Cleveland are reportedly eyeing up Fred Davis. I hope not. I'm really hoping we can find a way to re-sign him. Couldn't compete with Cleveland though in an auction. I imagine Norv Turner would love to have a TE like him to work with.

So this Mallett-to-Browns story won't go away. Asked Lombardi abt it straight up yest. He laughed. If it happens, don't think till April
The Redskins old TE coach is in Cleveland now too so potentially more reasons for Davis to join us.

Fred Davis is interesting. Plenty of potential but career underachiever like Cook up to now

If Ryan Mallett ends up in Cleveland with some draft picks in New England as a result, Michael Lombardi should be fired on the spot

Donnie Avery signing with KC.
TBH Olly we only have 6 picks and no second rounder, I'll be amazed by their stupidity if they're willing to give them up for Mallet.

Yeah I would be too Derby. I don't think Mallett is any good personally, Hoyer would be a better pickup if you're looking for a QB

Yeah, it's been a mixture of bad luck and stupidity with him. He was drafted by the wrong team basically. He was never going to see much playing time while Chris Cooley was at the peak of his powers. Didn't help that Jim Zorn was his first HC either. Then when he finally got his career going he got caught smoking dope and followed that up last season by freakishly snapping his Achilles. When he's on the field though, he's a quick TE with good hands that causes defenses match up problems. Would be a good pick up for Cleveland. He's from that area so would be a homecoming for him.

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread part 2
Good luck to whoever signs Landry. I initially loved him when he was a Redskin but got tired in the end of all the ill-timed personal fouls, blown coverages and just not being able to depend on him staying healthy.
Fearsome hitter though and excellent run stuffer. Just don't put him in coverage though and make sure you sign another Safety to step in when he gets injured and insists on healing himself with mumbo jumbo alternative therapies!

Breaking News Jake Long passes physical and agrees to a deal with the Rams. Worked hard to break this give credit
@TKras
I can confirm @RCummingsTBO's report: #Bucs are indeed negotiating with safety Dashon Goldson. Hope to close in on an agreement soon

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread part 2
Most stupid story I've seen today is the Redskins supposedly being in the mix for Reggie Bush. Two problems:-
1. We can't afford anyone, let alone him
2. Alfred Morris
It'd be weird if his agent had peddled that rumour cos no-one would be scared about being competing with us for an FA this year. If anything it could drive down the money a guy gets if we're among the bidders! Dunno who makes this stuff up. Bored journalists I guess.
He's off to Detroit anyway.

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread part 2
Tampa having Barron and Goldson will be interesting. Barron is talented but he is a poor man's Goldson right now so not sure how they wil gel. Goldson is obviously the hardest hitting safety in the NFL but Barron can hit himself so people will think twice about going over the middle. Goldson is also a ballhawk but not sure the two of them are blessed when it comes to coverage.

Don't really get that. Their run D was good, better guys than Goldson in the pass game. Bucs seem to be becoming the new Redskins

That will allow Barron to work more in the box. Goldson really isn't that bad in coverage at all.

Better than Whitner sure, but Whitner is just a liability. Quin would've made more sense to sure up the pass D.

Goldson isn't a coverage safety but he is above average in that area. But still like I said, Barron is a poor man's Goldson, and I'm not sure how well they will mesh. I like both players but not sure this is a fit. If they pay him 7 or 8m a year I will lol

I still think hes best utilised as an enforcer on the back end, which with 6 all pros in front of him is great. Just not sure he was the best guy to help that awful pass D. Gonna need 2 v.good coverage guys now

How can you say that about Barron? He's been im the league one year and was constantly left exposed by terrible corners.

I think he will play NT. 49ers don't play rgid 3-4 anyway, defense is much more versatile than given credit for. Plus he is elite run stopper and that is 49ers identity. We also have best d-line coach in NFL so I'm sure he'll help a supposed 'bust'. I expect Dorsey to blossom whether he is a starter or not. Plus 49ers add another former top ten pick!
