Good defensively but not a defensive player. He's an RL convert so quick, strong, direct with a decent offload. A good all round 13 with potential for more.
Without being nasty he's one of these players that's totally forgettable. Does his job thoroughly but quietly and doesn't steal much headline space from the other players around him. In fact i'm struggling to remember any contributions from him, which is odd as I know he's rated by a lot of pundits and fans.

In his defence and as a fellow Quins fan, a bit like Lowe in some respects then

He is rather a lot like Lowe. I'd say he offers a bit more ball in hand though. Sarries rend to play by the numbers so maybe we'll see a bit more flair in these two Saxons games.

Re: England Injury Update
I wouldnt say tomkins was quick, there are plenty of quicker centres. his game is more about drawing the man and getting his hands free in contact for the offload.
good guy to play outside of, completely diffrent option to tuilagi anyway.

Looking at that injury list,England shouldn't be hurt to much.
With the overseas stars out injured it's a great chance for Lancaster to blood some young home grown talent.

Trying to drag this back on topic:
While he was very unlikely to feature in the 6Ns, Tom Croft was still in the EPS. Sadly his comeback took a turn for the worse yesterday when he was removed after only 10 minutes against Wasps following "a bang on the back". No idea how serious this is, but worrying.
I also note that Sarries match was posponed, so Alex Goode was unable to demonstrate a return to fitness following a month out with his shoulder injury.

It's an ankle injury and he's currently 50/50 for the Scotland game. If he's 50/50 for that, I say he should be fine for the other 4 games as long as he doesn't have any setbacks.

Oh in light of Wuss getting smashed we're back to this? Okay. Botha, Barritt, Big Les, Hape, Flutey, Stevens, Hartley, Vunipola, Vulipola, Waldrom. Yes please I would love some CHIPS with my England POACHED XV . BTW I still don't understand why you english are so keen to keep pencilling in North into these spats, do some research. And Kohn, who is just in the training squad thus far...

Re: England Injury Update
Ignore the troll people! This thread isn't about nationality or any of that Poopie!
Crofts injury is reported to be fairly minor and he should be fine for next weekend I believe, still don't expect to see him in the 6N's though, he should get plenty of time on the summer tour.
Manu's injury again shouldn't be too bad, I guess it's more just making sure he doesn't make it worse then anything else.

And which troll? You need to be more specific. Or does being English and a troll automatically not make you a troll? Keen to dish it out as always but cry when it comes back your way. Pathetic bunch of people.
Hope Croft isn't too bad though. He's had a tough time with the injuries throughout his career.

And Croft hasnt had a tough time with injuries until now - but this time it was almost as bad as could be and he's lucky to be walking let alone playing rugby again.

Re: England Injury Update
2010 and he's had plenty more - really unlucky with injuries
England's Tom Croft suffers Six Nations injury blow
Croft has injured the medial ligament in his left knee
England flanker Tom Croft will miss at least the first two games of the Six Nations after injuring his left knee for the second time this season.
The blind-side suffered medial knee ligament damage in Leicester's Heineken Cup win over Viadana on Saturday.
He will miss England's games against Wales and Italy.
The Rugby Football Union say he has started his rehabilitation programme with a view to returning to action in five to six weeks.

I've not seen enough of Tompkins to have a strong view yet, but I do think people (even regular Quins-watchers) underestimate what Lowe does ball in hand, in part because he does it with so little fuss. IIRC, he's one of the fastest players in the Quins senior squad, but his real strength is his choice of line and the timing of his runs. There are very few EQPs who are better at turning a half gap into a break. For an OC, he has a very high scoring rate, too. A couple of seasons ago he was one if the top 3 try scorers in the AP in any position.
The big question mark over Lowe for me is whether he's big enough to play OC at international level. His defensive positioning and work rate are good, but not sure how he'd cope with a modern international backline running at him.

On Lowe - he's the same size as O'Driscoll. That's not to say he'd have anything like the same impact, but his defensive position and technique are both good enough to make up for not being Tuilagi shaped.

Re: England Injury Update
Hi is big though, even more handily he seems to have a pretty lowe centre of gravity too (i'll get my coat).
It is pretty frustrating that he's had three good seasons and only just started to be in and around the Saxons while Joseph can have a few months of playing outstandingly on the wing and is rushed straight in to the EPS.

Anything positive to contribute to the thread?
I'm just hoping we don't bring in any of the returning playing in or the Italy game, as we can't afford to dismiss them and change the team just to give them a game.
We need to treat every game as a battle and put our strongest out every game!

Nathan crying again and telling the mods to ban people. Not unheard of. Perhaps a 'mod' should have a word with this baby.
KK, I did wish Croft well. I think he's a good player. But, I also think you're covered in the back-row (but that's with me not knowing if Wood is available?). Tuilagi would be a loss. Say he misses the 6 Nations do you think you have a good player to step in?

I give that stat because i said earlier that the current injuries will give some home grown players a chance, every cloud has a silver lining etc..
But then i was told that England don't need overseas players.
Hence my FACT was delivered in the number 40.
Thats all, just backing up what i said.
