers banking money.

Glas - I know what you're saying, but I don't spend more than I earn. Anything I want is paid for by money I have put aside for it. I feel sorry for people who struggle though.

More 'mutt' news. Although I'm on leave I have to go into work tomorrow to find out about the severance deal.

I'm not a royalist as you know, but neither am I heartless. I am happy for anybody who has a bun in the oven, but I find the hysteria around the 'Royal Baby' faintly disturbing. Medical science and midwifery is great, but I am old fashioned when it comes to keeping excitement in check until any baby is born.
